WBC filled with Phils?
Do I get sent to Gitmo if I point out that sending Cole Hamels to pitch in high-stress international competition in March, just months after throwing 260 innings (season plus playoffs) in 2008, might not be the best idea?

Anybody know what happened to dajafi?
Don’t worry, Obama is going to close down Gitmo — you’ll be released sometime next year.
The key word in that article is “could” and the source seems to be pure speculation. Given Cole’s ardent interest in preserving his health, I don’t see him participating.
I hope you’re right. But there’s probably a conflict between “preserving his health” and “wanting high-profile glory.” Both impulses are admirable in the abstract, but I’m a selfish guy… I only want his glory to come for the Phils. I hate the damn WBC.
If it came out that Amaro was publicly supportive of Hamels competing, but privately told him that if he does, forget about getting a long-term deal this winter, that would erase a big chunk of my loathing for the new GM.
Is the WBC really high profile glory? I mean the US isn’t even the favorite to win this year either are they?

I was thinking the same thing when I initially read this, Hamels seems to be nothing if not a self-preservationist. Hopefully he politely declines an invitation, if he (presumably) gets one.
dajafi, got anyone to come press their chest against the wire in the GITMO visiting room, a la Midnight Express? phatj tells me he’s interested in the job. “OHHHH DAJAFI!!!”
