Complete Coverage >

Alright, let's try this again...

After a sound Game Three thrashing in a matchup that looked bad for the Phillies about a week ago, the Phillies will attempt to stop the bleeding tonight and keep the Dodgers from evening the series at two games apiece.  They will do so behind the rather stout right shoulder of Joe Blanton, who pitched exceptionally in the Phillies Game 4 NLDS clincher against the Brewers.  The Dodgers send NLCS Game 1 starter/loser Derek Lowe to the hill on three days rest, relying on the old baseball adage (not really backed up by any empirical evidence) that sinkerball pitchers do their best work on short rest.

Even if the Phillies lose tonight, remember that the Dodgers still have to win at least one game in Philadelphia to end the Phillies season.

I love the “Phillies are bullies” meme that’s developed in the broadcast booth.

by WholeCamels on Oct 13, 2008 8:03 PM EDT   0 recs

It fits perfectly with the rooting interests of those two asshats in the booth. Naturally it makes sense to construct a narrative wherein the Phillies are bullies and, thus, deserve to lose.

Can’t watch any of the pregame bs. I’ll turn it on at 8.20.

Werth batting second tonight, Victorino sixth, and Dobbs is in for Feliz.

Rollins first-pitch swinging… probably good he missed it, as the next one is a line single to CF.

by dajafi on Oct 13, 2008 8:24 PM EDT   0 recs

First pitch not good for Jimmy, second pitch much better.

Tag Lowe early!

I have muted the TV and turned on the radio coverage. It is SOOOO much better for my sanity. Enjoy tweedle dee and tweedle dum all you non-philly watchers.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 13, 2008 8:25 PM EDT   0 recs

Hmm… I could do that with ESPN radio, I guess. Presumably you’re with Harry and LA, right?

by dajafi on Oct 13, 2008 8:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Franske and LA, still beats the living shit out of the Fox guys.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 13, 2008 8:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

See, the thing is that if the Phillies are winning, it’s great to hear how unhappy these bastards are.

ESPN Radio sucks too

by FuquaManuel on Oct 13, 2008 8:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Rollins runs, Werth hits, and it’s first and third.

by dajafi on Oct 13, 2008 8:28 PM EDT   0 recs

Werth hits the 3-1 through the hole. Good start.

If he had run harder, he might have been able to beat that out.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 13, 2008 8:31 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah, I saw the same thing. He only started busting it after DeWitt bobbled.

by dajafi on Oct 13, 2008 8:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Not the worst result for Ryan there.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 13, 2008 8:48 PM EDT   0 recs

Cookies missed his spot by about 8 inches on the Loney hit. I have a feeling he’ll do fine, though. His breaking stuff looked good against Martin.
