May 30: Myers vs. Hendrickson
Florida Marlins @ Philadelphia Phillies
The top two teams in the NL East meet up for the first game of a three game weekend series, with the surprising first-place Marlins facing the surging Phillies.
Phillies starter Brett Myers hopes to close what has otherwise been a disastrous month of May (0-4, 6.67 ERA) on a positive note. Marlins starter Mark Hendrickson goes for win #8.

Meyrs off to a craptastic start.
With the day off couldn’t they have, you know, ‘skipped’ myers?

Time to put Myers on the DL. Just give him 2 weeks to clear his head and figure out if it is somethong physical. Call up Happ, give him 2 starts and see how it goes. We need Myers to pitch well down the stretch.

Thanks for a good laugh. Myers start doesn’t surprize me. He really is an asshole and I think it’s all self inflicted. I wanna close, I wanna close….Geesh.

A lot of guys are aholes and a lot of guys have issues upstairs. Who knows if that is what this is. But Myers has pitched well before and they need him to take a break.

I agree totally. When you have more confidence with Adam Eaton starting something is way wrong with that picture. Course the Philles would never try to hide a medical problem, no not the Phillies…never happen.

I wonder if Hendrickson is a good comp for J.A. Happ. Big lefty, not-great velocity, but it probably looks faster because he’s 12 feet tall. Also, some control issues.

This might be the best stretch of Shane’s career. 11 doubles already despite missing those couple weeks.

I like a good LH swing for some reason. I love his because it’s so compact. A pure hitter.

Myers got in trouble in the first inning because HanRam knocked the first pitch into CF for a hit. After that at bat, I believe Hendrickson was the next guy he got an 0-1 count on. You can’t pitch from behind in the majors and Myers is having all kinds of problems with that this year.

I have no idea how they scored that last at bat by Happy Pete as a hit. Uggla had him by two strides with a good throw. My scorecard has it as E-4.
How often do you see Feliz look at two called strikes?

Chollie figures the longer he leaves Myers in, the less likely he is to hang onto the QS.
I’m a Clay Condrey fan myself, ever since the goofy game last year against Florida where Barajas stood up and let a run in, and then Myers hurt himself. Condrey came in and snagged a liner back through the box to end the inning. Phils later won the game, after imploding in that inning.
Myers with 10K, seriously.

I’ve been watching the game on the phone for the last however long since I posted. Myers looks fantastic. His velocity still isn’t quite what we might like-seems like he’s sitting 88-89, up to 93 on one or two occasions-but so long as he’s hitting his spots, who cares.
The only slight bummer about this game is that the Marlins have so damn many relievers, it’s impossible to blow out their bullpen for the next two…
