World Series Game 4: Pre-game chat

What an opener for the Phillies at home.  Stupud MLB kept everyone waiting and up late, but I'll give them a pass because it is a Saturday night.  Great win last night and I think the gameball might go to JC Roomero who, if there is a such a thing called momentum, completely took it away from the Rays.  It will be interesting to see how the bullpens are played out today.  If you want to talk about the Eagles, go ahead as well.

Lidge should be fresh. It’s been 3 days since he’s seen action.

Well, my prediction for this series is now out the window, the pitching has been better than I thought, even with ‘bad calls’ the ‘luck’ if you believe in it seems to be tilting towards the phillies…howard seemed ‘confident’ in his post game interview on fox so maybe his bat will show up.

Sonnanstines stats at yahoo are weird to me, a right handed pitcher who has more success against lefties than righties?

Good changeup maybe?

Will it be possible for Longoria and Pena to not have a hit in the entire seires?

A hit, probably not. But it was possible for Howard to go the entire NLCS without doing much damage at all…

by FuquaManuel on Oct 26, 2008 12:53 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Seems like a gratuitous shot at Howard when he wasn’t even near the subject discussed.

Jeez. I was just providing some perspective man. What I meant was that a hitter as good as Howard can be shut down for a series, so why can’t Pena? They are very similar hitters, after all.

Do you ever not wake up on the wrong side of the bed?

by FuquaManuel on Oct 26, 2008 1:04 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I only have one side I can wake up on. You are implying I am somehow not in a good mood. You are the one who took the shot on Howard. People who wake up on the wrong side of bed shouldn’t throw pillows.

I think you read my comments and see what you want to see. It was not a shot as Howard, it was a comment on the ability of Dodgers pitchers to shut him down to make the point that it is possible for a pitching staff to stuff a good hitter for an entire series. I don’t want to argue with you though, because it is likely you will find some way to ban me if this goes any further.

All I can say is try moving your bed away from the wall.

Odds on Dobbs getting the start?

Almost a lock, right? I think Dobbs pretty much always starts when Blanton starts, unless the other team is starting a lefty.

by SethC on Oct 26, 2008 1:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This seems to be a great spot to start Dobbs. Dobbs is a free swinger who hits strikes very well. If Feliz starts, Charlie has to hope that the players bail him out again.

Yes. Very much so. They need to keep feeding the ball to Westbrook. Good things generally happen when they do that.

Get Curtis involved. He’s probably dying to get some yards on the board.

Kudos to Moyer -- Comes through in his biggest outing at 45 !

You’ve got to give credit to Jamie Moyer, even under last night’s conditions, to be able to stay focused and pitch well. Not many players get to say they turned in their most important performance at 45!

Bring it home, Phils !

by SarconesDeli on Oct 26, 2008 2:33 PM EDT   0 recs

I am pissed Hallion took away probably the play that the Moyer clan could have shown at parties for the rest of their lives.

Btw, the little skip move by McNabb on Abraham when he was completely behind him was about as good as it gets.

Not such a fan of Desean Jackson. I love good skill, but really bad decision making in this dude. McNabb hit him with a pass to the line at the end of the 2nd and he kinda slowed down for an inexplicable reason before he hit the sideline. That could have been a precious second with 9 remaining.

With age comes wisdom, i’d rather have a guy with talent and skill who can learn wisdom than a guy with wisdom who lacks the talent and skill.

by jemagee on Oct 26, 2008 3:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

To a degree. I think there are certain players who’s immaturity undermines their skill. I want to be wrong about him.

I think it’s too early to determine the impact of Desean Jacksons immaturity…I worry about guys who have lots of off field issues (has Jackson had any yet) more than about guys who make a rookie mistake when they haven’t played half an NFL season yet.

If Jackson does the ‘dallas touchdown mistake’ again – then i’ll be concerned. I don’t get a lot of eagles games, so i depend on reading BSG for what’s going on but it seems that Jackson has been a pleasant surprise actually based on the ‘national’ expectations of him and I hope that the things he’s doing are just the mistakes of a rookie in the NFL and I’ve not seen anything yet to indicate that they aren’t fixable as opposed to PacMan Jones like issues.

by jemagee on Oct 26, 2008 3:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

What is BSG? I keep seeing that, but I don’t know what it means.

A web forum that has (to me) the most balanced and informed conversation regarding Philadlephia Sports without the rampant juvenility and idiocy of another site…it’s mostly baseball and football but they don’t ignore basketball.

I got banned there :) Course I got banned at the other place too…though it seems jonk (if he is who i think he is) seems to have joined me in that distinction…i think for a time i was the only one to enjoy that duet.

by jemagee on Oct 26, 2008 3:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

what are the sites though? links?

by FuquaManuel on Oct 26, 2008 3:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Um, I purposely didn’t give the link, stupid but don’t feel right since they banned me…many of the people who write here post or posted there – i’ll leave it to one of them.

He sort of strikes me as the Eagles equivalent of a Lonnie Smith/Juan Samuel hybrid. Exciting young talent who you hope has >$.05 head. Remains to be seen if he will go the Rollins route or the T.O. route to fame.

Well, now I really don’t want to buy a guitar hero game…risky business schtick with Kobe, A-rod (I think), Phelps and Hawk?

Come on – two of those guys aren’t even relevant any more (phelps is only relevant every 4 years anyway for a 2 week period, then who cares?)
