NLDS roster

Per Comcast SportsNet, here it is:

Pitchers
Antonio Alfonseca; Clay Condrey; Tom Gordon; Cole Hamels; Kyle Kendrick; Kyle Lohse; Jose Mesa; Jamie Moyer; Brett Myers; J.C. Romero

Catchers
Rod Barajas; Chris Coste; Carlos Ruiz

Infielders
Greg Dobbs; Wes Helms; Ryan Howard; Tadahito Iguchi; Abraham Nunez; Jimmy Rollins; Chase Utley

Outfielders
Michael Bourn; Pat Burrell; Aaron Rowand; Shane Victorino; Jayson Werth

I'd probably prefer Geary over Alfonseca, although, for all the bludgeonings he's taken lately, Alf does keep the ball in the yard, which can't hurt at Coors. I suspect Geary's in if they didn't need Barajas..........

Re: NLDS roster
If Alfonseca or Mesa see the light of day, I'll be absolutely furious.

Oh
Per ESPN, Geary has an elbow injury, though he might be available for the NLCS. I think I'll second David anyway. ;-)

Re: NLDS roster
Just noticed - no Eaton, which is great news.

Re: NLDS roster
ESPN had it running on their crawl that Eaton was left off the roster... I found that interesting.

I must say that it's a no brainer.

Re: NLDS roster
Well, Geary and Madson hopefully would replace Mesa and Alfonseca if we get past Colorado. Having those two guys on the roster doesn't make me happy--I would have preferred Davis and Castro, for strikeout and Helton situations respectively--but hopefully it won't matter.

The key question is how they plan to use Lohse.

Re: NLDS roster
I read, I think in the Inky, that Lohse will be an option for relief in games 1 and 2. If he isn't used, they'll probably use him in game 3. Otherwise, it'll be Moyer in game 3 and who knows in game 4.

Re: NLDS roster
With Geary being questionable, I'm okay with Alf, but Mesa has no business being on the roster. He shouldn't get any chance to pitch at all under any circumstance, so I'd just as soon carry an extra hitter even.  But I would have probably gone with Castro over Mesa.

Hopefully, we get through and leave Mesa and Alf off next round.  I agree with the concensus there.

But I will say that the decision to remove Eaton is fantastic.  Having Mesa and Alf on the roster is better than Eaton and I was afraid we'd see that alternative -- now we know that we won't see some silly pitch-Lohse-in-relief-then-have-Eaton-start move.  It's good to know the Phillies have the guts to do this despite his contract.
