Game Two: Redding vs. Hamels
Washington @ Philadelphia
King Cole takes the hill against one-time Houston hurler Tim Redding. Geoff Jenkins likely will get his first Phillies start tonight; maybe he'll even hit ahead of Pedro Feliz, who more than met expectations in the six-hole with two strikeouts and a GIDP in his 0-4 debut Monday.

oh boy...
A hit and two walks, and suddenly the bases are loaded for LoDuca. I'll probably barf if that a-hole beats them.

Redding
This mutt Redding seems like the type to shut the Phils down, just a bad feeling.

Going to A.C. tomorrow...
See if this is the start of a streak or something.

it's april. anyone could shut the phils down. If Redding does well, it will further illustrate that point.

yum!
Redding with the 3.19 career ERA vs. the Phillies, in 36 2/3 innings.
Chase works the count full...

Zimmy
That was neat, Zimmerman just about took the railing in his nuts going for that foul pop.

"the other way"
Howard seems to be going the other way a lot more this year, which he didn't do as much last year.
by WholeCamels on Apr 2, 2008 7:23 PM EDT 0 recs
there's a K...hopefully the first of more than 200!

Sutton and Carpenter
On MASN they're "surprised" Hamels is throwing his change-up. Do they do any research at all?
Belliard Ks on a high fastball.

P hit
Redding grounds one up the middle for a hit. Lover of mother, these pitchers...
by WholeCamels on Apr 2, 2008 7:29 PM EDT 0 recs
ugh
It's scoreless as I tune in for the bottom of the 2nd, but it feels like they're losing somehow.
by dajafi on Apr 2, 2008 7:34 PM EDT 0 recs
If you are keeping score based on hits or how bad a team has looked thus far, then the phils are indeed losing.

It's Pat
Burrell's first pitch pop-up to right was especially out of character and concerning.

cole's settling in. being more economical. 7 innings would be nice.

shutup, there's a ballgame on...
I hated Tom McCarthy when he was with the broadcast team a few years ago. Then I heard him doing Mets games and came around on him a little. Now he's the "roving reporter," and it's not so much that I hate him as that I despise the whole concept of what he's doing with every fiber of my being.
I mean, God bless Sixers point guard Andre Miller. BUT THERE'S A FRIGGING GAME GOING ON.

For crying out loud...
That's just some bad luck.

It bears repeating
Pedro Feliz has the Phillies only hit through three innings against Tim Redding.
by WholeCamels on Apr 2, 2008 7:49 PM EDT 0 recs
jeez. they have hit some lasers off of cole tonight. luckily they have been right at people.

post-game
If I'm Cole Hamels, I'm kicking the entire starting lineup in their taints after the game tonight.

well, that should hold up. 1-0. I have homework to do.

not to make excuses, but...
Seriously, why do we start at home every year? It's freakin' cold. Unpleasant for fans, unpleasant for players... and we apparently stink on ice, by unwritten law, until sometime between April 15 and May 15 anyway.
Zimmerman with a wind-aided homer.
by dajafi on Apr 2, 2008 8:20 PM EDT 0 recs
Have to admit...
Feliz looks awfully nice at third base so far...
by WholeCamels on Apr 2, 2008 8:25 PM EDT 0 recs
amazing
Every year, I get super-psyched for the start of the season. And every year, within 72 hours at most after that first pitch, it feels like I've been kicked in the gut.
by dajafi on Apr 2, 2008 8:32 PM EDT 0 recs
Idea
Manuel should rip Shane Victorino's heart right out of his ribcage after the game and eat it in front of the entire team. As motivation!
by WholeCamels on Apr 2, 2008 8:36 PM EDT 0 recs
that
was ass. Two laser shots around a walk: lineout, double play.
Maybe it's not our night... but damn, it stings to lose any game where we get pitching as good as what Cole has done.
by dajafi on Apr 2, 2008 8:44 PM EDT 0 recs
Cole done
Can't ask for any more than eight innings, one run.
RUSH HIM TO THE CHIROPRACTOR. STAT!

man
How often do you get 1-6-3 and 5-6-4 groundouts in the same game?
Inept and unlucky is a bad combination.
by dajafi on Apr 2, 2008 9:02 PM EDT 0 recs
Gordo? Huh?
Who pitches now? Is it safe to expect a seven run deficit for bottom 9th?
by WholeCamels on Apr 2, 2008 9:04 PM EDT 0 recs
Feliz
Okay, much as it looks like he'll be the whipping boy 'round these parts, the dude can field.

by WholeCamels on Apr 2, 2008 9:19 PM EDT 0 recs
maddening
This is some of the most inconsistent ball-strike umpiring in the history of the sport.
