Happy Hangover Ha-Ha Thread: NLCS Game Two, Dodgers at Phillies
Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies, Oct 10, 2008 4:35 PM EDT
Hot on the heels of last night's thrilling come-from-behind victory over Derek Lowe and the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Phillies attempt to go ahead 2-0 in the series before the ink has even dried on the stories of Pat Burrell and Chase Utley's 6th inning heroics late last night.
Last night the Phillies defeated a grizzled playoff veteran. Today, they take on talented youth in the form of Chad Billingsley. The Phillies counter with Brett Myers, whose Game Two NLDS performance did a good deal to calm the nerves of fans throughout the Delaware Valley, although we'd all be lying if we said we were COMPLETELY confident in Brett's ability to stave off a meltdown...
Hopefully Ryan Howard can get it going today. All of the top six hitters in the Phillies lineup have at least one home run this postseason, save for Howard (Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Burrell, Werth).

Cholly’s mother died this morning according to the AP. This is pretty sad, and comes at a really bad time for him, obviously. He has made the decision to coach today’s game though.
Hopefully the players can win one for the old man.
I saw the news about Manuel’s mother just now, indeed very sad…seems like they were very close and it is hard to lose a parent at any age. I am glad he has decided to coach today, we will be proud to have to have him out there and hopefully it will help him to be around all the guys. FuquaManuel is right, let’s win it for Cholly!

Hey guys
I’m from South Africa, and I’m a huge Eagles fan. I’ve always found baseball to be boring, but I don’t know everything about the game either. However, I have started to take a lot of notice of late, and I would love it if the Phils could bring that WS Championship to Philly! Anyways, you’ve got my full support! Go Phils!
welcome! Lots of seats available over the wheel wells :)

Dobbs is in
Greg Dobbs is in the lineup today, batting seventh. Same lineup for the Phils as last night otherwise.
Bit surprised Coste isn’t playing today—day game after a night game, and he’s caught Myers a lot this year. I guess he really is in the doghouse, and/or they’re really down on his defense.
Ruiz called a good game for Brett in the Milwaukee series—let’s hope for more of same!
they’re note even using Coste as a pinch hitter so it can’t just be his defense, right? has anyone heard anything about why cc is in the dog house?

different outcome
First of all I would like to pass along my sympathies to Charlie Manual and his Family…
Now on to Baseball…
This could either fire up your team or make them depressed…I was expecting a split in Philly and this could ruin my plans
Good game last night…Game could have gone either way…looking for a different outcome tonight…Go Dodgers
Manny called Myers like the best pitcher in the league when they were here last.
For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?
Monday, August 25
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Brett Myers was heading to the dugout after retiring Manny Ramirez in a crucial spot when the slugger turned and said something to the pitcher.
Was Manny stirring things up again? No, just offering praise.
“He’s one of the best pitchers in the league,” Ramirez said. “That guy is nasty.”
K’s Manny Hooray!

Holy crap.
At the risk of having this comment come back to reveal me as a total idiot, Brett’s stuff is close to too good right now. Fastball at 94, wicked break on the curve…
he looks dialed in ...
good sign hopefully he doesn’t get burnt out … and PLEASE give him some run support.

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
I was getting an annoying phone call when Shane hit that—need to see it again.
This was a weird call—it was from a charity, and I kept saying I’d donate online, but the guy really wanted to do it over the phone, with a credit or debit card number. Eventually I hung up on him.
Can’t tell if they’re pitching around Utley or he’s just being as selective as Howard isn’t.
Cause someone is going to say it – we have to save up runs for later in the series

Okay, he didn’t get himself out there.
I have trouble imagining we can “wreck” their bullpen, given the travel day tomorrow, but this is nice anyway—at the least, we get a look at everyone out there in a relatively low-leverage situation.
Can the Dogers really still be considering Lowe on short rest after that performance last night? Why isn’t Maddux and option for them?

One can hope… though, who knows, maybe they’d do better with a second shot at him, or he’d get the willies actually starting a game and be wild. The one game I got to in Philly this year was him against Hamels on a Saturday afternoon, and he wasn’t very good—you saw the talent, but the command wasn’t there yet.
ok, but I’d consider starting him at home.

pitching wise, it was deep-breath Kendrickesque. bottom line is that he left with a 3-run lead after 5. And thank goodness we have a tight bullpen. If he had done nothing at the plate you would have wondered—but then again, without his 3 rbi he would have left with a tie game. And the 3-run bomb to Ramirez shouldn’t have happened if Chooch catches it or gets a better bounce.
