P-Pravda Mad Libs?

This isn't a big deal, I just thought it was funny. From a phillies.com story on Kris Benson:

Since being selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Pirates in the 1996 First-Year Player Draft, the former Clemson University star has been trying to [x find a certain semblance of success] [live up to the high expectations]. Health problems, though, have prevented Benson from reaching and maintaining [x some form of] [his desired level of] consistency.

Maybe an editor just pushed "SUBMIT" a few minutes too soon. I've been there, man...

Haha. This reminds of the time one of my college acquaintances got a job rejection letter that began with "Dear [First Name]:"

Re: P-Pravda Mad Libs?
This obviously isn't relevant to this thread but I just thought it should be known that Adam Eaton got shelled again in a ST game today.

He is making the decision really easy for Cholly I guess.

Re: P-Pravda Mad Libs?
Thought I read somewhere that Cholly has been saying Eaton's back is acting up. Did you hear anything about that, FM?

Otherwise, you know what I want to see them do... even with Benson evidently coming along well. But I bet it's Blackley to start the year, and Benson in May. Not necessarily the worst thing, except that, per the poll I posted yesterday, I think they're going to need more reinforcements.

Re: P-Pravda Mad Libs?
I haven't heard anything about Eaton's back actually. Frankly, I wouldn't even want him near the rotation if he was completely healthy - and he will never be completely healthy. So...

I am with you on signing Lohse. Can it even really be called an "insurance policy" if you know certainly that you are going to need him down the road? The front office must be absolutely delusional if they think the hacks that we have fighting for the #5 spot will be able to get it done. Then again, this front office did give Adam Eaton $24.5 million.

Re: P-Pravda Mad Libs?
Unfortunately, I think it would take you, me and several thousand of our phellow phans to sign Lohse, in that we'd be paying for it because the team has reached its self-imposed budget ceiling. Maybe they should allow fans to "sponsor" players.

Re: P-Pravda Mad Libs?
Maybe a pledge drive? Like on PBS?

There's a part of me that would like to see Blackley get a chance. I know that's risky though.

Re: P-Pravda Mad Libs?
This could work.  If 43,647 fans (max attendance at CBP) all donated $114.56 the Phils could sign Lohse to a one year, 5 million dollar contract.  What is another 115 bucks, that is less than taking the family to a single game.  I may be young and poor, but I would definitely find a way to scrape together 115 dollars if it meant not seeing Eaton/Durbin/DurbinVII on the Phils.  In all seriousness though, I honestly believe that Charlie has Blackely ticketed for that 5th spot.  Charlie may not be a great tactician, but he has never been afraid to sit the under performing, big-contract vet in favor of the younger, more productive player.  Also, I think the Phils are so smitten with themselves over the cheap signing of Benson, that they will ride out the atrocity that may be our rotation until he is healthy.

Re: P-Pravda Mad Libs?
On another, more encouraging note; Ryan Howard continues to rake this spring.

Perhaps the big arbitration ruling put some wind into his (very large) sails. Or perhaps he is just in better shape this year.

Re: P-Pravda Mad Libs?
Yeah, I'm pretty psyched about Howard's performance so far this spring. Reminds me a little bit of what he did in the Grapefruit League two years ago. That turned out pretty well.

Re: P-Pravda Mad Libs?
I find that fans usually place a great deal of importance on Grapefruit League games when certain players are performing well.  However, when other players are struggling, fans seem to shrug it off and say it is only the Grapefruit League.  For example, Howard is smokin' the ball and everyone is getting very excited.  However, Rollins couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat right now, but nobody seems to take notice.  Now, there are obvious exceptions to this rule, just take a quick look at the Antichrist, also known as Adam Eaton.  Eaton is struggling terribly, however, everyone is jumping to the conclusion that he will never be productive again.  Perhaps this is just because it is fashionable to dislike Eaton at the moment.  If anyone needs an ice bath to temper Howard expectations, just look at Taguchi, Bruntlett, Golson, King, Smith and Watson.
