Game 39: Eaton vs. Sanchez

Philadelphia Phillies at San Francisco Giants, May 11, 2008 4:05 PM EDT

The Phils head into the rubber game for this series in San Francisco and the seven-game swing out West after reportedly getting hammered by the Giants and young ace Tim Lincecum yesterday. Adam Eaton tries to shore up his job security today after taking the loss in Arizona Tuesday night. Eaton's seasonal ERA has risen after all but one of his starts in 2008, and now sits at 5.63. He hasn't fared very well against the Giants, with a 3-6 lifetime mark and 5.34 ERA that includes a gruesome 11.57 ERA in his last four games facing San Fran. Lefty Jonathan Sanchez, who's notched 44 strikeouts in 38 innings this season, goes for the Giants.

Victorino and Howard

Now 3 for his last 20….Howard 3 for his last 22. Is this considered a slump? Old Charlie will stick with them though but loyality only goes so far with me.

Jim-Me

Couldn’t lay off ball 4 with them loaded, pops out. Maybe pressing trying to impress his folks…lack of maturity…shame.

Eaton just makes me sick.

Is he just outta shape? I have no hope of a win when it’s his turn to attempt to pitch.

Nice—first pitch I see, Phils take the lead.

How did Ryan Howard manage a triple? Someone fall down?

Man, Eaton sucks. Even when he has some success, you can still tell he just suh-hucks.

Hits Molina on the first pitch of the 6th inning. Let’s hope somebody’s warming.

Now Rowand doubles. Second and third, no outs.

Just a little predictable?

Durbin was up last inning.

Eaton has turned to shit after his first 3 starts and I really think if he blows today it’s time to put Durbin in the rotation and make a phantom DL reason for sending Eaton to the bench.

BTW

‘Twas stoopid to let him hit in the top of the 6th.

First pitch from Durbin plunks Bowker. Loaded now.

Well, that was unexpected: first pitch, line drive to Howard, steps on first, two outs, no runs.

Weird game: Castillo has hit into three double plays, Vizquel has walked three times.

Durbin takes off his fireman’s helmet in triumph after striking out Durham. Nice work.

Victorino singles ! Yes folks that .223 hitter.

Romero blows the lead in the 7th: two outs, single, two-run homer.

Well for the most part he has been so money so this was expected at some point. Gotta blame this on the offensive offense.

Well, this one is over. Bullpen falls apart. Hopefully not a harbinger of things to come.

They need to start hitting at some point. Utley, Howard and Burrell are all badly scuffling right now.

by dajafi on May 11, 2008 6:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You knew what would happen when Utley and Burrell cooled off, I agree it’s happening. Counting on Ruiz, Jenkins etc to carry the offense is like a 2-7 road trip..it ain’t gonna happen.

Charlie has to I repeat has to shake this team up, starting with his fair haired child. It’s a effing joke having your clean up hitter batting a dismal .171.
