Join Me In L.A. - NLCS Game Three, Phillies at Dodgers
Philadelphia Phillies at Los Angeles Dodgers, Oct 12, 2008 8:22 PM EDT
Unfortunately this is the second time this season that I've used this Warren Zevon song as the title to a game thread, but I think the appropriateness, brevity and clarity far outweighs the implications of being a redundant jerk.
After two games in Philadelphia where virtually everything went right for the Phillies, the Fightin's take a 2-0 series lead to the Belly of the SoCal Beast, where the Phillies went 0-4 this season and suffered a couple crushing late-inning defeats.
Jamie Moyer goes for the Phillies tonight, where the deep dimensions of Dodgers Stadium should help him with his fly ball tendencies. Hiroki Kuroda, who absolutely owned the Phillies back in August, goes for the Dodgers. Hopefully Moyer does a little better tonight than he did last week, and the Phillies can put a strangehold on the Dodgers and this series with a 3-0 lead.
Play Ball, folks.

Eagles pulled it out ... now let's get a W from the Phils
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
I hate FOX – that introduction was offensive and insulting to Philadephia.

Devito might have been wasted.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
Probably is most of the time – i mean why the hell else would he be on that show?
I mean I know FOX wants them to win and all – but jesus christmas

When one of the people basically says ‘who cares i’m a dodger fan’?

It’s irritating self promotion – does this mean that the cast of fringe will introduce the red sox in the world series?

yeah that was pretty messed up ... I mean at least fake it you're an actor.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
Just turn it to the food network, watch the pretty cakes

The key for LA is to remember a game from August 30th not against the phillies?
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:25 PM EDT reply actions
haha
yeah threw me for a loop too
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
Yeah, you’ll get mad at me for asking this question – but in 6 games in the playoffs, have the phils gotten an opposing team 1-2-3 in the first inning?
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:28 PM EDT reply actions
Cool – Chad Billingsley will be cheap in the off season
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:28 PM EDT reply actions
Serioulsy – why the HELL is retaliation a required part of baseball?
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:29 PM EDT reply actions
agreed
maybe Billingsley feels the same way … that throwing 95 mph heater at someone on purpose is not exactly the best way to retaliate … winning IMO is.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
I sense clubhouse problems with BIllingsley – he threw he catcher under the bus as well didn’t he?
Maybe the dodgers should stop making excuses
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Oh I’m sure…the umps got it wrong, blatantly, and FOX heads won’t notice cause it went the Dodgers way
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions
So, the announcers want us to lose, the umps want us to lose, and the people brought in to read our lineups want us to lose…These asshats may trick me into rooting for the dodgers.
Come on – remember what Randy Newman said about how you should feel about Los Angeles

here comes the Manny love fest.

But like I asked earlier – haven’t we been crappy in almost every first inning?

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
Look at it this way – did anyone really believe the phils were going to win 4-0 – even after the 2-0 start?
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:50 PM EDT reply actions
No way, in fact, I had a strong feeling this would happen to Moyer. Really didn’t expect to beat Kuroda even if Moyer was sharp.
I just want 1 of 3 in LA.
I think 1 of 3 will get done, I believe 2 of 3 can get done but fat joe has to perform just as well as he did in Milwaukee…if the dodgers really want to bring lowe back on short rest, I think the advantage is strongly phils if you go by ‘last playoff appearance’ of starting pitcher.
This game isn’t entirely over yet either
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions
Not yet to me – give me a couple more good at bats after this one and then we can talk :)

Only 4 runs. We can still do this. It would be a coup, but we can do it. I have seen stranger things, I swear.
Requires a herculean effort from the bullpen probably…

Oh Just PUll Moyer already – this is embarassing
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:03 PM EDT reply actions
The worst part is that I can see all the headlines and talking heads tomorrow about how the Dodgers have ‘taken control’ of this series
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:04 PM EDT reply actions
This is thinking way, way far ahead, but if this goes to a Game 7, there’s no way they can send Moyer out there, right? He just doesn’t have it.
They should use Happ. At least he gives you the chance to make this competitive. Condrey is just a human white flag.
For the same reasons Torre is hesitant to use Kershaw I expect Cholly is afraid of Happ
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Couldn’t agree more. Isn’t this why Happ is on the goddamn roster? At least he’s capable of throwing 3 shutdown innings… Condrey is a 3.0 IP, 2 ER line waiting to happen.
happ is warming. i bet we see him tonight.

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions
I guess it is to much to ask to have the Eagles and the Phils win on the same day.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
Was thinking the same thing.
But hey, the Eagles engineered a good comeback today… maybe the Phils can do the same?</wishful thinking mode>If they were also playing the team from San Francisco, they probably could
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions
just throwing this out there.. wouldn’t it be better to throw hamels tomorrow on short rest, blanton game 5 on full rest, myers game 6 full rest, and hamels on full rest game 7?
They don’t short-rest Hamels. They just don’t.
You can take issue with this, but I think it’s probably best just to keep him in his comfort zone.
I wouldn’t short rest him either – if it was game 7 – or they were down 3 -1 maybe – but it’s a bad idea even if they are ‘only’ up 2-1
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Do these idiot dodger fans REALLY believe they are throwing at the dodgers on purpose?
Besides, the best way to pitch manny is inside
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:11 PM EDT reply actions
dodgers fans are only dimly aware of the fact that there is a baseball game going on
by Putsy Caballero. on Oct 12, 2008 9:12 PM EDT up reply actions
All this talk about retaliating. My god, shut your face Joe Buck. No one is going to do anything to the Phillies because the Dodgers know that Rudy Seanez will come running in from the bullpen and fuck all their shit up.
The Way Madsons been throwing, I doubt they want to risk his wrath either

Jesus Buck get off of this.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
Buck Martinez is old school he plays the game the right way.
Stephen A Smith said something asinine about wanitng to win ‘the right way’ on ESPN2 last week, made me have larry brown ire flash backs – it was idiotic

He pulled Condrey?
That seems like a waste of resources

They are gonna spend the whole night talking about buzzing the Phillies hitters. This is utterly inane.
seriously ...

no
thats why he always has that translator with him.
Matt Kemp for president.
Adrian Wilson for vice.
That’s what I thought – so he had no idea what victirino was saying

he probably understood the pointing to the ribs and the head.

this is ridiculous
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
I want a fight, badly. I want Seanez to put Ramirez in some sort of crazy arm bar and take him out of the series. THat would be fun.
Manny only fights people over 70 ...
so yeah he would fight Seanez
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
If that happened Bud would use his powers to declare the Dodgers the winner, make everyone happy
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions
That ups the ante folks.
That’s just stupid
The only thing more ridiculous than the bench clearing ball that never happens is NBA players in fights, cause man are they girls about it
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:22 PM EDT reply actions
So when the Dodgers win the series all of the media clowns are gonna point to this as the moment they took control.
When the phillies come back and win and Happ gives up no hits for the next 7 innings – they’ll STILL talk about how the dodgers showed heart in dealing the the evil phillies pitchers.
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions
i hope happ hits a guy with his 68 mph curveball and the dodgers get all cocky about it
by Putsy Caballero. on Oct 12, 2008 9:25 PM EDT reply actions
I loved how manny got all tough about hitting someone when he was sure there were team mates to hold him back

“THis could not have gone any better for the Dodgers” -Joe Buck
I hate that man. I really do. Come on Happ, get your shit together.
Momentum is the next games starting pitcher Mr Buck – and if the dodgers are confident in Lowe, well, that’s why they’re in LA huh?
by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions
maybe happ can fire a fastball into the announcer’s booth?
by Putsy Caballero. on Oct 12, 2008 9:28 PM EDT reply actions
