Jason Werth

So good to see him back in the groove. Hope there are no lingering effects though. We all know the Phils scored a bunch without him which sure gives me confidence in our offense.

Byle Bendrick! Can’t seem to throw strikes tonight.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 7:27 PM EDT reply actions

Kendrick falling behind everyone this inning…

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 7:27 PM EDT reply actions

...but escapes, as he so often does.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Howard beat that play I think.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

Kendrick is just all over the place…I am anticipating 5 innings at the most from him.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 7:44 PM EDT reply actions

I’m starting to get a bad feeling about this game. KK just doesn’t have it and all of the BP were used last night. He’ll never make it to the 6th.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 8:05 PM EDT reply actions

Kendrick escapes again. This can’t last, though part of me prefers it to his last start in which he was in the zone but everything hit was a rocket. Tonight he’s just wild.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

I put the odds of a bench-clearing brawl tonight at about 1 in 3, maybe 2 in 5. It’s hot, both sides have been hit by pitches, last night’s game was crazy.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 8:08 PM EDT reply actions

Good points, all. I would really like to see KK drill someone though. Interesting fact Utley 9 HBP this year and get this I heard Garrett Anderson of the Angles has only been hit 5 times in his career. Amazing. (At least to me).

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Ugh. So we lost a run there because of a BS interference call?

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 8:16 PM EDT reply actions

Kendrick seems to have found a groove. Wouldn’t have guessed this a couple innings ago, but I’ll take it…

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 8:32 PM EDT reply actions

Well Hush My Mouth

Looks as though KK has settled in the last 2 innings.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

Howard

I shutter with every suckie at bat. God I am really getting sick of this weak bull-shit.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 8:36 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah..I am just kinda waiting until he goes on an Utley-esque tear…it just doesn’t seem to be happening.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Burrell so good to see. I can’t remember his last single. Gotta wonder why Howard doesn’t A) sit for a few days or b) get put down in the order. Last nights game showed with Atl having the Lefties to counter Utley and Howard back to back. Silly him batting 4th for Christ sake. This is a 2 month slump but ole Charlie sez ” One good swing and he’ll get it back” Bull-shit sez Steve-O. Ah I feel better now, thanks.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Howard might be due for another benching the next time the Phils see a lefty. He had at least one hard-hit out last night, but generally not good of late.

Anyway, Burrell hit one out, so we got that goin for us. Which is nice.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

This could be the danger inning.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 8:42 PM EDT reply actions

Well you were right.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 8:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Larry Larry Larry…Dammit.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 8:46 PM EDT reply actions

Get Romero up pleeze.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 8:51 PM EDT reply actions

Simply amazing

Rayes 3/34 and he hits with ‘em loaded. Cox must have no confidence in his BP…Oh that’s right Smoltz and Soriano are hurt.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 8:58 PM EDT reply actions

Cox should have gone for the throat. This non move is gonna cost him the game. It’s not Huddy with an 85 pitch count…I really am perplexed

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Heh-I was half-watching with the sound down-I’d rather smash my toes with a hammer than listen to the goddamn Braves muppet announcers—and didn’t notice that.

Of course we have Madson up right now, so maybe Cholly is just trying to be fair.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

years and I mean years ago I used to watch alot of Braves games, back when they were called ‘Americas team” oh 80 or 81. Anyway they weren’t so bad then but the past 10 years or so it has gotten Homer silly. Thank God for MLB radio so I can listen to our announcers.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s pretty amazing to me that we’re even competitive in game after game where the offense scores two, three, four runs. Thank god for the bullpen.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:19 PM EDT reply actions

Phils have the best BP in the NL looking at ERA. And to think it was considered a weakness going into the season. That’s one reason Stat Geeks.Well I’ll leave it alone.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I wrote this whole thing about bullpens but apparently hit “cancel” instead of “post.” The gist was that performance analysis/projections can’t really nail what bullpens will do because the sample size is too damn small. Guys like LIdge, great talents, and super-specialist Jesse Orosco LOOGY types are fairly predictable. Otherwise, crapshoot.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Cox has total faith in young Jo-Jo and/or absolutely zilch in his bullpen. Kid is now up over 100 pitches, and I have to assume it’s pretty durn hot in Hotlanta this evening.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:22 PM EDT reply actions

88 degrees but don’t know the humidity.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

Superman delivers. Phils lead 3-2.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:26 PM EDT reply actions

Got me a man crush on Utley…He is so clutch. Wow.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

Howard looks like he is swinging a dead fish up there instead of a bat.

And as I write that he ropes a single to drive in Chase. I love when that happens.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:30 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah. I was pleasantly stunned when he hit that hard. I’ve become way too accustomed to seeing him miss that pitch.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

The wife called me outta the room to ask some silly question…pardon me while I give her a beating… Nah.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:33 PM EDT reply actions

get a dvr

by jemagee on Jun 8, 2008 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Tesherra (I’ve chosen to spell it phonetically), McCann and Francoeur up in the 8th for the Braves. So this isn’t gonna be easy. Unless of course we tack on a few more here.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:33 PM EDT reply actions

Y’all ready for Gordon in the bottom half? I know I am!!! I have my depends on. Yeah, I plan ahead.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:36 PM EDT reply actions

I just try not to eat until after the game ends…

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s probably a good approach if your problem tends to be keeping your food down. My issues have more to do with continence.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Only when Gordon pitches of course.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions

The rare swing and miss at a non-strike by Burrell. Two out.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:36 PM EDT reply actions

If I really wanted to gross myself out, I suppose I could look up their career numbers against Flash…

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:42 PM EDT reply actions

Oh my cosmos. K’s Texiera on a full count fastball.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:43 PM EDT reply actions

Oh Yeah 2 K’s Go Flash. Say where’s wehatetolose guy…methinks he doesn’t like Flash….

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions

McCann goes down swinging at the hammer. Looking sharp tonight.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:45 PM EDT reply actions

Jeff Francoeur is an American version of Pedro Feliz.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:47 PM EDT reply actions

Remember the assist he had his first year, man what an arm.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I was actually referring to the tendency of both players to see very few pitches per AB, swing at junk, and get on base at an horrendously low clip.

But now that you mention it, yeah, both guys do appear to have plus arms for their respective positions as well.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Now Gordon has lost the zone. still gonna be interesting I guess.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:48 PM EDT reply actions

This is where Rollins needs to go tell him, “Throw strikes.”

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Shhh…You are interupting the famous Tomahawk Chop…

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions

lol. Because Gordon occasionally forgets that that is, after all, the point.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions

K’s the side…still manages to make me soil myself. Luckily this time I was prepared.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, my stomach took a nasty lurch when Ruiz didn’t catch it cleanly. Anderson can friggin’ fly.

OTOH, he clearly had some serious stuff tonight.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Mr Anderson now that’s a slider son.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

Great AB there from Chooch.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 9:57 PM EDT reply actions

J-Roll takes it from a save situation to a non-save situation in one swing. I love it. Good to see him finally crack one.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 10:00 PM EDT reply actions

I believe it was his first since coming off the DL.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

My God was Rollins due…Great

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 10:00 PM EDT reply actions

Naturally Utley gets hit again.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 10:05 PM EDT reply actions

I think we’re about four months from starting a serious conversation regarding whether any team has had a middle IF combo at the height of their powers equal to Utley and Rollins.

Hmm, both Lidge and Seanez up.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 10:06 PM EDT reply actions

Lidge. I am not disappointed.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe Charlie is making a statement I dunno. But what if you need him tomorrow when he ppitched last night too?

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I think this was the good call. He was probably up already and four runs isn’t all that much. Better to let him start the inning and just fire than risk having to bring him in with, say, a run home and two guys on.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm fine with bringing in Lidge

What bugs me, though, is that Seanez was warming at all. I’m pretty sure that only Lidge was warming when it was 4-2, but then Seanez got up after Rollins’ bomb. What was the point of that? Just in case the Phils scored more runs?

by phatj on Jun 8, 2008 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Naturally Howard makes an out.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 10:06 PM EDT reply actions

Escobar has a flair for the dramatic befitting a European soccer player.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 10:10 PM EDT reply actions

97 on strike two to Escobar. Has he thrown one faster all year?

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 10:11 PM EDT reply actions

They are saying the Atl gun is a tad fast 1-2 mph.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Reds went up on Fla in the 8th and have 2 on…Go Reds.

by Steve-O- on Jun 7, 2008 10:13 PM EDT reply actions

As Undercover Brother would say: solid!

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 10:13 PM EDT reply actions

Lidge flat out dealing tonight. Like he wanted to expunge any bad taste from Friday.

That was another great win. Team’s fun right now, even with the bats sorta tepid.

by dajafi on Jun 7, 2008 10:15 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, I was just gonna say…I could really get used to front running. This is fun.

Btw…when Romero appeared to tweak something on that pitch earlier on, the first thought that went through my mind was not “I hope he is okay,” it was “Swindle!”.

by FuquaManuel on Jun 7, 2008 10:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Phillies

Charlie gets his 300 th win tonight. The most in the NL since the start of the ‘05 season. Pretty impressive for us old time Phans to see this team. I’ve waited a long time for this through thick and thin. Great time my friends. See you tomorrow.
