Redding, Phillies: Nationals at Phillies, 8/21/08
Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies, Aug 21, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
Nothing like a woeful Nationals team to help your squad keep pace with the red-hot Mets. Brett Myers tossed his first shutout in nearly three years last night. Jamie Moyer tries to keep it going against journeyman Tim Redding.
These last two victories have done little to mask the fact that the lineup is still being pretty crummy.
SWEEP 'EM!

More garbage ABs in the 2nd. Though I was mildly surprised that Feliz avoided the 6-4-3 in his first plate appearance back.
Howard is just flat-out missing very hittable pitches.
He might need an off-day again. Let Dobbs take a start at 1b.
It just makes no sense whatsoever….do these guys not watch film or what?

What'd Whole Camels say?
That Cole, Brett and Jamie ought to have a blanket party for the offense. How can they possibly pitch any better? I hate to sound like FM here fellas but with the series coming up I think the Phillies will fold up the tent. And I’ll sit here watching getting pissed at myself knowing I should be doing something constructive.

now 3 for last 36. But the fans shouldn’t boo, it might get him in more of a funk.
Are you fucking kidding me
What in God’s name is howard swinging (or allowed to) at a 3-0 pitch? He can’t hit his ass with both hands….Unfuckingreal.
OT: That's a truly annoying Coke Zero ad
In fact, I’m generally annoyed with most of the ads this year, like the Carlos Ruiz one, while we’re at it.
Rofl, I was just talking about how Ruiz needs to homer.

Haha, AND it makes up for the crappy ad (which isn’t really his fault, of course).

just when Madson has you gaining some confidence in him again, he goes and does something like this. fuck it.
Madson needs you to gain confidence in him? I mean, a hit off the bag, a bloop double, and then a seeing eye up the middle. Kearns had a solid hit, but it’s not like he was blasted. Get a grip dude.

Obviously Madson doesn’t need my confidence in him, you dipshit, its a figure of speech. why don’t you lay off and shut the fuck up for once? I have only been glancing at gameday every once in a while, so I am sorry if I wasn’t able to fully understand the nature of his blown save. No comment goes unanswered with you.
I may take my anger out on the team, but you seem like one of those passive-aggressive pricks who really gets his rocks off bashing other people online. No need to worry about anything because you are tucked comfortably in the safety of your own home.
It is clear you don’t want to hear from me on this site anymore, so Daj, just say the word and I am gone. If not, then keep your dog on a leash.
He doesn’t have to say the word. I could ban your ass now. In fact, considering your cursing and your veiled threat to me, I’ll talk it over with the other admins here and see if they agree. I liked you as fodder. You are the gas that keeps the fire burning. When I need an example of a foolish fan, you are target number 1. So, it would be a shame to lose my precious little poof is in the pudding. It is a dilema for me…

If you have a problem with me or something I have said, instead of making a snide remark for other people to read and have a good laugh at (thereby boosting your self esteem) why not send a personal email? I, like most people, can only take so much ridicule. I apologize to others on this site who were offended by my language and I apologize to you if I scared you with my “veiled threat.”
I appreciate TGP for its unorthodox take on baseball analysis and its unique approach to Philadelphia Phillies fandom—unfortunately your resentment of the typical Philadelphia fan is to attack all who display traits of these fans with sarcastic, often nasty remarks. This resentment drives you to try and create a space free of any such people. Your self-righteousness is stifling but people are different—we cannot all be like you.
While I may be little more than a straw man to you, I would urge you not to forget that as abstract and immaterial I might seem through the internet, I am in fact a human being and expect at the very least a modicum of respect.

And, if I do end up being banned, I would just like to say it was nice being able to chat it up during games with some of you. It is good to know that I am not the only one who was being driven to the brink of insanity by this team…you have made watching games a far more enjoyable experience and it has been comforting to be able to suffer and celebrate with you all. Wish I could have kept a check on my emotions this time, if for no other reason than being able to continue to have access to this community come game time. I have a lot of anger, and the Phillies (and TGP I guess) have become one way I release what is pent up in a much less destructive way than I have in the past. Really sorry, goodbye.

Don’t be so self unaware. You attacked me. I told you to get a grip for ripping on Madson who has been a stud this year. I had no idea that you didn’t watch the game and you certainly over reacted to it (as you often do). However, you took it down a level by cursing me out and by making a not even so veiled threat.
“No need to worry about anything because you are tucked comfortably in the safety of your own home.”
What the hell else is that supposed to mean? You may think I am some sort of internet dork, but I assure you, if we met, you’d probably realize how much of a dork I REALLY am and then would feel too guilty about beating me up. Anyway, you reacted to me and not what I said and then implied I had the problem. You do need to get a grip, but you aren’t going to get banned unless you threaten someone else (or even me). The cursing at should also be done with, but you just sound more like my mom than anything.

First, I would dispute that Madson has been a “stud” this year…Lidge has been a “stud”, Madson has been solid. It is an objective fact that Madson goes through stretches where he looks unhittable followed by appearances where he gives up several runs in key situations. I have been a big Madson supporter this year, and I was just expressing frustration with the situation more than with him as an individual. “Obviously Madson doesn’t need my confidence in him, you dip@#$%, its a figure of speech.” —and for the record, I did react to what you said before I went on my profane tirade of personal attacks.
"No need to worry about anything because you are tucked comfortably in the safety of your own home."
My intention was not to threaten you with physical confrontation, rather to make the point that many people are much less likely to check how they are coming off to others when the only indication of human interaction are words on a computer screen. Fighting is a waste of time and I don’t much like it.
I am sorry for popping off, and I would just appreciate it if you toned down your comments in response to me.

My comments have nothing to do with you, but with what you say. If anyone said them, I’d respond the same. Don’t take it personally. If you want to fly off the handle and take the time to type it here and hit post, be understanding that someone is going to call you out on it. I think that is fair all around.

Question – has Ryan Howard ever been asked to think about situational hitting? It seems like he must have made some attempts sometime to do something like move runners along, hit to the opposite field, even lay down a bunt. I may not be remembering the exact time the Ryan Howard shift started, but it seems like ever since they started it he’s been determined to beat it the hard way – and his batting average has dropped way off since then.

Victorino singles. Next three guys are Bruntlett, Ruiz, and Coste/Taguchi.
Just kill me. The only way I imagine they score is SB, bunt, Ruiz grounder finds a hole.
Screw that….wild pitch is the only way!

Honestly, I think that stealing third was the way to go there considering who was at the plate.

And I would have liked to have seen a double steal in the 8th with Howard at bat – considering who was at the plate. It’s the point in the season where they need to be more aggressive both at bat and on the bases.

Who would have thought
that the Phils would have better starting pitching this year and a much better bullpen and be mediocre at best because of an inconsistent offense that can’t manufacture runs. The booing of Rollins is stupid, and only convinces me that those kinds of Philly fans are the ones we don’t need and give the town a bad name.
