Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Separated At Birth?

Freddy Garcia injured by an equipment cart while patrolling the outfield in batting practice; Vince Coleman trapped by the electronically-operated tarp cylinder while hanging out on the field before game 3 of the 1985 playoffs.

Ouch.  For Garcia, for the Phillies, and for the phans.  An almost unbearable season continues....

Re: Separated At Birth?
Man, how did I never hear about that Coleman thing before? That's awesome.

Re: Separated At Birth?
Coleman's injury was (I think) reason #5 about why you can't blame Don Denkinger for the Cardinals losing the '85 World Series.

Denkinger was also the plate umpire for the famous Dickie Noles knockdown of George Brett in 1980.

I was wondering when Gavin Floyd, er, Freddie Garcia (notice how their initials are reversed?) was going to go down.

Re: Separated At Birth?
Yeah, but did Garcia throw a firecracker at fans as he was being carted off the field?

Re: Separated At Birth?
"Almost unbearable"?? The team is 14-18 and once they figure out where the right outfielders and relievers line up, stack up well against anybody in the division...let's not write off anyone (least of all Freddy after, what, 4 starts? pretty small sample size if you ask me...) just yet, shall we?

Re: Separated At Birth?
I agree about Garcia. He looked much better last night. One thing that was evident was how quickly he worked compared to his usual Trachsel-like pace. I don't know if Dubee finally convinced him to stop wandering around the mound after each pitch or if his bruised shin prompted him to return to the dug out asap, but it clearly helped. He took advantage of an impatient lineup to throw 70 pitches in 6 innings and was only removed due to a need for a pinch hitter. One start is not enough to declare that he has turned things around, but he did make progress last night.

Re: Separated At Birth?
I noticed his changeup/split was much more of a weapon last night, moreso than his first few starts. He still looked lethargic last night, maybe he was hurting, but it's a step in the right direction I suppose.
