No Go, Joe

Phew. I've read (and come to agree) with several people's opinions on the probable lack of difference between promoting a few minor leaguers and signing Weathers, Borowski and Co., and the thought of us almost spending serious cash for several years on Borowski and watching him explode before our eyes absolutely terrifies me. God bless you, Phillies doctors. Hopefully this incident reminds Gillick how truly iffy signing "legitimate" bullpen help can be.

Borowski's full-season ERAs
2.63
8.02
4.47
3.75
He made $327,000 in 2006.
This is like some mythological curse, that we have to acquire basically the same pitcher over and over again--Cormier, Wiliams, R. Hernandez, Worrell, Rhodes--and get boned on it every single time. How long, Base-ba'al? How frakkin' long?
Don't overpay for last year's Joe Borowski: go dumpster-diving and figure out who's going to be next year's Joe Borowski.

ok, maybe no joe
It's just so frustrating, and while everyone lambasted Ed Wade (rightfully so) for these types of moves, Gillick seems to still be getting the benefit of the doubt, which is insane. Multi-year deals to relievers over 35 is just not smart.

Ken Mandel
"Adding Borowski would have solved the Phillies' other glaring need and made for a nice dual announcement by the team."
Are you kidding me?
Sometimes I really do think I know better.
