7/1/08: Kendrick vs. Morton
Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves, Jul 1, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
Back to the NL, where the pursuers are drooling. The last series the Phillies won was in Atlanta, more than three weeks ago; maybe the return visit that begins tonight will inspire them to stop, y'know, sucking. A rookie pitcher named Charlie Morton starts for the Braves; Larry Jones Jr. is sidelined with a quad injury and might be bound for the disabled list soon.

If charlie was smart like larussa or that guy in pittsburgh, the line up would have been turned over regardless of outcome cause pitcher bat 8th can mean an extra 2 to 3 runs a year.

If it was such a good idea more managers would try it. Wait a minute let me reflect on this some more. Oh yeah Ruiz is our number 8….say maybe it would work.
It goes against the book, and like i wrote, it’s only about 2-3 extra runs per season so it’s not a huge advantage, i think the cardinals do it consistently, the brewers tried it and the pirates tried it right now, i was joshing cause as we know manuel buffoon larussa GENIUS

Rollins leads off the third with a single. Rookie pitcher keeps throwing over and has fallen behind Victorino… now the count is full. This is where the pre-Sucking Phils would have made some hay.
I have to say, if Victorino starts doing that more often I feel really good about this team going forward. ;)
It’s up to Gee-hoff to kill the rally! We will really see if things have changed if he can make something positive happen.
Now Buddy freakin Carlyle is gonna come in and look like Cy Young like so many mediocre NL east pitchers do.
Holy Smokes
Goob is 2 for 3 after being 2 for 41. Sure hope he’s back in the game tomorrow (wink, wink).
Hey FM whose up with the bases juiced? Yes your boy Gee-Hoff. But he’ll always be Goober to me. Look at his picture…Yikes.
Seriously...
If he can bench Jimmy Rollins for not running out a ground ball, he sure as hell should be benching Jenkins for swinging in that situation.
F$%&ing unreal. This team still has work to do. When Werth is not in the lineup the 6-9 hitters are utterly useless.
And now of course the fecal downpour begins.
After three weeks of this, I’m as gloomy and pessimistic as FM.
See, here’s the thing. I’ve been absolutely certain that we had horrible bullpen meltdowns in our future all season. The last three weeks have been especially awful because the pitching by and large, minus Myers, has been fine—the bats stink.
Romero might lose his command, Gordon is a disaster as we know, Lidge has to come to earth eventually. I’m not optimistic.
I swear on everything that is important to me, if they bring Gordon into this game next inning I will turn it off and not check the score until at least 36 hours from now.
So tell me
I know Bowa was accused of pulling pitchers too soon. Now my question, cause I have a feeling here, does Charlie wait too long?
It’s an interesting question. Seeing so many games in which Hamels, Moyer and Kendrick are left out there to give up runs in putting a line that reads “6+,” you’d certainly think so. But I’m also pretty confident that his hanging in with the starters helps explain why the bullpen has been so good thus far.
Was good to see Flash faced the bottom of the order. May need to build his confidence. This also shows me maybe he’s not hurt. As for FM, he’ll check on the Phillies before he goes to bed…guaranteed, he can’t stay away. And FM if you read this you know I’m right.
hehe, you were right Steve-O…just saw the score (accidentally) before I went to bed so I went and checked Gordon’s line…naturally he decides to have a clean inning the one night I wouldn’t stand for it anymore. Still, I think he is a complete toss up and on any given night you don’t know if he will be unable to throw strikes or he will look unhittable as he has at times. He has certainly proven that he is not fit for 8th inning duties any longer.
Carlos
3 BB’s tonight. Wow. Who woulda thunk it. Now Dobbs 17 for 38 as a PH. Unreal.
Lidge is in to face, I think, 9-1-2. I’m always of two minds about this: yeah, he was up already, and it’s better to bring him in to start the inning than risk Seanez or whoever getting into trouble and then having to call in the closer, but these guys have only so many bullets and who knows what the next six games will bring.
