Type A and Type B Free Agents
So with the new rules, Type A's get their departing team a 1st and supplemental 1st, and Type B's get just the supplemental.
The Phils have 2 A's (Rowand and Iguchi) and a B (Garcia).
The Phils could potentially have 6 picks in the first + supplemental first rounds.
What are the odds that all three are offered arbitration?
Rowand, certainly. I'd also say certainly yes for Iguchi, because I don't think he'd accept. How about Garcia?

Re: Type A and Type B Free Agents
per cot's:
Tadahito Iguchi 2b
2 years/$4.95M (2005-06), plus $3.25M 2007 club option
* acquired in trade (from Chicago White Sox) 7/27/07
* signed as a free agent from Japan 1/05
* 05:$2.3M, 06:$2.4M, 07:$3.25M club option ($0.25M buyout)
* club exercised $3.25M 2007 club option 10/06
* contract includes clause requiring club to sign Iguchi to an extension by sometime in 2007, or release him (effectively granting Iguchi free agency after three years of ML service)
* agent: Richard Moss
* ML service: 2.000
Re: Type A and Type B Free Agents
So essentially, this post is meaningless. That's a bad job by me.
Re: Type A and Type B Free Agents
it's also probably one of the reasons we were able to get Iguchi for so little from the White Sox...
Re: Type A and Type B Free Agents
This in turn makes it more palatable to totally empty the farm (Carrasco, Cardenas, Carpenter, whoever) for a last piece, because the extra picks could facilitate a quick reloading of the system.
