Get Lowe: NLCS Game One Thread: Dodgers at Phillies

Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies, Oct 9, 2008 8:22 PM EDT

Next Game

Los Angeles Dodgers
@ Philadelphia Phillies

Citizens Bank Park

Derek Lowe vs Cole Hamels

Mostly clear. Winds blowing out to right field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 70.

Complete Coverage >

It's been a long time for both teams -- 15 for Philly, 20 for L.A. -- but the 2008 NLCS begins tonight in South Philadelphia at Citizen's Bank Park.  Lefty ace Cole Hamels faces off against postseasonmainstay Derek Lowe.

Forecasts, predictions, projections, hunches, all out the window.

Sinkerballer Lowe generally does a good job keeping balls in the park.  Hamels, with his great control, allowed baserunners at the best rate in the league this season.  It's a great matchup of two terrific pitchers with very different styles.

Get Cole a lead early.

GO PHILLIES!!!

This is really mind boggling. When Utley and Howard are up in a key spot and they bring in Beimel or Kuo to face them both I might blow a gasket.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 9, 2008 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s not that the lefties facing both Howard and Utley, that would happen either way. It’s Werth or Burrell not having a crack at them in between.

8:37 — Harry Kalas brings the world a starting lineup, which gives me a new idea for the playoffs. FOX should simulcast the games on FX or FSN, but with the home team’s announcer doing the call instead of Joe Buck. It’s all about choice.

Apparently Phillies fans know where Madson lives. So that should serve as motivation for him.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 9, 2008 10:37 PM EDT reply actions

They should have brought Romero in for Ethier methinks.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 9, 2008 10:37 PM EDT reply actions

anyone know if you can get stats for how lidge does when he comes in with a 1 2 3 etc run lead?

by phils11 on Oct 9, 2008 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

nevermind.. found it on b-r

by phils11 on Oct 9, 2008 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions

gotta like how that sets up lidge to be facing 6 7 8 9

by phils11 on Oct 9, 2008 10:44 PM EDT reply actions

Lidge still has to face some really good hitters. I would be thrilled with even a single measly run.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 9, 2008 10:44 PM EDT reply actions

Kuo vs. 2 lefties in a row. Be prepared for a laugher from Howard.

This was much better than rooting for the Cubs to beat the Dodgers.

Travis Denker can hit a little. That's why I drive his bus. Not much about baseball here .

Did ya hear?

The Phillies can’t beat the Dodgers if they keep relying on the longball.

The Phillies can’t beat the Dodgers if they keep scoring all their runs in one inning per game.
