What lame headins I used, but, I can't change it now.  Probably our best starting lineup (though I'd use a different order) with Rollins and Victorino out.  Who here doesn't feel that this is a must win just for our own sanity?

Eaton Ks Reyes. Rofl, Morgan said that’s what Eaton will do when he is ahead in the count. What complete and utter nonsense.

Eaton looking sharp again through 3.

Bruntlett, meanwhile, is somehow worse than Nunez. Who knew this was possible?

Pat with more heart than brains there. He should know better getting thrown out at second. I think Steve Smith is in his head.

Yeah, that was an annoying inning with the three hits, no runs.

Eaton’s holding it up through 5, though. His pitches are sharp and his control has been fantastic. Would love to see him get the victory here.

Well, that got terribly unpleasant very quickly.

Triple, single, double, single, and it’s 4-3 with nobody out, and Eaton’s night is over.

You know Howard is not seeing the ball well because after nearly every K, he stands in the box for a second, leans back, and does that eye rolling thing—even on pitches that are clearly strikes.

Something tells me they will regret taking Burrell out of this game in the 7th – as they often do.

This is looking bad. I think Lidge is gonna blow this.

by FuquaManuel on Apr 20, 2008 11:16 PM EDT reply reply   0 recs

Gotta admit, I kind of flipped on and off for the 9th inning, and I had the sound down. But I saw the last two outs. For all I’ve ripped on Bruntlett, he made a hell of a play to save that game.

Badly needed win, for peace of mind as well as the obvious standings/division-based reasons.

Good game overall when you think of it. Would have been nice to keep a 4-0 win, but sometimes it is good to let the other team come back and get a demoralizing loss like we so often seem to have. Lidge HAS to trust his stuff more and throw more strikes. Howard gets a day off from all the moron who rip on him because of his defense because he made two great defensive plays in the 9th and a couple other good ones over the night.

agreed. now if only he could get that BA over the mendoza line.

I love me some Howard but

his defense is hit or miss at best and I don’t think the critics are being entirely moronic here. Yeah, he looked great on Sunday night on live national TV in the late innings – and they were genuine good plays, catching tricky foul pops in a swirling wind and snaring a hard hit, short hop ball – but there have been a number of ‘errors’ to the middle infield this year that wouldn’t have been if Howard had snared the throws, and most major league 1Bmen would have. Not Delgado, certainly; maybe not Giambi; probably not Big Papi if the Red Sox are playing interleague. But most big league first basemen.
