A nice, quiet little beach community: Game Thread 8/12/08

Philadelphia Phillies @ Los Angeles Dodgers

After fighting back but falling just short in last night's contest, the Phils send Cole Hamels to the mound this evening to attempt to right the ship.  The Dodgers will counter Hamels with a young lefty of their own, 20 year old Clayton Kershaw, the 7th overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft.

Thusfar Kershaw has given up lots of baserunners (1.53 WHIP) but has limited the damage by keeping the ball in the park (4 HR in 60.2 IP).  He's been outstanding in his last three starts - 1 R in 19 IP.

Young pitcher, good stuff, lefty, Phils have never faced him before…hmm, considering that it is unlikely we will score on the kid, perhaps it would be wise to be patient and try to get to the bullpen by the 6th or 7th.

Damnit, all wrong! Way to go Chase.

Ha, finally Cholly has Shane leading off and Jimmy splitting the lefties! This should be interesting.

I was going to have said the 3rd inning, but Chase looks like he is coming out of whatever it was he was in.

Oh Cole, come on man.

According to Vin Scully

Bruntlett was introduced to Algebra at 6, got a 1460 on his SAT and graduated with a 3.9.

Apparently which helps him get a hit too!

Although I gotta admit, if I can’t watch the Phillies feed, Vin is a voice I love listening to.

I got the same score he did! That’s a conversation starter if I ever meet him.

Good AB by Howard….and Kershaw is ‘flustered’

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 12, 2008 10:54 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Who knew that they would averaging a run per inning so far?

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 12, 2008 10:57 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hamels is dealing now. Please keep it up.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 12, 2008 11:03 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Great AB Bruntlett, really top notch!

by FuquaManuel on Aug 12, 2008 11:35 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wasn’t it? I think my wheelchair bound grandmother could have given a better AB. She would have at least taken a few pitches

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 12, 2008 11:35 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That does it….I am forevermore referring to Bruntlett as ‘The Brain’...all we need is a Pinky

I am always amazed by a person who is supposed to be so intelligent has such a low baseball IQ.

The offense is gonna leave this one up to Hamels for the 7th and the pen from then on…Let’s hope we don’t spring any leaks.

Luckily, this time it paid off

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 13, 2008 12:12 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well, a bit of concern cause he threw so many pitches the last inning and he was at 100. Fortunately, it was the bottom of the Dodger’s order (I include Pierre there). Just hope Cole id done now, no need to push our luck with his arm.

Well, my sister is 10, and they look a bit older than that, but not much, so I am gonna say 12.

Odds that Michael Phelps uses PEDs?

by FuquaManuel on Aug 13, 2008 12:16 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

3 to 1 – you notice how much Phelps looks like the East German ‘ladies’ weightlifting team from the 70’s?

no chance I dont think. drug testing there is getting nuts, so I doubt he’d test it. also, most of those guys don’t even want to get very big. he said he just starting lifting this year

by char6587 on Aug 13, 2008 12:18 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

not steroids, I meant EPO and blood doping…they have a new kind of EPO that can’t be tested for yet.

Well, this can only be bad methinks. I think I will run off to sleep with the memory of a lead in my head so as to avoid bad dreams. peace.
