May 19: Myers vs. Redding

Philadelphia Phillies @ Washington Nationals

Is tonight the night Brett Myers finds his mojo? Will Tim Redding throttle the Phillies again as he did in a 1-0 victory back in early April? The answers to these and other questions not immediately occurring to me will be revealed in tonight's game, joined in progress...

Phils leave two on base in the first, continuing yesterday’s jerkassery.

Myers retires Lopez after an 11-pitch at-bat.

Zimmerman doubles on an 0-2 pitch. Second and third.

Son of a bitch. And these Nationals announcers might be the worst east of Phoenix.

Washington gets a run on the sac fly, essentially because the Phillies fielders suck. Victorino catches the shallow fly, throws to second to try and get Zimmerman, then Rollins made a terrible throw to the plate just too late to get Cristian Guzman. 1-0.

Myers turning into Kendrick—he’s gotten strike two on everyone, and can’t put anyone away.

Inning over as Milledge flies out.

25 pitch inning, FB 87-89, changeups around 85. My way of thinking that isn’t much deception.

BTW Dajafi

Thanks for the research on our prospects, I appreciate all your involvement.

by Steve-O- on May 19, 2008 7:39 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Jenkins

Doubles…but he still sucks. No outs…

by Steve-O- on May 19, 2008 7:41 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No prob. I like to follow the prospects.

Jenkins doubles to start the 2nd. I didn’t see the first, but apparently the Phils hit a few balls hard. Maybe they’ll do better against Redding tonight than in the second game of the season.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 7:41 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Vic and Utley singles, Howard with a K for 2 outs and Burrell a smash to third of which Zimmerman made a web gem…great play.

In that game I think we had 2 hits in 6 innings. Interesting stat in the East he is 13-6 in the west he’s 0-13…crazy stat huh?

by Steve-O- on May 19, 2008 7:43 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I’m about 50-50 on mute on/off. This team actually might be as bad as Arizona’s.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 7:47 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

they do suffer the suckage….thankfully i missed them and this game AND got work to pay for some summer edimication….double bonus…i think arizonas crew is worse, mark graces absolutely hatred of all statistics you need to think about for even a millisecond takes the joe morgan cake

Myers gives up a double to Flores (who I remember singlehandedly beat us at least once last year) on another 0-2 pitch.

He really is a freakin’ idiot.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 7:51 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He also is getting NO calls, though to be fair Redding isn’t either.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 7:52 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As long as he’s consistant. What blows my mind is when a player (Bruntlett) comes in as a PH and doesn’t take a single pitch from a pitcher he has never faced. Just wonder what Thompson and Charlie tell these guys…

by Steve-O- on May 19, 2008 7:59 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Howards sounded good.

by Steve-O- on May 19, 2008 8:00 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

5 LOB through 3 innings.

Maybe this is the part of the season that sucks this year.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:02 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

11 yesterday cost us the game. They’ll all click and look out.

by Steve-O- on May 19, 2008 8:04 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Leadoff double for Lopez.

Myers.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:05 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

3rd double for the Nats…Myers ain’t fooling them that’s for sure. With a team average of 234 (worst in the bigs) I expected this to be a confidence builder. That’s what I get for thinking (wishing).

by Steve-O- on May 19, 2008 8:06 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Myers wilting under the relentless offensive onslaught of Felipe Lopez and Cristian Guzman. First and third, no outs.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:06 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Anderson saying belt high middle of the plate. Dunno.

by Steve-O- on May 19, 2008 8:07 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Four pitch walk loads them.

I’m not sure Myers could handle a good minor league team right now.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:08 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Jenkins or Feliz in that situation would have swung 3-0 to prevent having to take a walk.

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 8:09 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Strikes out D’Meathook on some offspeed stuff. Nice.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:10 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Then Milledge doubles in two—that one wasn’t Myers’ fault. It was a pop fly that just landed fair. Buzzards luck.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:11 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Myers is a disgrace. Lucky bounce aside. His recent body of work does not suggest that it is just bad luck that is killing him.

by FuquaManuel on May 19, 2008 8:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

(having to listen on radio – game blacked out here in NC thanks to Time-Warner Cable and MASN having argument)

Myers may feel like that’s a bad luck hit, but the difference is that a staff ace doesn’t give up lead off doubles then walk people on 4 pitches to put himself in a situation where that kind of hit leads to multiple runs.

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 8:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good point. He got himself into that mess.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:14 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Strands the last two guys. 3-0.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:14 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And I see that we have picked up right where we left off as far as LOB’s are concerned.

Maybe it is just me and my negativity, but it feels like we are primed to have a streak where we lose a bunch more games than we win.

by FuquaManuel on May 19, 2008 8:15 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Jenkins with his second leadoff double after Burrell LOB’s two the previous inning.

aaaaand fricking Happy Pete pops up the first pitch.

I’m two outs away from turning this off for the night.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:17 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The third inning was the first inning, the fourth inning is the second inning.

Phillies baseball is not much fun right now.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:21 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I’ll watch through the phils next at-bat. I have more faith in the Rollins-Burrell half of the lineup than I do in the Jenkins-Myers half.

Feliz is frustrating, but compared to what we’ve had at 3rd base in the past couple years, he’s still an improvement. He’s a far superior fielder when compared to Helms/Nunez/Bell and he’s got more pop in his bat than those clowns as well.

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 8:25 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This also has the potential to be one of those 12-3 kind of games (as Myers walks the leadoff man, and essentially puts him on 2nd with an out) as the bullpen is taxed, Durbin pitched a lot yesterday, so I don’t see Myers getting pulled before he throws 100 pitches unless something crazy happens like bases loaded with the him due up.

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 8:26 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

McCarthy doesn’t do a great job of stating where the ball is going on the radio. Have to flip over the score sheet to see where Mackowiak is playing.

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 8:34 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Why does Redding consistently look like a Cy young candidate against our team?

by FuquaManuel on May 19, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Jenkins….a walk? Really?

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Jenkins walks. (Yeah, I’m still watching. Doing work. Work nearly finished, so I’ll turn this off soon.)

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well, at least Feliz waited for the pitch to get there before he swung. Ass.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

At least there were 2 outs so that wasn’t a GIDP

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 8:54 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Myers walks the pitcher.

by FuquaManuel on May 19, 2008 8:58 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sounds like Ruiz just nailed the runner.

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 9:04 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He did. Great throw.

by dajafi on May 19, 2008 9:05 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

this is the inning the phils get back in it

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 9:05 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

does flores have a cannon? Why didn’t Shane try to steal in his first AB? (Second AB = Utley swung at first pitch…)

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 9:09 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ok -time to break the 0-10 with RISP hex.

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 9:10 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i can only hope we go 3-13 with risp, like we did yesterday

by Bilzo on May 19, 2008 9:14 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

O for 12 with risp tonight. We be Phucked again (sigh)...

by Steve-O- on May 19, 2008 9:17 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Dog-gone

The Nats announcer just used the words “dog-gone” three times to describe that line drive.

by PhoenixPhilly on May 19, 2008 9:22 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This is the part where Madson comes in and gives up 2 or 3 runs effectively putting a somewhat close game completely out of reach late. But hey, its not like we would be able to score at all assuming we could get a few guys on base.

I need a vacation. After Cole tomorrow, I am taking some time off from this nonsense.

by FuquaManuel on May 19, 2008 9:24 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You’ll be back FM indeed you will ! Why Steve-O you ask? Cause like the rest of us morons you are addicted to pain LOL.
