Scott Kazmir vs Cole Hamels

Complete Coverage >

It's been 28 years since the Phillies played a World Series clinching game.  Of course, we all know what happened that glorious evening.  And we hope for the same tonight.

They could hardly have asked for a better alignment of circumstances -- in their home park, with lefty ace Cole Hamels on the mound, on full rest.  Of course it's baseball, and anything can happen, but you're a hardened pessimist if you're not at least cautiously optimistic right now...

One more game.  27 outs.  Finish it.

Hey Phillies…uh…I know I have been asking for a lot lately, but could you guys do me a solid and back Cole up with about 8 runs tonight? I’ll be your best friend…

Meanwhile, Cole, can you just do your thing tonight? Thanks.

Signed,

FuquaManuel

by jemagee on Oct 27, 2008 9:21 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

…that show that a runner is allowed to overrun 1B?

by boteman on Oct 27, 2008 9:23 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nope, about the benefits of sliding, enver read them, know they are out there – only a couple months old

by jemagee on Oct 27, 2008 9:25 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The instant that the batter-runner stops applying thrust via his legs he starts to slow down. Sliding across the dirt only decelerates him faster. You run as fast as you can to 1B no matter what, including Carl Crawford.

The laws of physics still apply.

Bartlett definitely should not be this tough an out. Gad dang.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 27, 2008 9:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This one reeks of “must find something to complain about.”

Think Eckstein. Bartlett’s that player, but probably more talented.

by dajafi on Oct 27, 2008 9:15 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think he isn’t throwing that many—McCarver puts it on the weather, but for whatever reason, it’s been mostly fastballs that I’ve seen.

by dajafi on Oct 27, 2008 9:14 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wheeler concurs—lots of fastballs.

by Alex Falzone on Oct 27, 2008 9:15 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by FuquaManuel on Oct 27, 2008 9:17 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I was about to come in here and post he was throwing a no hitter

Just to break it up but right as I was joining Aki got a hit.

Now I will post at least the shut out is still intact.

Not trolling …

As a matter of fact I believe it will stay intact.

Great Series as a Rays fan I am just grateful we made it this far. Enjoy your World Series championship Philly the long suffering fans have earned it. Burn a cop car for me.

I think Howard had just acclimated his bat speed to the breaking stuff, and now here’s Kazmir firing mid-90s heat at him.
