Bourn, Victorino both to DL

Victorino has a small tear in his right calf, Bourn a low ankle sprain. According to Zolecki, Shane should be ready to go by the time he's eligible to come off the DL, but Bourn might take longer.

Outfielders Chris Roberson and Jayson Werth have been recalled.

We're screwed.

And one more move
Reliever Clay Condrey was waived to open a roster spot for Kyle Lohse, who will make his Phillies debut Thursday at Wrigley.

Re: Bourn, Victorino both to DL
I'm actually feeling a little bit relieved, considering how much worse the news could have been.

Re: Bourn, Victorino both to DL
And Werth activated. I really don't get this team. People reporting that Werth's rehab not going well, he says first hand that his wrist is sore, he doesn't play every day rehabbing, now he's being activated.

Strange times right now.

Yeah, that would have been criminal.

One former Phillie is making history...
Gavin Floyd became a part of Yankees history tonight when he allowed 3 of their team record-tying 8 home runs in a 16-3 blowout of the White Sox. In total he allowed 5 runs on 6 hits in only 3 innings of relief work. His ERA is now above 10.

Re: One former Phillie is making history...
as bad as gavin floyd is, and he is bad, if we had traded him straight up for freddy garcia, we STILL would have gotten ripped off, just based on the money.

it boggles the mind.

Re: Bourn, Victorino both to DL
Should've traded Bourn for pitching when we still could have...can someone PLEASE tell me why we need both Bourn and Roberson in the organization?

Re: Bourn, Victorino both to DL
I can see the argument for dealing Bourn for pitching, but Roberson is not the same player Bourn is. Yes, they're both speedy guys with little power, but Bourn is 3 years younger, has better on-base ability and is a far more efficient base-stealer.

Wasn't Houston
interested in Bourn, who's from there?  I wonder if Wheeler for Bourn was ever proposed.  Bourn has to be more desirable than Ty Wiggington.

Re: Wasn't Houston
That wouldn't have been a good trade for the Phillies. Bourn may or may not be an everyday player on a good team, but even as a fourth OF he's valuable--especially given that he'll be cheap for a few years yet.

Wheeler is a decent middle reliever--but so was every other middle reliever we traded for over the last ten years. Most of them weren't worth anything, much less a useful piece like Bourn.

Re: Bourn, Victorino both to DL
Gack. That was such a winnable game.

Eaton drives me crazy. I think he still has pretty decent stuff. He gets hit when he gets behind in the count. And he gets behind in the count when he loses focus because of some small thing going wrong. That's why you get games like yesterday, with a lights-out second, third, and fourth inning bookended by a bad first and a bad sixth. Dude needs to see a sports psychiatrist more than a pitching coach.
