Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals, Jul 31, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
So here are your Phillies--now and, probably, for the rest of the year--going for the sweep in Washington. Mets are off. Kyle Kendrick vs. Utley-killer John Lannan.

The sac bunt with men on 1st and 3rd…Richie Ashburn is rolling over in his grave.

Yeah, I hate that play. OTOH, both guys wound up scoring… albeit without a hit.

Kyle Kendrick=Nolan Ryan?
4 batters, 3 Ks

nothing, its for my own sake really. I want to keep track of how many times he gives up 2 strike hits in this game just to see the extent to which his lack of an out pitch ends up mattering.

yeah, perhaps his slider is biting tonight and/or perhaps he is benefitting from the Nats’ suckitude.

so, just looking for something to be negative about during the game…what happened to pickign on rollins?:)

I never said it was something to be negative about during the game. I said I wanted to keep track to see how much it actually does matter. Looks like it cost us a run in that inning though.

And for the record, Rollins is aight. 2-run homers make you forget about 2 and 3 pitch ground outs really quickly. hehe. what have you done for me lately?

More two-strike damage, and it’s all come with two outs.

wow
Kendrick strikes out, ball bounces, he doesn’t run, Flores throws it—and the 1b can’t bring it in. He’s safe.

I still say Victorino is greater than or equal to Abreu!

Yeah, I don’t know about stealing there. Maybe in a 2 strike count, but not a 2 ball count. Shane has been getting thrown out too much recently.

damn shane – don’t make me look bad after I’m pimping you.

And more bad base running in the 5th. WTF?

Phils with five straight two-out hits in the 6th have busted this one open. I might turn my attention elsewhere (checking back, no doubt).

2 outs for kendrick in the 7th and then trouble. Cholly should not go on with this charade of making his pitchers work the extra inning.

Amen to that. Especially with Kendrick. Seems like he never learns that lesson.

Cholly should bring Happ into this game, 2 lefties coming up shortly.
by FuquaManuel on Jul 31, 2008 9:40 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He’s had a couple good spots the last two nights to get Happ’s feet wet out of the bullpen, but didn’t.
I wonder if maybe the idea behind the callup was that somebody from the rotation (Kendrick?) might get traded, and Happ was there to slot into the rotation.

Seanez is close to punching his ticket out of here I think.
by FuquaManuel on Jul 31, 2008 9:56 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Seanez = Bad. He hasn’t been effective in a while.
by Bilzo on Jul 31, 2008 9:57 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree, but think of this as (probably) no-cost awareness-raising of his suckness.

Madson was bad last night. Seanez bad tonight. Lets get this crap out of the system.
by Bilzo on Jul 31, 2008 9:59 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, but Madson’s been very good overall this season. Seanez probably is just cooked and they should replace him. Not the same thing, and as you point out neither egg laid meant a loss.

seriously – why are we getting every pitcher in the bullpen up?
This was the perfect spot to put Happ in, and Chollie refused.
I’d have thought this was an ideal time to let Condrey finish a game, stupid me.

Maybe cholly was trying to make a point to Gillick…
