Shane's July
He's mostly shown up in news reports as hyper-verbal and anxious over his trade status--which, as it's 4pm right now, presumably won't be a concern anymore--but Shane Victorino has had a monster month of July. With one game remaining in the month, he's put up a .327/.370/.624 line, with 33 hits in 101 at-bats. Perhaps most surprising is the seven home runs he's slugged in the month; that's TK percent of his career total. Victorino's July also included five doubles, two triples and five steals (in eight attempts, which isn't quite so good).
I'd be surprised if he gets serious Player of the Month consideration, but he's a worthy candidate.

When Abreu was traded, I wasn’t all that pissed because I thought Victorino could step in and do a simliar if not better job. He may not have the OBP of Abreu, but he leaves it all on the field. I was hoping for a 20 HR season out of him at the start of the season. The injury slowed him a little, but I hope this is the full-strength Shane were seeing. I really would’ve hated to have seen him traded. I’m not sure how old he is, but a fringe all-star isn’t out of the question for him in his career.

I consider myself to be a huge Shane fan, but he’s not on Abreu’s level.

I was trying to think of a more detail oriented way to say that, starting with power, plate discipline, etc…but yeah, you’re right, offensively he’s no where near abreu, nor do i think he ever will be (nor did i ever EXPECT him to be)

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Shane’s good, it’s just that Abreu’s really good.

Shane gets some extra points for being able to play center (and a good center at that). His offense relative to his peers is still below Abreu’s offense relative to his peers, but not by as great a margin.

Actually, by defensive statistics, his defense isn’t so good in center.
For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?

We’re all entitled to opinions.
I didn’t think Abreu was that great when he was let go. He had a couple great seasons earlier, but he was definitely on the downslope when we cut him.

Except that he wasn’t cut, he was traded and he’s done quite well in New York…there are actual facts out there you could use to determine whose been better since the trade, offensively, and victorino will come up short compared to Abreu
