May 15, 2008: James vs. Hamels

Atlanta @ Philadelphia

We're back after an unplanned interruption last night for the rubber game of this Braves series. Rumor has it that Larry Jones Jr. is out of the lineup for Atlanta, which is probably something of a relief for Cole Hamels.

The Phils are going for their first series win of the season against an NL East opponent.

Happy Pete seems to have just homered before I turned it on.

Fay-leez with a solo home run, 1-0 Phils

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 7:37 PM EDT   0 recs

pantload of baserunners

It’d be nice to pick up one more run here…

Predictatron: Vic pops up on first pitch

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 7:40 PM EDT   0 recs

wrong

ok but how does Vic ground into a DP? ughhhhhh

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 7:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I think he was trying. Seriously, half-swing grounder right at the shortstop?

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 7:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah, we’re still up

by Sorry About Dresden on May 15, 2008 7:45 PM EDT   0 recs

Escobar

Would Chris Berman call him “Pablo”?

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 7:46 PM EDT   0 recs

MAJOR POPO

2-0 Phils

Howard back on track?

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 7:53 PM EDT   0 recs

Here he comes. Not jumping at the ball, and not pulling that one.

Stayed on it and crushed it.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 7:54 PM EDT   0 recs

yup

That HR was classic Howard: looks like a deep fly off the bat but just keeps going, and going, and going…

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 7:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Suddenly Howard is showing signs of breaking out of the slump. This is a very good thing.

by FuquaManuel on May 15, 2008 7:54 PM EDT   0 recs

"suddenly"

7 game hitting streak?

Not to split semantic hairs, but he’s been looking much better for the better part of this week.

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 7:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yes, but in the context of what has been a 40 game season to this point, for him to have started hitting in the last 7 games is pretty sudden.

But you are correct, by suddenly I mean “over the last week or so.”

fay-leez

anudder RBI

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 8:00 PM EDT   0 recs

I enjoyed that the broadcast flashed “HOME RUN” right as it bounced off the top of the wall.

Whatever—Happy’s got a career game going…

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 8:04 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

knock on wood

Feliz has one of the best third base arms I’ve ever seen

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 8:03 PM EDT   0 recs

53 pitches through 4 IP for Hamels. He’s got everything working tonight.

Braves lineup looks a lot less scary without Larry Jr.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 8:07 PM EDT   0 recs

walk?

Jimmy’s second (unintentional) walk this season?

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 8:09 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah, I was probably more psyched about that than Victorino’s HR.

I started putting together some numbers last night looking at Phils hitters’ walk rates this season compared to their career norms. Rollins is the furthest down, but he’s not the only one.

Meanwhile, Hamels=awesome.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 8:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

sugar shane goes yard…I could get used to this.

by FuquaManuel on May 15, 2008 8:12 PM EDT   0 recs

GIDP

Would it be wrong to slag Feliz for that double play?

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 8:25 PM EDT   0 recs

Feliz…oh Feliz. You ruined it.

by FuquaManuel on May 15, 2008 8:25 PM EDT   0 recs

Feliz reverts to form

6-4-3 DP. Gotta go with what you know…

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 8:25 PM EDT   0 recs

I love 1 pitch at bats.

by FuquaManuel on May 15, 2008 8:27 PM EDT   0 recs

He looked safe to me

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 8:38 PM EDT   0 recs

Assuming he maintains this pace…do you let cole go all 9?

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 8:46 PM EDT   0 recs

sure

but cap him at 110 pitches

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 8:50 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

So i was watching the ‘pitch/fx’ version of the game at work…how accurate is the ‘pitch location’ version of that sucker, cause if accurate, ump has some consistency issues he should work on

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 8:51 PM EDT   0 recs

pull the plug

He’s getting tired

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 9:05 PM EDT   0 recs

Yup. Still throwing hard, but the command is spotty all the sudden. And he’s at 105 pitches.

Get this guy and then grab the icepack.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 9:06 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

the 9th inning is taylor made for clay condre

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:06 PM EDT   0 recs

I say Durbin. Lead isn’t quite big enough for Clay…

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 9:08 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

except, you know, might actually need durbin sometime soon…don’t ever need condrey.

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:09 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

ps…let cole hit though :)

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:09 PM EDT   0 recs

I really hope this AB is just for poo and giggles…

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 9:10 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You new to being a phillies fan? Cole says he can pitch, they believe him, and it’s a shut out, he’ll come out for the 9th and throw too many pitches…

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

bad jimmy

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:12 PM EDT   0 recs

Which one of you was the guy who fell at last nights game?

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:14 PM EDT   0 recs

I strenuously object

To Cole Hamels pitching the 9th.

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 9:15 PM EDT   0 recs

How do you feel about Lidge being the pitcher warming?

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah. This has bad news written all over it.

by FuquaManuel on May 15, 2008 9:16 PM EDT   0 recs

This is making my stomach hurt. Maybe we’re overreacting and it’ll be fine, but this is so unnecessary… and there’s the infield single for Schmucko.

Okay, time to go.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 9:17 PM EDT   0 recs

well jimmy helped

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:18 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Harry...

Just pooped in his Depends there.

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 9:18 PM EDT   0 recs

Harry makes me laugh.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 9:18 PM EDT   0 recs

Heck, the comcast sportsnet folks were confused…took em until the 2-2 count to get the ‘yellow box’ off of first base

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

K!

4 hitter

(alright, that was kind of cool anyway….)

by WholeCamels on May 15, 2008 9:20 PM EDT   0 recs

Done and done. There’s your shutout, Cole.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 9:20 PM EDT   0 recs

Good Hamels got a complete game shut out…it’s a good thing there’s an extra day of rest between now and his next outing….oh wait, you mean there’s not…and letting him pitch the 9th probably was silly in the long term of things?

Oh crap

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:20 PM EDT   0 recs

120 pitches exactly. Okay, that’s probably something I can live with.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 9:21 PM EDT   0 recs

Who has the ‘you know’ post game counter tonight?

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:21 PM EDT   0 recs

Cole y'know count

four… five… six… pause.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 9:22 PM EDT   0 recs

y'know II

one… two… three… four… five… six… seven… eight… wow.

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 9:22 PM EDT   0 recs

It’s not really y’know—more like “y’euw”

by dajafi on May 15, 2008 9:23 PM EDT   0 recs

He really has to work on his cliches…i mean chris coste is like the living emobdiment of crash isn’t he?

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:24 PM EDT   0 recs

Series against the blue jays should be interesting

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:28 PM EDT   0 recs

The mets don’t have an ‘every day player with fire in his eyes’ – i think linda cohn got stupid.

Which phillies player has fire in his eyes….and what do you get for selling your soul to the devil?

by jemagee on May 15, 2008 9:41 PM EDT   0 recs

I am just wondering what 120 pitches did that 108 couldn’t have done other than put more stress on his young arm. Until baseball starts ignoring personal accomplishments and focus solely on playing well, they will continue to ruin young careers and ultimately water down the skill in MLB.

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?
