NLDS Game Two Thread, Brewers at Phillies

Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies, Oct 2, 2008 6:07 PM EDT

Next Game

Milwaukee Brewers
@ Philadelphia Phillies

Thursday, Oct 2, 2008, 6:07 PM EDT
Citizens Bank Park

CC Sabathia vs Brett Myers

Mostly clear. Winds blowing from left to right field at 5-15 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 60.

Complete Coverage >

After a HUGE Game One victory, the Phillies take the field this evening trying to solve an even huger puzzle that's been baffling most of the National League this summer -- Brewers starter CC Sabathia.

Sabathia has been nothing short of brilliant since coming to Milwaukee from Cleveland in a June trade (11-2, 1.65 ERA).  Tonight's start will be his fourth in a row on three games rest for a Brewers team that has been in "must-win" mode since new manager Dale Sveum took the helm.  Fatigue struck Sabathia in last year's American League playoffs, with both New York and Boston hitting him pretty hard at times.  Could the Phillies be the beneficiaries here as well?

Enigmatic righty Brett Myers goes for the Phillies.  Which Brett will we get?  Hopefully the long layoff since his last start has allowed him to recharge his batteries a bit and get his head straight, but his last two starts were just brutal.  If Myers is on his game, we could really have a great pitching matchup tonight.

A win tonight gives the Phillies a commanding 2-0 lead heading to Milwaukee, where the Phillies will face Dave Bush and Jeff Suppan.  A loss allows Milwaukee to swipe home-field advantage from the Phillies and forces the Phils to win both games in Milwaukee to avoid the prospect of facing Sabathia again in a Game Five finale.

I am a gonna go out on a pretty huge limb here and say this: we will know after the first inning what kind of game this will be.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 5:02 PM EDT reply actions

Missed it by that much

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Haha. No kidding. I will not go out on limbs anymore…it’s just grounds for me falling out of trees.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions

anyone watching the rays-sox game?

announcing on TBS for this game is just turrible.

by char6587 on Oct 2, 2008 5:08 PM EDT reply actions

TBS announcers suck – and they showed me craig saeger during baseball season last night, he’s bad enough during the NBA season

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

also, does anyone have any advice for the best way to deal with frank caliendo?

by char6587 on Oct 2, 2008 5:09 PM EDT reply actions

a tire iron and a shovel…. ???

by foos05 on Oct 2, 2008 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Cutting out his tongue would work nicely, plus no murder charges

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Okay Brett…be an ace.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:02 PM EDT reply actions

Ruiz is catching…which is unusual for Myers…he seems to pitch to Coste exclusively.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:08 PM EDT reply actions

First fastball hit 93 according to the TBS gun. Good sign early.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:09 PM EDT reply actions

3 fastballs=K to Cameron.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:09 PM EDT reply actions

Follows it up with a 4 pitch walk to Durham. Weird.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:11 PM EDT reply actions

Braun doubles on a 1-2 pitch.

Oh shit Myers…don’t do this nonsense.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:13 PM EDT reply actions

IBB to Fielder. Bases loaded, 1-out. Already a huge spot in this game.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:14 PM EDT reply actions

…and here’s the logic for happ over seanez

by char6587 on Oct 2, 2008 6:14 PM EDT reply actions

3-0 to Hardy. For Christ’s sake Brett. WTF?

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:15 PM EDT reply actions

1-0 Brewers.

It’s the bad Brett everybody. This game is gonna suck.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:16 PM EDT reply actions

WOW

HUGE double play. jeez. thank you thank you

by char6587 on Oct 2, 2008 6:17 PM EDT reply actions

Huge double play to end the inning from Brett.

Okay, maybe it was just nerves. We will see next inning.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:17 PM EDT reply actions

yikes

could have been a whole lot worse… maybe that settles him down? I can pretend right?

by heyelander on Oct 2, 2008 6:19 PM EDT reply actions

With Sabathia on the hill, I fear the damage might have been done.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:21 PM EDT reply actions

Why the hell doesn’t Cholly split Howard and Utley tonight? Sometimes I just don’t get this guy.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:22 PM EDT reply actions

Victorino doubles. We need to bring him in here. Sabathia has the matchup advantage however, in that he gets to face 2 lefties in a row.

Victorino moves over to 3rd on passed ball. Now we MUST bring him home here.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:24 PM EDT reply actions

Utley Ks.

That was big. All we needed was contact really.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:26 PM EDT reply actions

Howard quickly down 0-2. We know what happens next.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:27 PM EDT reply actions

That’s why you fucking split the lefties against one of the best lefties in baseball Cholly you moron.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:28 PM EDT reply actions

Relax

It’s one inning. Your post count is rivaling Brett’s pitch count.

by dpb132 on Oct 2, 2008 6:30 PM EDT up reply actions

sabathia is nowhere near the strike zone with a lot of those swinging ks.
too aggressive

by Bilzo on Oct 2, 2008 6:31 PM EDT reply actions

Myers looked sharp on that K to Counsell.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:32 PM EDT reply actions

I didn’t see the first, but from watching these first two hitters here, it seems like his stuff is okay—just needs to stay calm and focus.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 6:34 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah. His stuff is definitely good tonight. I don’t think his first inning issues were the same as his last 2 games. Seemed mostly like nerves to me.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions

he got squoze a little on the walk to durham but nothing obnoxious.
He made one bad pitch to Braun.

by Bilzo on Oct 2, 2008 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Wind a factor for the righties again tonight.

Burrell got a big piece of one and it fell way short.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:40 PM EDT reply actions

hitting it off the end of his bat didn’t help either

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought he made solid contact, but if you say so.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Burrell got a good swing on that, but my guess is that the ball isn’t carrying in the cold.

Gotta make him throw a lot of pitches. 17 in the first was an okay start. Of course it’s tough if he throws strikes.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 6:40 PM EDT reply actions

Werth with a nice double on a 1-2 pitch. Lefty killer.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:41 PM EDT reply actions

Werth hit a rope—double into the gap.

That’s 4-5 hard-hit balls so far, a couple of which have fallen in. They can do this.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 6:41 PM EDT reply actions

Feliz. Double. Tie-game.

We can definitely do this.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:43 PM EDT reply actions

Happy Pete!

Double just down the line—tie game!

Third double in the first seven hitters.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 6:43 PM EDT reply actions

Myers looks like he is gonna run up the 3b line on these hacks. lol.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:46 PM EDT reply actions

Crowd roaring as Myers takes balls and fouls pitches off…

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 6:47 PM EDT reply actions

Damn. Myers has had the best AB against Sabathia tonight!!

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:48 PM EDT reply actions

I’m cracking up watching this.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 6:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Myers wasn’t working the count, he was working the crowd.

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?

by jonk on Oct 2, 2008 6:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Works the walk. OMG!!!!

Come on Jimmy. Let’s make this one count. Reward your pitcher.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:49 PM EDT reply actions

Sabathia might be coming apart here. We have a chance to really do some damage.

Crowd is rocking, hanging on every pitch.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:52 PM EDT reply actions

Six straight balls. Kendall to the mound.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 6:52 PM EDT reply actions

GRAND SLAM VICTORINO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-1

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:53 PM EDT reply actions

Sabathia is just not a good postseason pitcher I guess. Wowee.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

Holy shit. What kind of pitch was that CC?

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?

by jonk on Oct 2, 2008 6:55 PM EDT reply actions

should have benched Utley and Howard.

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?

by jonk on Oct 2, 2008 6:55 PM EDT reply actions

Shut em down here Brett.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:55 PM EDT reply actions

I am much happier than I was 20 minutes ago.

by char6587 on Oct 2, 2008 6:55 PM EDT reply actions

Gotta figure Sabathia's tired

This is his fifth start in 17 days.

In those first four starts he threw 99, 105, 107, and 122.

And he’s got 51 thru 2 today.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 6:56 PM EDT reply actions

right. I imagine people are going to jump on him tomorrow for not being a clutch post season pitcher, but I really don’t think thats it. you can’t expect anyone to keep pitching like an ace on such short rest so often

by char6587 on Oct 2, 2008 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

That was like 4 extra base hits all with 2 strikes.

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?

by jonk on Oct 2, 2008 6:57 PM EDT reply actions

Big first out after falling behind 3-1.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 6:59 PM EDT reply actions

Do you think Sabathia is done?

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:01 PM EDT reply actions

I think he’s probably at a point where if two guys get on, he’s done.

Big strikeout there—slider.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Myers not locating very well here. Maybe he’s still amped up from his AB.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:01 PM EDT reply actions

nice

1-2-3 go the Brewers in the third

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:03 PM EDT reply actions

HUGE inning there for Brett. Lets put Sabathia out of his misery here!

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:03 PM EDT reply actions

myers got by there but his velocity seemed down and got away with a few.. anyone else see the speed gun readings- 88-90 dont know how big of a deal that is

by phils11 on Oct 2, 2008 7:05 PM EDT reply actions

I saw one earlier at 92, and upthread FM reported a 93.

I’m not super-concerned. Myers doesn’t really blow guys away at this point—more like setting them up with it to put them away with offspeed stuff.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah…he tends to do that…he was clearly amped up in the 1st so has was digging deep and hitting 92-94. Since then it appears he has settled into his normal 88-91 groove.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions

remember brett’s first start back in the majors against the mets? brett got absolutely pooped on in the first inning, but then settled down and pitched like a stud for the rest of the season?

maybe thats how brett turns things around? comes back from a wicked slump with a terrible first inning, then snaps into it and cruises the rest of the year (post-season). maybe?

by char6587 on Oct 2, 2008 7:08 PM EDT reply actions

Howard Ks after taking CC to 3-0

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:08 PM EDT reply actions

Utley and Howard will most likely K in every at bat against Sabathia tonight, i’m ok with that right now :)

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Is it too much to hope they don’t face him again tonight?

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

hopefully they wont face him again

by phils11 on Oct 2, 2008 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Well Werth just got another double, so if the bottom part can do it again, maybe…

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Sabathia is pretty ungodly against lefty hitters: .205 average allowed, WHIP under 1. Against righties, he’s a merely very good .247 OBA, 1.16 WHIP.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:10 PM EDT reply actions

Werth Doubles again.

All these extra base hits are great.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

Werth

Feeling it against the lefty—second double tonight.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

BTW – the start times for tonights game 2’s are just stupid

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:13 PM EDT reply actions

I was thinking that any young kid in Chicago was really screwed—game starts at 8:30 there. It’s bad enough when the NBA does that in postseason.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m just saying, what the hell kind of start time is 6 PM (local time)…I missed yesterdays game cause inventory takes too damn long, so today I just ducked out to do homework and then watch the game – but 6 pm start time just seems weird to me for you philly folks…i also worried about ‘sunset’ impact – would that be a factor

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Can Happy Pete REALLY deliver two at bats in a row?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

I’m deeply impressed that he’s gotten to a three-ball count.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

…though he waved at ball four to end it. Entirely my fault.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Pedro Feliz is contractually prevented from taking too many walks in a season, he’s a little too close to the limit that voids his contract so he had to swing.

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

BTW – the old folks IMing about theie retirement commercial idea is just as bad as Frank TV ads (but not as tiresome as the long dead ‘geico caveman’ ploy)

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:17 PM EDT reply actions

Hits Hart on 0-2. That was stupid.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:20 PM EDT reply actions

Message Pitch – that’s all – it’s all part of the plan – and it’s 5-1 and sabathia looks fat and tired – enjoy the game already :)

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

You don’t really need the “PitchTrax” when it drills the dude in the back.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:20 PM EDT reply actions

haha. I appreciated it. Would have been better if there was a virtual Corey Hart in there.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Another nice inning. Brewers seem like they’re pressing now, and Myers has settled in.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:21 PM EDT reply actions

In other news: it’s a busy night for my TV tonight…

-Biden vs. Palin should be hilarious if nothing else

-The Office is on @ 10

Looks like I will not be getting any work done.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:24 PM EDT reply actions

no office actually…damn.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Ack—I didn’t even think of The Office.

I do hope this ends in Phillies victory by 9.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

No, it’s not actually on. My bad. Debate pre-empts it. Who cares about this election nonsense anyways?

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

No new episodes of shows air after the 8 pm hour tonight due to the silliness of having the ‘unscripted’ VP debate…

I’ll be watching dodgers cubs, go dodgers

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

So this is, what, a quarter of the pitches CC has thrown to Myers?

Another unreal AB.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:28 PM EDT reply actions

Sabathia is PISSED that Myers has given him so much trouble.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:28 PM EDT reply actions

Double for J-Roll.

Uh, Shane, it’s your turn again buddy.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:30 PM EDT reply actions

Singles?

We don’t need no stinking singles.

Come on Shane, knock this putz out of the game

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:30 PM EDT reply actions

J-Roll with another double.

Sabathia’s supposed to hit second this inning, I think. He might not make it. (Or maybe, given how good a hitter he is, they’ll let him hit and then lift him.)

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

Insult to Chase Utley

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

ha

IBB Victorino to face Utley. As the man said, my brain is hanging upside down…

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

iBB to Shane is the smart move with Utley coming up.

God that sounds so disgusting coming out of my mouth.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

Ok – who were those guys calling the grand slam on the TBS replay? I didn’t recognize the voices

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

Franske and Larry Anderson methinks.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions

It was a sucky call – and didn’t sound like wheeler or harry – which is good, and bad, i guess

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions

This is pretty amazing: three steals of third in this game.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:35 PM EDT reply actions

That idiot who does (or used to do the braves games) tells me it’s going against the book to steal so many bases…it seems to me that the phillies have good base stealers AND Sabathia is rather easy to steal on.

And Sabathia will not face Ryan Howard…

Which reporter will be the first to say ‘cost himself some money’ after this game is over?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Utley draws the walk to load em up. That does it for Carsten Charles.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:36 PM EDT reply actions

Can’t ask for much more than that.

I think he’ll bring in Stetter. This guy is wild, he’s inexperienced, and he’ll be facing a frenzied crowd.

If Howard doesn’t swing at all, odds are he gets an RBI here.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:38 PM EDT reply actions

Swung at ball two there, fouled it off…

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:40 PM EDT reply actions

And ball 3?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Steal Home Jimmy

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions

If Jimmy tried to steal home and got there before the ball crossed the plate for strike 3 – would the run count?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions

id like to know too if anyone knows

by phils11 on Oct 2, 2008 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

my best guess would be know because a k seems like itd be considered a “force” so like a play to first the run wouldnt count even if he scores before the ball crosses but im not at all sure.

by phils11 on Oct 2, 2008 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions

If anyone is reading, I am almost positive it would count since it is not a force play and occured before the out was recorded. It is akin to him stealing second on a throw over to first (and subsequently to second) and then the pitcher then striking out the batter on the next pitch.

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?

by jonk on Oct 3, 2008 7:55 AM EDT up reply actions

Howard Ks. Turrible turrible AB there.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:41 PM EDT reply actions

Ugh. Bad approach by Howard.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:41 PM EDT reply actions

Does Bank of America have branches in Philadelphia?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:42 PM EDT reply actions

Is TBS contractually obligated to not give the Phillies any credit whatsoever?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:45 PM EDT reply actions

I’ts not just TBS – seriously – did you watch national coverage at all today – the phillies (the only home team to win yesterday) were a freaking aftermath.

I can only imagine what it’s going to be like when game 1 of the world series features cole hamels vs josh beckett

yeah – i said it

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Looks like the only 10000+ loss club

is doing much better this year than last year against my Rocks. CC should be renamed TNT (no pun). Excellent post season when you are looking for big bucks.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 7:48 PM EDT reply actions

He might have made himself cheap enough for the Phils to sign him!

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

You win the booby prize – congrats.

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

thanks

BTW, possibly the best user name I’ve ever seen on SBN. I tip my cap.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Another nice frame from Myers, though Gwynn Jr. helped him by swinging at a pitch that wasn’t close.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

It was a good curve in my book.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Who do you think is more ashamed of their brewer son – tony gwynn or prince fielder?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

So – during game 4 of the phils sweep in LA TBS/CNN is going to ask everyone to save energy by turning off all the lights in their house (or all the electrical appliances too?) – does that not seem self defeatings?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

I saw this lard a$$ McClurg

in Houston on a business trip in my hotel. You’ll score many on this sorry guy.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 7:54 PM EDT reply actions

So – those folks who were questioning charlies putting Victorino in the #2 spot today…what you got to say now?

Charlie Manuel is a friggin managerial genius – he makes the phillies 10 wins better and that’s scientifically provable because i see it with my own eyes

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:55 PM EDT reply actions

Ah, there is shitty Happy Pete. God I hate him.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

Pete ….. don’t regress to your sad ways.

by Bilzo on Oct 2, 2008 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

No see – he’s not ‘regressing’ – what you saw previously were the exceptions that prove the rule.

Get me Adrian Beltre damn it – the mariners are going to be cutting costs

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously – You can’t have a pitcher from a team in the same division announce a playoff game – Jon Smoltz is programmed to dislike the phillies.

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

I thought he was really good yesterday, but he’s kind of back to his bitchy, whining self today.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Sadly, missed yesterday, was supposed to be able to leave work for both games – that did not work out…

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Ruiz shows happy pete how it’s done.

That’s it Ruiz – improve your trade value – you can do it

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:58 PM EDT reply actions

McClung walks Ruiz.

I remember we saw this guy in ’06 when he was with Tampa, and a starter. He throws hard, but back then he had no idea where it was going. Now, he sort of seems to.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

Are you sure about that?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Brett Myers is a machine

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

LOL

Myers singles… and Burrell has to hold. Damn, he slow. Probably a smart call though.

I was shocked he was still in the game

HAHA. Brett Myers. What can you say about this guy? Great night at the plate.

J Roll needs to rip one down the line here.

How the hell is someone so fat so quick?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:01 PM EDT reply actions

Sonuvabitch—couldn’t have hit it much harder, but snared by Prince.

The TV show promos are bad enough – but using Frank to advertise that weak arse DirecTV wanna be as well is just ridiculous.

XM and Sirius merged – when will DirecTV by echostar?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:03 PM EDT reply actions

Chooch looks like a friggin’ cat on that second out.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

Constantly improving his trade value – both the bosox and yankees need catchers – it’s all good

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

God damn Brett…awesome work.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

7 pitch inning for myers.

Ok – so after the top of the first – who the hell saw THIS outcome after 5 coming?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

Blink-and-ya-missed-it 6th inning there.

I love when Myers throws ground-ball outs.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

I love when Myers pitches like he’s supposed to

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Myers

pitched one of the best games I ever saw at Coors a couple of years ago. When he is one he’s real good.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:09 PM EDT reply actions

He’s a strange guy—almost always tremendous or awful. If he ever really grows up, and stays healthy, he’ll be a top-10 pitcher in the game.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

and yet – not the best pitcher on his team

which would be just the awesomest – and if one of those minors kids could come through a fearsome 1-2-3 to match up a fearsome batting order once beltre is obtained and marson is the starter

Was that the 1-0 game?

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:11 PM EDT reply actions

Utley crushed that. Unlucky.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:12 PM EDT reply actions

It took me a minute to realize that our good hitters are coming up, not the Feliz/Ruiz combo I’ve become accustomed to seeing follow Shane.

Utley with a rocket, but right at Hart. C’mon big man…

IBB for Howard

He now has four walks and four strikeouts in the series.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:13 PM EDT reply actions

I wanna see Pat hit one into the 2nd deck. I might be able to hear the crowd from West Philly if he does that.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:14 PM EDT reply actions

The Phils had a lefty back in the 80s

Shane Rawley. I went 0-21 against him in the minors one year and could not hit him to save my neck.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:14 PM EDT reply actions

You might have single-handedly got him to the bigs…

21 ABs against the guy in one year—to see him that much, you must have done okay against other guys.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I did

but I had an arm like Juan Pierre so go figure. Made it to AAA.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Sub 10 second 100 speed

Mickey Morandini (another Phil) was a college teammate of mine at Indiana.

So why does Juan Pierre still play in baseball again – can any one remind me?

Eh, maybe not. Looked better on the replay than it did live.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

So now we see how ‘clutch’ Jayson Werth is I guess

Jayson Werth is NOT clutch it seems

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:21 PM EDT up reply actions

That is correct

I live at 8000 feet elevation in 50 acres of pine forest in the mts of Colorado. But I played this game at all levels but one and no when you are “stunk” and the Brewers are tonite,

The mind bottles at the possibilities.

Dear Brett – ignore the hitter on second base – focus on these guys at the plate only

Damnit. Leadoff double.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:24 PM EDT reply actions

Leadoff double for Hardy… on which he broke his bat. It’s like they’re using the special wuss-wood sticks tonight…

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:24 PM EDT reply actions

Holy Crap – do the phils have the best trio of arms in the outfield in baseball?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:25 PM EDT reply actions

Werth launched one there, but couldn’t quite get the tagging runner at third.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:25 PM EDT reply actions

Told you he is popping handles

the pitch count is getting up there though. Huge change from my days 100 and you are shot. My managers never kept count of pitches in the minors. Less stamina these days.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

Buzz – is that you?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s around 90, I think.

You’re right, but Manuel tends to give Myers more of a leash than Hamels (who’s young) or Moyer (who’s, um, not). I’m sure he’ll go out for the 8th, unless something awful happens in these next couple hitters.

Groundout, run scores. That’s okay.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Damn. We better score again. I do NOT want Lidge to force me to lose my dinner.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:27 PM EDT reply actions

Only you can be responsible for you losing your dinner – but you really shouldn’t eat (or drink) during philies games – you’ll mess yourself – and possibly your computers – with all the wild gesticulating i imagine goes on as you enjoy your rare ‘sports induced bipolar condition’

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Haha. I’m telling you, I have no control over it. It used to be just Gordon…but now Lidge induces nausea , vomiting, and incontinence in me.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, the TBS guys think Myers is done. I hope they’re wrong.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:28 PM EDT reply actions

94 pitches

Facing 9-1-2 in the 8th. I’d definitely leave him.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Depends on if he comes to the plate with 2 out and none on or 1 out and man on second?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Now Moyer

I could hit that guy very well. Cannot believe he is still playing. Maybe I can make a comeback at 47?

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:30 PM EDT reply actions

well, you were older than him

Of course you had the edge…

Though I also got the impression that he became a different pitcher in his late 20s/early 30s, and I imagine you saw him earlier.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

He threw low 90's when I faced him

back in the mid/late 80’s. I think he was married to Digger Phelps daughter. He developed arm trouble in the late 80s and I think he was in Baltimore when they made him a junker.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Eric Gagne, I hate this guy with a passion.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:31 PM EDT reply actions

I love the way he pitches, for the phillies that is

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

How about let Myers go the 8th and go ‘comittee’ in the 9th…just look at match ups and if you have to use 3 guys to get 3 outs – no big deal? Give lidge rest, phils pen has been strong all year, and you got the day off coming,.

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:32 PM EDT reply actions

Logic says yes. Managerial CYA practice says: no shot.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Stupid Book – I hate the book

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Cholly said they are gonna use him though, which makes me really nervous after last night.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions

And yet, they use him in an important spot in a game.

Odd to use him when you hate him

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s been pretty good for the last month or two, I think.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Dude, he was on steroids, and everyone in california knows it

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

Feliz is slow as well?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:34 PM EDT reply actions

Don’t you remember the Houston game that ended when he was doubled up at the plate trying to tag with the tying run, on a ball that was caught at the wall?

(Yeah, he’s slow.)

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions

It really sucks to be so good at 3 infield positions and so consistently terrible at one.

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Dammit—terrific play by Hardy there. Reminiscent of the Rollins DP that clinched the division.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:34 PM EDT reply actions

happy pete tried to take the walk but the ump refused to let him

by Bilzo on Oct 2, 2008 8:34 PM EDT reply actions

Crap—Dobbs PH’ing for Myers.

Not only would I let Myers hit, if I did PH I damn sure wouldn’t use my best bench bat here.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:36 PM EDT reply actions

The way myers has gone tonight, you let him hit whether you are going to bring him back for the 8th or not…

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Myers done. I am assuming we will get Madson.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:36 PM EDT reply actions

You gonna be okay with that? ;)

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Uh. Yeah. (Shakes head no).

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions

He’ll turn on CNBC and hear about the300+ dow drop today – less stressful

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Ugh. I hadn’t heard about that.

Presumably it’ll go up tomorrow when the House passes the bill, no?

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know when the house is voting – the senate tacked on some nice pork to the 700 billion (and both candidates voted Aye) but who knows if the house will pass the bill anyway – they might get pissy about the senate doing something they aren’t really supposed to do.

The stock market will go up tomorrow because people are over reacting to EVERYTHING, so there are buying opportunities aplenty after a 300+ point drop.

It’s funny – the same propagandists who got us into a war we didn’t need to be in are blowing this completely out of proportion as well -

And oh yeah, the bills they are passing won’t fix what went wrong :)

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I know. It’s just the psychology of the credit markets (not even the NYSE so much), that evidently requires them to do something.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s public perception that requires them to do something…the general public is too ignorant of the real problems (and they have no one but their own ignorance and stupidity to blame) that they freak out unecessarily and demand action.

There were two interesting quotes on the front page of the NYT the other day

Colorado Republican Man – I think the mob shot down the bill (after the house vote)
Ohio Democrat woman – how did the banks fail so fast

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

But the public was against the bailout through Monday, when the House voted it down—if you read Nate Silver’s polling site, he had great numbers on all the guys in close races who voted Nay.

I get your meaning, though.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions

My rep voted aye – i hate my rep – but she’s running unopposed.

The average american believes what they hear on their slanted talk radio source of choice…

Me, i listen to sports radio and would rather watch sportscenter instead of the news.

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

The biggest joke

this whole 7 innings and done crap. This starter, setup man, closer crap is way too much Clint Hurdle for me.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:37 PM EDT reply actions

Ooh, not a popular name around here—not for the playoffs last year, but for the seven times he had Lidge warm up during the ASG.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Well if it makes you feel any better

Aaron Cook pitched 3 innings in that game on 2 days rest and was a 14 game winner and won two games the rest of the year.

Lidge is from the Republic of Colorado. Although he is a Cherry Creek HS snob.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Probably not a pouplar name in colorado since they were supposed to be awesome this year, regardless of how over their heads they played last year (for a couple months)

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Myers definitely could have done that.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:38 PM EDT reply actions

I wonder if they saw something with Myers, or if he said, “I’m gassed” in the dugout.

Because otherwise this really is pretty friggin’ dumb.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

A questionable move made by Charlie Manuel?

That’s news how then?

I’m not one to harp on LOBs cause I understand the whole gotta get guys on base to score runs and such, but i’m a bit worried…

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Madson

could have issues with this lineup.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:42 PM EDT reply actions

No trouble yet if his short stop could field properly

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Jimmy, DO NOT give them extra outs – you are now responsible to turn the double play no matter where the ball is hit – got it?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

Shit. That’s not a good start. i hate when the leadoff man gets on base against Madson.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

Okay. That was a big out.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

Rule number one for infielders

never backhand anything you can get your body in front of.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

Bob? Pete?

Whatever, it’s an out.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:45 PM EDT reply actions

Probably too slow to turn the DP, but they got the lead out.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:45 PM EDT reply actions

Madson almost airmailed that one into CF. Whew. 1 is better than none there.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:45 PM EDT reply actions

Braun coming up w/ runner on scares me.

by Bilzo on Oct 2, 2008 8:46 PM EDT reply actions

Madson has had no trouble, and would be out of this inning if it weren’t for the error…so there’s that

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:46 PM EDT reply actions

Braun

this guy can flat out rake. Saw him in AZ this srping and the ball flies off his bat.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:46 PM EDT reply actions

and most of baseball saw him rake last year as well – and wondered why the hell he was in the infield at all…

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

And the extra out could cost them – if JC Romero is not ready to pitch – kill charlie manuel

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:47 PM EDT reply actions

Okay. Breathe.

JC saves. Juan Carlos that is.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

Now a big swing

can tie it. Relax on Charlie I played against his teams and he was always a great guy.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

So what? I don’t care if he’s a good guy or a bad guy, I care if he’s a good manager or a bad manager, and he’s league average at best…

It’s shocking that Pat Burrell is still in this game though.

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s not. That last single dropped in front of Bruntlett… whom I still dread out there as a longtime infielder.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh – i thought it was burrell – whoops

Fielder sucks – awesome

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:50 PM EDT up reply actions

He doesn’t suck, but the only lefty I’ve seen handle J.C. all year was DelRoido.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Manuel

is a solid manager. You don’t survive in this game for 40+ years like him unless you got the stuff. He’s made some shrewd moves this year and frankly the Phils have played well the last two years given the park and their thin pitching.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions

The park has been the most neutral in baseball this season.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m going to donate money to the favored charity of whatever announcer bothers to mention this during the playoffs.

You could make a wonderful drinking game for watching phillies games if you just watched ‘opposing’ broadcast teams and had a few key phrases linked.

It’s no ‘wheeler bingo’ but still

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I really like Charlie. At worst, he’s the poor man’s Bobby Cox—stands up for his guys in front of the camera, kicks ass when need be behind closed doors, maybe not the best tactician but runs a good clubhouse.

And his Vic/Werth lineup gambit today worked out pretty damn well.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Sure you do – managers are vastly over rated and underrated base on their teams performance…

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes! Broken bat groundout… thank goodness it was fatass running there.

See that’s what i thought, but based on their commercial the only ‘true’ baseball fans are on the west coast, in new york, boston and st louis.

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Judgmental, knowledgeable and dyspeptic for sure, but I don’t know about “true.” (Why aren’t false fans defined as the late-to-arrive, early-to-depart variety so easily mocked in LA. Our problem I guess stems from the fact that we are stuck in the seats waiting for the train instead of sitting in traffic, which leads to throwing boozy snowballs at charlatans like Santa Claus and Jimmy Johnson).

Yes, who cares if he looked shaky and threw over 35 pitches yesterday and you have one of the best pens in the game and a lot of rested arms…it’s the 9th inning – the closer pitches cause it’s a save situation.

Holy shnikes—Kendall with a seed to get Rollins.

When did he turn into Benito Santiago?

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 8:58 PM EDT reply actions

Kendall has been

a surprise this year. I thought he was done but played great and has some tank left.

Blind Squrrel – nut?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh good – lidge is warming.

Where’s that towel curt schilling had in 93?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:01 PM EDT reply actions

I’m definitely flashing back to that ’93 NLCS.

Hardy/Hart/Counsell/Kendall?

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 9:02 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe he will be sharper tonight…or maybe he wont tip…or maybe…oh hell, get the adult diapers ready.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 9:04 PM EDT reply actions

Well I am going to leave since

I was accused of being a racist for stating a Latin pitcher has no fear and comes at you with hard stuff.

Good luck to you all.

by PinchHitLancePainter on Oct 2, 2008 9:04 PM EDT reply actions

Generalizing an entire culture type – that’s typically the general definition of racism

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s not what he was doing.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I hit post too soon

Was going to add that the statement was more like “short lefthanders try to get by on guile.” IMO, anyway.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

It was a stereotype. If you find sterotypes offensive, then it was offensive. If you say that all black men have huge members, that is a stereotype. Many black guys might like that, but doesn’t change the meaning of the word.

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?

by jonk on Oct 3, 2008 8:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Sorry, generalizing pitchers from central america like that I find offensive….just like there are no scrappy black baseball players….

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Again, racialism is different than racism. Not necessarily less reprehensible, but it has different implications.

I didn’t want to see him go…but hey, that’s his choice.

Line drive out #1…

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 9:05 PM EDT reply actions

Whew. My heart skipped a beat on that bb to Bruntlett.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 9:05 PM EDT reply actions

I thought it was going to drop as well…

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe Lidges outing yesterday was like Myers first inning tonight? Just a blip?

A blip would be nice

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

Wow – look at howard move

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:08 PM EDT reply actions

Damn, thought that was it. Didn’t quite stay in play.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 9:08 PM EDT reply actions

RIGHT ON

Much easier than last night!

Great win.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 9:09 PM EDT reply actions

I now have a lot less worry about the fact that Joe Blanton is part of the phillies playoff rotation.

Two very nice outings from the starting pitching -

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:09 PM EDT reply actions

maybe he won't be

Don’t want to get ahead of myself, but…

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions

damn

I mean in this round. Probably it would mean something bad if we didn’t see him at all this month.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Charlie had a dream and put in Happ instead? I mean he’s been in baseball for 40 years so he must know something right?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

with the White Sox also in the playoffs, I’m grateful that Joe Cowley is NOT part of the Phillies’ playoff rotation.

by Wet Luzinski on Oct 2, 2008 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Is it just me or do the glasses on Sarah Palins face look like a prop more than anything else?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:11 PM EDT reply actions

Am I the only one who has difficulty understanding her. Is she speaking English?

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 9:13 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah

a sexy, sexy prop.

(I kid, I kid.)

Give them credit, though: they arranged this debate in a way that she won’t have to do anything but stick to her talking points.

by dajafi on Oct 2, 2008 9:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Debates are so useless these days, pre submitted questions, days to get answers ready, no need to show you can think on your feet…just memorize lines…and no one says anything worth while unless they have alzheimers (yeah you stockdale) or they are up against a guy who can’t spell those tuber things that grow in the ground we use to make french fries.

I don’t get the ‘palin is hot’ stuff – i’m convinced that’s just propaganada…i’m also convinced she shouldn’t be praised for her pregnant 17 year old (oh god, i agree with brittney spears mommy)

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

The debates would be much better if Kucinich came out and danced across the stage every time someone failed to answer the question at hand.

Suffice it to say that Kucinich would be doing a lot of dancing.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Answering a question without answering it is one of the key skills in politics these days.

Seriously – what happened to the best and the brightest?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I really think Nader should be allowed into the debate. At the very least it would shift the terms of the debate to the left. Assuming he wasn’t just forced to stand there like a window dressing.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s not a candidate – hard to be in a VP debate when there’s no candidate.

The problem isn’t who is in the debate, but how these idiotic things are run – you learn nothing – for me the TRUE purpose of a debate is to see how a candidate reacts to things, they have a general idea what’s coming but aren’t sure, or open it up to the audience (within reason)…with time to prepare your answers and pre approved questions there’s not demonstration of a candidates ability to think on their feet – which to me is what a debate should show you – who is more prepared to handle the curve balls – to react to the unexpected – to string words together to answer a question without knowing the question far in advance.

It’s sad that as our society our expectations from our leaders have dropped so low that smart people are demonized…no one wants a leader smarter than them – they want a guy they want to have a beer with…they never ask themselves this – those guys you drink beer with on a daily basis – would you want any of them to be president.

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I mean allow nader into the presidential debate…he is indeed a candidate.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions

WHat states is he on the ballot in?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

New Mexico and Hawaii so far…but that should not be the only prerequisite for “candidate” status.

He is running a presidential campaign…which makes him a candidate in my opinion.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 2, 2008 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Why is CC the press conference I’m watching?

Why does the NHL have a channel before MLB?

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:20 PM EDT reply actions

So I want to face the dodgers in the NLCS – but I want them to be tired – so let’s get a cubs win tonight – and some really long extra inning games

by jemagee on Oct 2, 2008 9:30 PM EDT reply actions

and Manny getting injured in the 18th inning scoring the winning run in game 7.

by Wet Luzinski on Oct 2, 2008 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

For long time fan tonight was sweet relief (and start from Brett). Not sure how to feel being up 2-0. Hopeful? Optimistic? Dare I say yes. This must have been a new record of posts, 351, yes? To many accusations and political posts for my taste though. BASEBALL/PHILLIES

by suffering on Oct 2, 2008 9:42 PM EDT reply actions

you’d have to nit-pick—maybe the LOBs, but having attended Myers’ season finale vs ATL he didn’t look like the same guy, which is good. The Brewers have a tough hill to climb. Granted, Moyer’s not a towering presence, but in a situation where you have to press he can make you look foolish, and the guy won a lot of games this season. Behind him is a rested, decent bullpen, and Hamels and Myers again behind that. They needed Sabathia to get to the playoffs (oh and the Mets collapsing…remember that?); behind him, not much now that Sheets is out of there.
