The Astros evidently have released 41 year old starter Woody Williams. mlbtraderumors writes:

It's good to see Ed Wade looking at Williams as a sunk cost, opting for a better pitcher in Chris Sampson.

Well, better late than never. But that doesn't change the fact that if this revelation had come a little sooner--Jose Mesa in 2003, Larry Bowa in 2004, David Bell in 2005--the Phils might have reached the playoffs a little sooner than they did.

(And no, I'll never get off Ed Wade's case.)
