Philadelphia lawyer, author of law review note on infield-fly rule, dead at 60

This may only be of significant interest to law-talkin' guys like myself.  Nonetheless...

William S. Stevens, the University of Pennsylvania Law School alum who wrote the famous law review note comparing the evolution of the common law with that of baseball's infield fly rule, has died of a heart attack at age 60.

Our condolences to his friends and family.

Definitely of limited interest

But, as a fellow law-talkin’ guy, I’m part of that limited group. I enjoyed the hell out of reading his note when it was assigned to us during the first week of law school because, well it wasn’t Pierson v Post. It was actually interesting.

Sorry to hear of his passing, and condolences to his family and friends.

'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'

I only got Hawkins v. McGee my first week of law school. I hadn’t heard about that note yet, but I’ll certainly have to check it out.

Condolences to Mr. Stevens’ family.

Cite

Hey, visiting Mariner fan just seeing what you guys thought of Ibanez, but also a “law-talkin’ guy.”

Sounds like an interesting read, does anyone have a cite to the note?

Please conform your response to blue book style guidelines. :)

Forgotten my BlueBook citations

Cos I’ve been using the New York Tan Book exclusively for the past two years, but your cite is at:

Note: The Common Law Origins of the Infield Fly Rule, 123 U. Pa. L. Rev. 1474 (1975).
