Redding Alert: 7/30/08
Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals, Jul 30, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
If history holds, tonight's Phillies-Nationals game will be even lower-scoring than last night's 2-1 result. The Phils have yet to dent Washington starter Tim Redding in 13 1/3 innings this year, stretched across two victories. (Redding's ERA against everyone else: 4.45.) He's 4-2, 2.34 in nine career starts against the Phils, though one of the losses was the NL East-clinching game last Sept. 30.
The Phils counter with Jamie Moyer, who has gone 3-0, 2.31 against the Nationals since they moved from Montreal in 2005. Meanwhile, no news on the trade front--which at this point I think is good news. I don't want to see any of our prospects shipped for a situational lefty, and Gillick has done some of his best trade work in August anyway.

On the bright side …. high-scoring games turn into wins a lot of times. Not that I’m not expecting Moyer to settle down and give us a half-decent outing.

Looked okay in the second.
Things I hate about mlb.tv: they’re showing the Nationals bubblehead sideline reporter interviewing Karen Moyer, occasionally cutting back to the game. There was a very close play at first with Shane; I think he was out, but I’m still not sure.
Yup, he was out.
that’s not mlb.tv per se, that’s masn – or masn2 – their coverage blows

That mlb.tv sticks you with the awful local coverage, rather than letting me watch Harry whether they’re at home or away, is the gist of my complaint.
I’ve gotten MORE comcast broadcasts on the extra innings package than normla this year, but the majority of phillies broadcasts are ‘opponent’ broadcasts, and that’s usually cause comcast sucks…i don’t know how it works on mlb.tv but this is an issue i’ve dealt with for years across two sports

Actually, it was Jason Bergmann who lost the division-clinching game last Sept. 30. Redding lost the first game of that series, when Hamels threw a shutout.
That was a nice change – I was getting tired of nothing but singles.

I mean, I don’t hate Flash the person with the same passion that Daj and jem hate their respective Phillies, but I hate when Flash appears in a game because of the digestive issues it gives me. I am sure his injury had alot to do with his ineffectiveness. But you would be lying if you said you didn’t get a bit nervous every time Gordon came into a close game in the 8th.
I don’t hate Jenkins as a human being. He actually seems kind of cool—had a sense of humor about the Favre thing, etc.
Like jem w/r/t 3b, I hate him more as a symbol of the Phillies’ foolishness.
gotcha. I have to admit, everytime I see Jenkins flailing at the first pitch low and away I think of Bobby Abreu and I cry.
I don’t have any opinions on feliz the human being, i’ve never met him, i hate the 3rd baseman pedro feliz…

oh it’s deeper than that, it’s the hole at 3rd base the phillies have ignored since rolen left…feliz is just the third in the line of crap they have foisted upon the fans while not even coming CLOSE to developing a 3rd baseman and ignoring even potential candidates like Donald who they don’t think is ‘the right mold’ for a 3rd baseman….hell i wouldn’t be surprised to see little davey eckstein out there in a year or two

Great job by Moyer to record a QS after surrendering 3 first inning runs.
After the 1st inning Moyer only allowed 2 his and 3 walks.
Not a bad idea – can you see if Happ is in the bullpen?

Hate to keep riding the same horses, but Durbin sure has been valuable. Madson, maybe he needs an arm rest?

No argument here. And while I still think it’s at least partly fluke, for one thing, maybe he’s an Aaron Fultz ‘05 where he does it all year, and for another, I’m still not convinced about Romero, and he’s done it for more than a year now…
I wonder about Romero at times, too, but if Lidge ever needs a day off I’d feel pretty good plugging Romero into the ninth inning.

Hopefully this offensive explosion will exhaust the Nationals and they’ll get nothing tomorrow.

The double switch implies he plans 2 innings for madson?

Jimmy Rollins effing blows. Does it look worse for Rollins or the integrity of the MVP award that Shane Victorino has been a better baseball player than Jimmy this season?
Or maybe what it says is that rollins had a career last year and expecting him tto come close to repeating it is beyond irrational and insane and giving him grief for not repeating the same feat is just irrational and a need for hatred and over reaction?
by jemagee on Jul 30, 2008 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions
I mean, 2 pitch at bats like that are unacceptable from a leadoff hitter whether he had a career year last year or not.
by FuquaManuel on Jul 30, 2008 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions
Calling his season and MVP award an embarassment because of one at bat is not something you really want people to take seriously is it?
The phillies as a TEAM have been less patient at the plate this year, top to bottom…and the reason is not jimmy rollins
it’s fracking pedro feliz
by jemagee on Jul 30, 2008 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions
its not just one AB, Rollins has been doing this practically all season. His approach at the plate has been very Feliz-like.

I hope Kendrick got a good look at what works against the Nationals – right now they’re about as weak a team offensively as we’ll see all year.

w00t!!! FIRST PLACE MOFOS!!!!1
(I’m not really feeling that rowdy, but it’s nice to be lead dog again)
Seeing Gammons comments that the marlins might get ramirez and not have to pay any of his salary puts cold water on it for me…

How can you hate anyone on the nats (aside from paul lo duca) it’s such a pathetic franchise even with the new ownership (they have new ownership right) that’s more embarassing now than it EVER was in montreal…it’s in the perfect city though to show exactly NOT how to run something
by jemagee on Jul 30, 2008 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Seeing the Phils score 10 or 12 runs on him probably will ease my hate. Especially if Chase takes him deep twice and lines another one off his thigh.
Where have you gone, Tad Iguchi, a city turned its lonely eyes to you ….
by phillyinportland on Jul 30, 2008 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Sorry if that was a bad reference. FYI – July 30th last year: Phillies traded for Kyle Lohse while Victorino and Bourn were both injured in a win over the Cubs. Iguchi hit his first homer for the Phillies, Brett Myers got his 7th save, and the Phillies cut the Mets lead to 3 games.
