Phils sign Kline to minor-league deal
This move has been anticipated since the end of spring training, when the Giants cut the veteran lefty. Kline was lousy in 2007, with a 94+ ERA, but that season ended a streak of nine straight years in which his performance was better than league average. The Mets bullpen last night showed the advantages of having two lefties; when Ryan Madson is at full strength, he handles portside hitters well, but right now he's not, and at any rate Madson's role is as a multiple-inning reliever.
Kline will start with horrible triple-A team Lehigh Valley, and likely would be the first reliever recalled in the event of an injury or after he proves himself effective.

Bad blood
I wonder if there's still bad blood between him and Jimmy Rollins? (I'm thinking of the right reliever, right?)
He and Seanez are two guys I've always been shocked haven't ever been on the Phillies. Now they are!

yeah
I was curious about that as well. Pretty sure that was Kline. But if I'm remembering it right, that was 2001 or so; surely they've faced off since then, and Rollins now isn't a cocky kid but a multiple all-star and defending MVP. So I'm guessing it's cool.
As for us having Kline and Traction Action, one can only imagine that Ed Wade is boiling with envy.
