Complete Coverage >

HERE WE GO!  This is the Phillies offense we have grown accustomed to over the past couple seasons.  The Phils have put 17 runs on the league's best pitching staff in two games.

They try to keep it going tonight against Hiroki Kuroda, who absolutely dominated the Phillies last week (7 IP/2 H/1 R/7 K).  Cookies Blanton mans the cupcake for the Phils.

Charlie goes with jonk's dream lineup again (Utley 2nd, Burrell 3rd, Howard 4th) which seems to be working pretty well so far.

Blanton not looking too great early here.

Starting to go downhill fast. Howard probably should have had that though.

I thought Adam Eaton was in the minors.

Blanton gets out with minimal damage after the strikeout.

The K of Blake was huge, especially with Kuroda…he scares me. Deceptive.

by Steve-O- on Aug 24, 2008 8:30 PM EDT reply actions

Haha, announcers just said that Ethier’s AB was actually a 5 ball walk, not the usual 4 balls. Dumb ass ump.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

I swear, Howard’s batting stance changes from one AB to another.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 8:36 PM EDT reply actions

Bad inning from the Phillies’ O to start the game.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 8:38 PM EDT reply actions

Ugh. Pat, Pat, Pat. Must catch ball.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

Come on Carlos, do something positive.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 8:52 PM EDT reply actions

Kuroda definitely doesn’t look as sharp as he did in LA, but the Phillies hitters are letting him off the hook.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 9:11 PM EDT reply actions

For christ’s sake, why is Howard swinging 3-0? Give me a break.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

So why does ‘the pillar of salt’ get to swing 3-0. Oh so he can ground out to second. Silly me.

by Steve-O- on Aug 24, 2008 9:13 PM EDT reply actions

No hitter, no hitter, no hitter…There, that should do it.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 9:21 PM EDT reply actions

I can’t believe this little bitch is no-hitting us again.

by dajafi on Aug 24, 2008 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

I guess the ultimate in Sunday excruciators would be a no-hitter where we had several opportunities to score runs.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Every time a pitcher gets a hit against us a little piece of me dies.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

Decided to play Kashmir when Utley came up. I guess it worked. Haha.

by besam32 on Aug 24, 2008 9:48 PM EDT reply actions

Wow, great catch right there!

by besam32 on Aug 24, 2008 9:55 PM EDT reply actions

Damn that was great

by Steve-O- on Aug 24, 2008 10:01 PM EDT reply actions

Probably Ryan Howard’s best defensive play ever.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 10:02 PM EDT reply actions

Howard’s mostly in there for his glovework.

by dajafi on Aug 24, 2008 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

You need a nap Daj.

by Steve-O- on Aug 24, 2008 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Can’t get it done at the plate though.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 10:06 PM EDT reply actions

Being a half tool player (power) all he can do is add HR and RBI. I still get excited hearing his HR blast but I have been getting sour on him for some time.

by Steve-O- on Aug 24, 2008 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the bullpen’s probably gonna blow this one tonight, which doesn’t really matter because you don’t expect to win scoring only 1 run.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 10:16 PM EDT reply actions

Howard is ON tonight in the field! Romero picks off Juan Pierre and Howard actually makes the throw down to 2nd in time. Wow.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 10:24 PM EDT reply actions

EPIC battle between Kemp and Romero…Romero won.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 10:27 PM EDT reply actions

Damnit Madson. Damnit.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 10:35 PM EDT reply actions

This is going EXACTLY as the last game against Kuroda did.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 10:50 PM EDT reply actions

Jimmy Rollins: .242 OBP when leading off innings. Eek.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 10:59 PM EDT reply actions

Burrell singles up the middle. Setting up the Ryan Howard K.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 11:03 PM EDT reply actions

Okay, not quite a K, but a pathetic AB nonetheless.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 11:05 PM EDT reply actions

Feliz, mailman…even on Sundays!

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 11:30 PM EDT reply actions

Charlie Manuel is a blithering idiot. Taking Burrell out of the game when we are down 2-1? You really want to see So Taguchi in the bottom of the 10th? Gimme a break.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 11:55 PM EDT reply actions

Ryan Howard gets picked off of first with 2 outs in the 10th. I am at a loss for words really. Send him to the friggin gulag.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 24, 2008 11:57 PM EDT reply actions

Durbin with some escape artistry in the 10th, then was just good in the 11th.

Win plz!

Pedro Feliz is my favorite Phillie…

….Tonight

Was thinking of you after it hit past midnight—no longer a Sunday game ;)

(Though, again, I think their Sunday Night Baseball record is really good: 4-0 that I can think of.)

by dajafi on Aug 25, 2008 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Was at the game...

But has to leave for work in the 8th. Vic looked like WR making that grab in CF. Howard’s catch is the best you’ll see him do. The game was so freakin boring up to when I left and then all of the sudden it turned into a blast. It wasn’t me cause I was there on Saturday and that was fun the entire time.

Btw, the Dodgers have scored 5 runs in the 3 games.

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?

by jonk on Aug 25, 2008 1:54 AM EDT reply actions

phillies have outscored the dodgers in their seven games this year by 38-27. they should be like 5-2 based on that instead of 3-4. it was nice to finally pull out a close one against the dodgers. hopefully we can rattle off a little winning streak here and take first place!
