Make it Stop, 7/9/08
St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies, Jul 9, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
It's an odd feeling to be embarrassed that your team's in first place. Probably won't have to worry about this much longer, though.

Game’s about to start. Perhaps we’ll have a lead in-game tonight; it would be the first time, save for about ten minutes Saturday, that had happened since Thursday.

Good Grab Pedro
The wife almost wrote off Happ after 5 straight balls to open. Thankfully he stopped short-arming his fastballs, for the most part.

Couple hard-hit balls right at guys in the first. Hopefully he’ll settle down and start locating better.

I think that if there is any big symptom of the Phils’ hitting woes, it is their inability to pull the trigger on any close pitch. It is almost as if they have gotten extremely hesitant at the plate. As I type, Victorino draws a four pitch walk.

Ruiz needs to go back to Rookie ball to learn how to hit. Or, as my father suggested: “They all need to take batting practice over the all-star break until their hands bleed”

That was one of the more patient Howard PA’s in a while.

Among the regulars, really I hate ‘em all, other than Burrell.

In a purely subjective analysis pedro feliz swings at the first pitch more than any other phillie who ain’t a pitcher

Out of curiosity, i don’t recall…what inning did happ explode in last game?
by jemagee on Jul 9, 2008 9:12 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs

“Ruiz, Happ, Rollins” due
Not very confidence-inspiring that we’ll break the drought.

I’m confused by this recent play, i thought offense good, pitching mediocre…when did offense become suxxorz….when are they signing barry bonds?

Here comes the crappy sac bunt attempt
by Cluttered_JML on Jul 9, 2008 9:24 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Do pitchers bat on these minor league teams? And why can’t they bunt when they get here?

Now, for the disappointment of the less than two out/runner on third scenario

Having him go on contact with the heart of your order up is just dumb

hit
Chase line drive hit to right.
Two on for Ryan.
Howard’s at-bats are like a “Choose your own adventure” book.

If you want an RBI single to right field...

12 game hitting streak
Is he still averaging an RBI per hit?

89 pitches from Happ, 5-6-7 due. Please, another scoreless frame here.

Wait…i haven’t been paying attention…why the hell isn’t cole hamels going to the all star game?
by jemagee on Jul 9, 2008 9:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
asg
Because Charlie Manuel paid off his old buddy Tony LaRooz so Cole could get some rest. Plus he’s due to pitch on Sunday and thus would probably be unavailable during the game itself.

bad feels
I sense this is the J.A. Happ Meltdown Inning.

Nice K on Ankiel. After two heart twisting foul balls.

Geoff Jenkins looks too much like brett favre, he has to go

Is this guy ‘overperforming’ like kendrick last year or is this kind of what he’s done all along?
by jemagee on Jul 9, 2008 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Averaged more than a K/IP this year in AAA. Better than KK ever did.

Is it me, or does it look like Feliz is bailing more frequently in his swings these days?

Quick ‘fore sight’ – is letting Happ pitch the 7th a good idea?
by jemagee on Jul 9, 2008 9:54 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Probably of the mind that he is facing bottom and number one of the order. But I am a bit concerned myself.
by Cluttered_JML on Jul 9, 2008 9:58 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i think now would be a good time to take him out
by jemagee on Jul 9, 2008 10:01 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That was a terrible angle by Victorino. He probably could have gotten it, but I agree, Happ’s gotta go.

oh my
Pujols grand slam? Feel it in your heart?
by WholeCamels on Jul 9, 2008 10:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
They coulda left in Happ to do that
by Cluttered_JML on Jul 9, 2008 10:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The wife was already saying 4-2 and then he only hit the fly ball to Burrell.

Howard with the delightfully unexpected bomb there.
by dajafi on Jul 9, 2008 10:36 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Happy Pete with a bomb, 4-2 Phils.
What are the odds that ESPN replays the 2005 NLCS Pujols homer off Lidge?
by WholeCamels on Jul 9, 2008 10:44 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
So I’m watching the Extra INnings (CSN) feed over ESPN…did harry just say the phillies take a 2 run lead in the 9th? I’m doing homework and listening in the background
by jemagee on Jul 9, 2008 10:46 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
my point was that he said a 2 run lead in the NINTH (so i heard)...being a home game i found it odd that they’d take a 2 run lead…one should be enough in the ninth right?
by jemagee on Jul 9, 2008 10:51 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Did it in the 8th. Harry’s, y’know, old.
Lidge slams the door after jiggling with the keys, and my digestive system, by walking two Cardinals and giving up some foul bullets.
Big win for the good guys.

Happ
Gotta say he’s been unexpectedly strong both starts.
