The best series... ever ?

Having just recovered from todays unbelivable victory, i thought to myself that the series just witnessed could've been the one of the best in recent memory. One walk off 10th inning bomb by the M.V.P, a game ending interference call in a one run game, and the most enthralling, heart stopping victory i for one have ever seen, 10-11 having surrendered a five run lead, blown an 8th inning 3 run lead, only to come back and win on a single by the team leader who's playing in his come-back series. And all against our main rivals, the hated Mets, and against one of Philadelphia's most hated pro-athletes, Billy 'Blown Save' Wagner. Just seeing Pat the Bat jumping for joy when Iguchi slid home at the end sent shivers down my spine. Thoughts ?

Poll
From here on in the Phillies...
  • Battle bravely but come up short and miss the post season
  • Tank completely and end up 3rd in the division and well out of both the division and wild-card races
  • Go from strength to strength, and win the division over the Mets
  • Perform well and clinch the wild-card, but don't catch New York, who also finish with a surge

Re: The best series... ever ?
It's the best I can remember. Not only for the miraculous performance from the pitching staff, the parade of big hits in big spots and the triumphant return of Utley, but also for how every single break seemed to go the Phillies' way. They're the kind of things that always seemed to happen for the Braves, but never, ever for our Phils.

Rowand's 40 foot dribbler to tie the 2nd game.
Marlon Anderson's boneheaded interference to save the 3rd.
Consecutive RBI bloop singles from Ruiz and Victorino to take the lead yesterday.
The throw hitting Ruiz on his triple when he was almost definitely out at third (OK, he didn't end up scoring, but you get the point).
Werth starting the rally in the 9th with yet another softly hit floater.

And on the other side, it seemed like half of the Mets' hard-hit balls ended up in someone's glove, whether it was leaping catches at the wall or diving stops on the third-base line. Of course, credit is due to the Phils for playing great in the field, but the contrast was striking. Add in the fact that the Mets were determined to make so many outs on the basepaths, that the pitching showed up for 3 games, that Jayson Werth stole second and third in the 9th inning... this was truly a charmed series.

And it really couldn't have ended sweeter. The 8th inning was one of the most excruciating bullpen meltdowns I have ever witnessed, and I'm amazed that they were able to come back from it. I really hope this team makes the playoffs, because if they don't, we'll probably all forget how much fun they are to watch, and how much they've had to overcome to even remain competitive into September.

"Jayson Werth stole second and third in the 9th inning"

over my countless rewatchings of the ninth, one of my favorite moments is when Werth stands at first and the NY announcers describe him as "not much of a basestealer." not that they were wrong, but oh that sweet sweet irony.

I love the smirk on his face after he stole third and realized again that there wasn't even a throw.
