Jamie Moyer vs Hiroki Kuroda

Clear. Winds blowing in from right field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 75.

Complete Coverage >

Unfortunately this is the second time this season that I've used this Warren Zevon song as the title to a game thread, but I think the appropriateness, brevity and clarity far outweighs the implications of being a redundant jerk.

After two games in Philadelphia where virtually everything went right for the Phillies, the Fightin's take a 2-0 series lead to the Belly of the SoCal Beast, where the Phillies went 0-4 this season and suffered a couple crushing late-inning defeats.

Jamie Moyer goes for the Phillies tonight, where the deep dimensions of Dodgers Stadium should help him with his fly ball tendencies.  Hiroki Kuroda, who absolutely owned the Phillies back in August, goes for the Dodgers.  Hopefully Moyer does a little better tonight than he did last week, and the Phillies can put a strangehold on the Dodgers and this series with a 3-0 lead.

Play Ball, folks.

I hate FOX – that introduction was offensive and insulting to Philadephia.

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:22 PM EDT   0 recs

And so is that god awful sunny tv show

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Devito might have been wasted.

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"

Probably is most of the time – i mean why the hell else would he be on that show?

I mean I know FOX wants them to win and all – but jesus christmas

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Uh. I guess. They were just emulating the Philly accent. Doesn’t really offend me.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:23 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

When one of the people basically says ‘who cares i’m a dodger fan’?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It’s irritating self promotion – does this mean that the cast of fringe will introduce the red sox in the world series?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That was ass, I agree.

by dajafi on Oct 12, 2008 8:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh. Didn’t hear that. That is pretty offensive.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah that was pretty messed up ... I mean at least fake it you're an actor.

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"

nice AB Jimmy. Please don’t do that again.

Just turn it to the food network, watch the pretty cakes

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The key for LA is to remember a game from August 30th not against the phillies?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:25 PM EDT   0 recs

haha

yeah threw me for a loop too

Then I remembere, McCarver is a douche

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

They’d pretty clearly prefer our guys not even be here.

by dajafi on Oct 12, 2008 8:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ugh. Okay, relax. We can do this, don’t get yourselves out.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:26 PM EDT   0 recs

They’ll relax when you do :)

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I was telling myself to relax. hehe.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, you’ll get mad at me for asking this question – but in 6 games in the playoffs, have the phils gotten an opposing team 1-2-3 in the first inning?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:28 PM EDT   0 recs

Chase with the walk. Okay, slowed him down a little at least.

by dajafi on Oct 12, 2008 8:28 PM EDT   0 recs

yeah that was a good AB

Cool – Chad Billingsley will be cheap in the off season

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:28 PM EDT   0 recs

Oh my God. Can these announcers ever shut the hell up about these friggin dodgers?

Kuroda throws a pitch way high and suddenly it is the wakeup call that the Dodgers needed. Get out of here with that shit.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:28 PM EDT   0 recs

Serioulsy – why the HELL is retaliation a required part of baseball?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:29 PM EDT   0 recs

agreed

maybe Billingsley feels the same way … that throwing 95 mph heater at someone on purpose is not exactly the best way to retaliate … winning IMO is.

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"

by Whodie126 on Oct 12, 2008 8:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I sense clubhouse problems with BIllingsley – he threw he catcher under the bus as well didn’t he?

Maybe the dodgers should stop making excuses

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

HE WAS SAFE

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:31 PM EDT   0 recs

Not sure about that call.

by dajafi on Oct 12, 2008 8:31 PM EDT   0 recs

Oh I’m sure…the umps got it wrong, blatantly, and FOX heads won’t notice cause it went the Dodgers way

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

eh. He was safe.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:32 PM EDT   0 recs

great job mary hart!!!!!!

by Putsy Caballero. on Oct 12, 2008 8:34 PM EDT   0 recs

So, the announcers want us to lose, the umps want us to lose, and the people brought in to read our lineups want us to lose…These asshats may trick me into rooting for the dodgers.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:34 PM EDT   0 recs

Come on – remember what Randy Newman said about how you should feel about Los Angeles

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh dear.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:36 PM EDT   0 recs

Moyer should hit him :)

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, this sucks.

by dajafi on Oct 12, 2008 8:36 PM EDT   0 recs

Living sort of in Southern California, my confidence level just isn’t that high for this game anyway

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh crap.

October=Pumpkin season

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:38 PM EDT   0 recs

But like I asked earlier – haven’t we been crappy in almost every first inning?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:38 PM EDT   0 recs

I said hit manny dumb ass

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:39 PM EDT   0 recs

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:39 PM EDT   0 recs

dodgers fans are so dumb. booing as if he hit him on purpose? in this situation?

by Putsy Caballero. on Oct 12, 2008 8:39 PM EDT   0 recs

Chances Jamie makes it out of the first…shrinking rapidly.

UGH!!! A lot of dinky hits here.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:43 PM EDT   0 recs

Ugh. Not a bad pitch, just poked it over Utley.

by dajafi on Oct 12, 2008 8:43 PM EDT   0 recs

Umps imposing their wills already.

Well carp

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:48 PM EDT   0 recs

That would seem to be that.

Clean your pants, Joe Buck.

by dajafi on Oct 12, 2008 8:48 PM EDT   0 recs

That’s bad. Take Jamie out. of the rotation.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:48 PM EDT   0 recs

ANd replace him with whom?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:49 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well. We sure have our work cut out for us against a pitcher who has given up 4 hits to us in 13 innings.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:49 PM EDT   0 recs

only a 30 pitch 5 run inning … damn

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"

by Whodie126 on Oct 12, 2008 8:49 PM EDT   0 recs

Look at it this way – did anyone really believe the phils were going to win 4-0 – even after the 2-0 start?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:50 PM EDT   0 recs

I did ...

but I’m also slightly delusional

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"

by Whodie126 on Oct 12, 2008 8:51 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No way, in fact, I had a strong feeling this would happen to Moyer. Really didn’t expect to beat Kuroda even if Moyer was sharp.

I just want 1 of 3 in LA.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:51 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I think 1 of 3 will get done, I believe 2 of 3 can get done but fat joe has to perform just as well as he did in Milwaukee…if the dodgers really want to bring lowe back on short rest, I think the advantage is strongly phils if you go by ‘last playoff appearance’ of starting pitcher.

This game isn’t entirely over yet either

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:53 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Howard gets it going with a double. THAT is a good sign.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:53 PM EDT   0 recs

Not yet to me – give me a couple more good at bats after this one and then we can talk :)

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If you’re just joining post season baseball…wouldn’t that imply you followed regular season baseball?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:53 PM EDT   0 recs

Nice to see Howard breaking out there. If he starts to get in a groove tonight, that’s not as good as a win, but it’s something.

by dajafi on Oct 12, 2008 8:54 PM EDT   0 recs

Juuuust under it from Burrell.

by dajafi on Oct 12, 2008 8:56 PM EDT   0 recs

Burrell just missed a homer there. Dang.

Is Happy Pete growing a playoff ‘terrorist’ beard?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:57 PM EDT   0 recs

Is this park huge?

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 8:57 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah. Funny how they don’t mention that but they love to talk (defying all statistical evidence) about how small CBP is.

I am going to write a letter to FOX after this series I have decided.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 12, 2008 8:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, Don, you just keep on tilting

by jemagee on Oct 12, 2008 9:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs
