7/2/08: Eaton vs. Campillo

Philadelphia @ Atlanta

The Phils go for two in a row in this rematch of the last game before The Sucking began. R.J. Swindle in da hizzy; Werth/Coste in the lineup. This game also begins a stretch of, I think, five straight in which yours truly won't be around, so play nice.

Hey did'ya hear?

Apparently the Phillies recent problems are attributable to Philliesleadership_is_about_to_be_tested.html” >their void in leadership after losing Aaron Rowand.

T-Mac says Charlie says Coste can’t play more often because he “wears down.”

Something tells me Coste himself does not feel this way.

Haven’t been around for the first few innings. Tell me, has Eaton been in any trouble? How has he looked generally?

by FuquaManuel on Jul 2, 2008 8:31 PM EDT   0 recs

All over the place in the 3rd, otherwise … alright.

Somewhat typical Eaton starts this year. Constantly nervous but still pitching okay.

Pat Burrell sez, “I don’t let people batting .220 have more home runs than me.”

Adam Eaton says: “I will never let this team consolidate a lead. We just scored a run? The hell with it! I don’t need your run support. Take your shut down inning and shove it!”

by FuquaManuel on Jul 2, 2008 8:43 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I actually can’t remember very many games this season where the Phillies had a lead for Eaton – either they couldn’t score or Eaton had already fallen behind in the first inning. Eaton may not know how to pitch with a five-run lead.

by phillyinportland on Jul 2, 2008 8:47 PM EDT   0 recs

Eaton may not know how to pitch with a five-run lead.

Fixed that for you.

I like that Chris Coste smells his bat after he hits a foul ball.

by christonabike on Jul 2, 2008 8:52 PM EDT   0 recs

I don’t like that Chris Coste hits in to double plays even when we send the runner to avoid it.

by christonabike on Jul 2, 2008 8:53 PM EDT   0 recs

This is bad.

The Phillies bringing in (Durbin|Saenez) here is what drives me crazy about bullpen management in the major leagues. Hopefully it’s Madson, I guess.

by christonabike on Jul 2, 2008 9:03 PM EDT   0 recs

Can Durbin make more magic?

They need to score like 5 more runs so Swindle can get into this game.

by FuquaManuel on Jul 2, 2008 9:11 PM EDT   0 recs

Tommy says Swindle is on LOOGY duty tonight.

by christonabike on Jul 2, 2008 9:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I guess that is a good thing, right? I assume that means he will pitching to McCann in all likelihood.

Re: Eaton

I stand corrected.

Feliz never learns.

by FuquaManuel on Jul 2, 2008 9:34 PM EDT   0 recs

Fun fact:

Howard now has more RBIs than hits. I wonder how often that’s happened?

by christonabike on Jul 2, 2008 9:36 PM EDT   0 recs

I remember Inky was close in 93 until he got a few hits at the end of the season…

I love this late game adding on that this team has been doing.

So Taguchi should not be allowed to play baseball.

by FuquaManuel on Jul 2, 2008 10:08 PM EDT   0 recs

Agreed. Isn’t there anyone else available in the way of backup outfielders to replace him?

Ryan Howard did not just make another error. This man is incredible in his ability to do only one good thing on the baseball field.
