Phils sign RH reliever Mike Koplove

Right-handed relief pitcher and 1995 Chestnut Hill Academy alum Mike Koplove has reportedly agreed to terms with the Phillies.

The sidearming middle reliever doesn't strike out a lot of batters, walks a few too many, but has historically done a good job keeping the ball in the park in a pretty good hitters' park in Arizona.

If this move is part and parcel of a bullpen construction strategy that involves moving fungible arms in and out of the mix and seeing what works, then great.  But if it's predicated on some kind of feel-good hometown boy storyline construction, then boo.  Jury's out.  It appears to be a minor league deal so there's not that much money involved.
