I think I am about to go out on top...
I am inching closer to retiring from baseball. The Phillies won the World Series despite themselves. What more can I possibly ask for. They let Pat Burrell go and then sign a worse version who is left handed. Do I need to deal with this stress anymore? No. We won, I got it in my hip pocket. And now I got one foot out the door.

You’ll never be able to do it. It seems possible during the cold winter, but come spring it’ll get its hooks back into you.
When I moved to Arizona, I thought, “Oh, I’ll just become a D-Backs fan.” Despite winning the World Series when I lived there, and while I became fond of the Snakes, I was never able to let them go.
Take a break.

It was ok to deal with this idiocity before, because I didn’t have a championship. The Phillies were in control. I needed to watch to just get that one. Now that they have it, what need to watch do I have anymore? This is like her telling me it was too quick and she wants to cuddle. I don’t need to cuddle. I just want to roll over and go to sleep!
For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?

I have a championship and the woman i love is a life long red sox fan – if the phils continue this madness in the off season i’m seriously considering a switch

I’ve had this thought too, with the related fear that now that I have a sense of what it’s like at the summit, the valley’s gonna stink even more… but I suspect WC is right and I wouldn’t be able to keep my eyes averted, even if they go back to 2000-era stinkage.

thegoodphight: An unofficial blog for people who loved the Phillies but were turned to apostates by 1 short month of Reuben Amaro Jr.
At least Wade built a good farm system. This guy is dropping draft picks like they are hot.

I tried it once, with the sixers, living in california i had a few teams to choose from and just couldn’t do it – they’ll pull you back in – it’s inevitable – unless you give up sports completely

Wow
Some of you really are crazy. You either need another hobby or therapy. If you can’t be happy now you never will be unless you get some help. You’ve created an imaginary world in which your principles about how a baseball team is run is more important than the baseball games themselves. Go ahead and start rooting for one of the teams with a front office that never makes any dumb moves. I’m sure there are plenty of those out there.

No, I don’t think there is, the way a baseball team is run translates directly into whether they win or lose…which is why the red sox win more games than the phillies year in and year out – they are run better.
