Extend Burrell
I know it was just last year when i was booing every at bat of burrell but this year is nuts! hes leading the league in RBI and hitting over .300. I hope its not just another contract year breakout but i think we need to resign him asap. he has said many times he loves philly and would never waive his no trade clause no matter who we tried to trade him too. seems like he loves it here and if we try to sign him now to another long term deal we might ge thim cheaper than if we need to fight for him as a free agent. and honestly, we need him. we have no solid left fielders in the system and especially no one that can replace 100 RBI per year. thoughts?

I would like to sign Burrell to an extension. However, what are you going to think when you and 95 percent of Philly fans are booing him again in a month’s time? Just sayin’...
thats kinda the point...
we know he is gonna get 100 rbi no matter what its just gonna be his k’s. if we can resign him now for cheaper, hes gonna be better than whatever else we will have for the price. so if he slacks off again, at least we wont be paying a fortune for him.
100 RBI?
TJ Bohn could get 100 RBI batting 5th in the Phillies offense.
what?!?!
he didnt even have 30 in the minors last year. from what i know of bohn, hes not that good and not gonna be that good.
First of all...
...that was hyperbole.
But secondly, Bohn only played 80 games in the minors last year, with mediocre offensive teams. I don’t know where in the order he typically hit but it’s safe to say it wasn’t often 5th.
Anyway, my point was more about how useless RBI is in player evaluation. Almost anyone could get 100 batting behind a bunch of guys who get on base as well as the Phillies top of the order does.
i understand...
i know that rbi alone is useless but burrell is raking this year. he is slugging high and his ops is crazy. he is doing so well and i think that we dont have anyone or would be tough to get someone to replace his numbers.
April
I think there’s generally a good reason teams don’t re-sign veterans to long-term deals in April.
That said, I also think pretty much all of us want to see Burrell back next season and beyond. If he’s still looking good in June, I really hope they do the smart thing and try to get him at some hometown-discount rate.
