Unlikely vs. Irrational: 8/5/08
Miami Marlins at Philadelphia Phillies, Aug 5, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
Every time Jamie Moyer faces the Marlins, I think to myself: This is it. He simply can't beat these guys again. They've seen him too many times, they're too good, and he's only human--he's going to have an off night against Florida sooner or later.
I don't know if this is Negadelphianism, reverse black-cattery or simply mild neurosis unleashed. But I hope I'm as wrong this time as I have been all the other times--or if I'm right, that the Phillies knock Josh Johnson silly. As strong as the team has looked over the last week-plus, they've got to start beating real pitchers eventually, and this week against their closest divisional pursuer would be a fine time for it.

I thought the same
10 outta 10 is unreal to be sure but Moyer has the mojo so let’s see him make it 11/11.
The way I see it, if we are worried about Jamie’s luck finally snapping, then a ND would be all it would take. And if that were the case, we very well might still come out winners…so here’s to hoping that Jamie either (a) keeps up his winning ways or (b) has his streak snapped but the Phils still win.
Bottom of our order
Looking at the bottom it’d be a great time to see Shane continue his hitting and Jim-Me to pick it up a couple of notches. God I hate seeing Jenkins and Ruiz playing ina series opener.
Agreed Jenkins has actually put up the numbers I expected in April, May and June…maybe that’s why I’m soured on the guy.
One month of above average hitting doesn’t make up for months of terrible, I’m just trying to stay optimistic that Jenkins isn’t washed up.

Jenkins’ May stats were actually pretty similar to what he’s doing now. His crappy overall stats are primarily the result of a transcendently awful June.
To slice the salami even thinner, it all comes from a 13-game stretch from June 8-27, when Jenkins went 2 for 41 with three walks. If you erased those 13 games from the history books, Jenkins’ 2008 statline would be .332/.468/.800.
Obviously, that’s getting a little too cute with the parameters and it can’t be disputed that Jenkins is having a bad year. But interesting nonetheless.
Moyer vs. Marlins
Did anyone else notice that Phillies’ last three wins vs. Florida have been by Moyer. Moyer 3-0, Phillies 0-4 vs. Florida since June 1st. I doubt that happens often.

Obviously, because blaming Ruiz for any LOBs at this point is like blaming an alcoholic for being a drunk.
Ruiz at least had the right approach in his at-bat and worked a deep count. The at-bat was a failure but not a mental mistake. Bruntlett inexplicably went up there hacking.
Eaton
At Redding gave up 5 in the first (a GS) and 2 in the second. Geesh…............
Nice play by the pillar of salt
oops meant to say non-play…
Walrond
I’m just looking at his picture (in a Cubs uniform) – does he look anything like Arthur Rhodes on the mound?

I believe that officially counts as a break.
