The memories of their four-game shellacking at Chavez Ravine still smarting, the Phillies welcome the Dodgers to Philadelphia for another four game series.

Young right-hander Kyle Kendrick, struggling of late, faces off against old new-again Dodger Greg Maddux, who just last weekend pitched a gem against the Phils on behalf of the Padres, only allowing one run -- a solo homer -- to Pat Burrell in a 1-0 loss at the hands of the even older Jamie Moyer.

Great catch to end the 2nd.

Oops

meant to say the first inning.

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s okay boys, you’ll get em’ next time! Maybe you will make him throw 6 pitches in the 2nd! Don’t sweat it, its all good.

Now Now FM. Chin up old chap.

What ‘chu talkin’? Positive reinforcement, trying to turn over a new leaf!

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Please. Phillies, win it today as a birthday present to my dad, who has been following your team for almost 50 years…

Happy BD to your Pops! I’ve been a fan for not quite as long, ever since I was a young one growing up in smoggy Los Angeles.

KK

2 innings. 46 pitches 26-20, 1 HBP and 1 WP. Going too deep in the count. Must not have been listening when Dubee and Charlie told him to attack the strike zone.

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

Yay! 6 Pitches this inning! Great work guys…baby steps, right?

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 7:35 PM EDT reply actions

Maddux

11 pitches to get 6 outs. I ain’t gonna say it.

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 7:35 PM EDT reply actions

SUPER Yay! A hit AND 12 pitches this inning. Keep up the great work!

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 7:48 PM EDT reply actions

Keeping my fingers crossed. What are the odds Kendrick makes it through the fourth inning tonight?

by phillyinportland on Aug 22, 2008 7:48 PM EDT reply actions

23 pitches through three innings AND I turn it on just in time to hear McCarthy. Truly, everything’s coming up dajafi.

by dajafi on Aug 22, 2008 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

You remember that terrible move with Brendan Frasier where in the final ridiculous game sequence he throws the ultimate perfect game getting 27 K’s and only throwing 81 pitches. I kinda feel like the Phillies just saw that movie and are trying to do their best to outdo the offense that Brendan Frasier was pitching against as far as the economy with which their opposing pitcher uses pitches.

Should I just smash my toes with a hammer rather than watch any more of this?

I’m going tomorrow, and I’m actually dreading that.

by dajafi on Aug 22, 2008 8:00 PM EDT reply actions

Awesome AB from Burrell there.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

And it paid off…I have to admit, I had this weird feeling that Howard was gonna blast one there.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

Holy crap. I didn’t see that coming. Pretty sweet though.

If the switch just weirdly goes on for Howard, everything looks different.

by dajafi on Aug 22, 2008 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

How ’bout Kendrick with the shutdown inning? Another happy surprise.

by dajafi on Aug 22, 2008 8:12 PM EDT reply actions

Kendrick has looked surprisingly solid since the 1st inning. My only fear is that Cholly will leave him out there one inning too long.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 8:13 PM EDT reply actions

Got busy and missed Howards shot. Damn. Agree with you on leaving KK in for 1 too many.

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Much as I loathe Jenkies, his numbers against Maddux are so good that it’s actually a bummer he had to leave this one.

by dajafi on Aug 22, 2008 8:16 PM EDT reply actions

Coste

C’mon with some good Mojo…you can do it !

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 8:18 PM EDT reply actions

Suddenly Maddux is looking quite…vincible?

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 8:19 PM EDT reply actions

Ugh…what is with Rollins? This homestand has been the worst kind of disaster for him.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 8:22 PM EDT reply actions

Trying to be as positive as possible, but I have to admit, I am a little peeved by that inning.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 8:25 PM EDT reply actions

Jimmy Rollins

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

by Bilzo on Aug 22, 2008 8:27 PM EDT reply actions

KK

Great battle with Manny even if it ended with a BB.

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 8:34 PM EDT reply actions

Kendrick done after 5 2/3, after allowing a walk (Ramirez) and single (Loney) w/two outs.

Should have had Eyre ready for Loney. Durbin coming in now.

by dajafi on Aug 22, 2008 8:37 PM EDT reply actions

Bases loaded, 1 out. Hmm…

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

Wow

bases loaded for Werth.

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

so if the phils had sent the runner with 1 out…they’d have 2 runs in now?

by Bilzo on Aug 22, 2008 8:52 PM EDT reply actions

I am breaking out the confetti and balloons, this is an occasion worth celebrating.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply actions

Oh Yeah

CC 3 run blast…life is good.

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply actions

or they get the runs anyway…nevermind.
WOO CHRIS COSTE!!!

by Bilzo on Aug 22, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply actions

Maddux

My God the way he started I though he could go 15 innings if needed, but it’s like he ran out of gas…I dunno.

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 8:54 PM EDT reply actions

I’ve missed this.

Some good, good ABs there. Werth battling back from 0-2 to get the sac fly was enormous.

by dajafi on Aug 22, 2008 9:00 PM EDT reply actions

The AB of the inning...

…Durbin fightin’ it off for a number of pitches before getting his 2nd hit out.

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 22, 2008 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

Rollins’ abject disaster of a homestand continues. Really, I am kinda wondering if he is doing this as an experiment to test his Philly fan hypothesis.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 9:11 PM EDT reply actions

Utley homers to dead center.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 22, 2008 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

If we get Chase and Howard going, this could be fun all the sudden.

by dajafi on Aug 22, 2008 9:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Shades of last year eh. What did Howard have last Sept, something like 15 bombs.

by Steve-O- on Aug 22, 2008 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Excellent Win

I put up with a lot of crap from my brothers that happen to be Dodger fans. Ah revenge, hey you gotta win the first one to go for the sweep right.
