Well, yeah.

Blanton looks good based on the two batters I’ve seen, so that’s something.

by dajafi on Aug 8, 2008 8:46 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I’m really happy with the way Blanton is going, but this is now 14 innings in a row that the phils have failed to score a run.

Blanton’s performance (and I realize the jinx of typing this) is essentially against a AAA team.
It benefited the Phils that the Pirates dumped Jason Bay.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 8:49 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Haha, at what point do opposing fans start referring to the Phils offense as AAA-level do you think?

by FuquaManuel on Aug 8, 2008 8:50 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What do you mean ‘start’?

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 8:51 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He has had a handful of called third strikes, and pretty good control, despite his higher pitch count

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 8:49 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Utley, Howard and Blanton 0-6.
Everybody else has been on base at least once. Bruntlett is 0-2, but he did line out to left.
In the first game against Maholm, the Phils had one hit I think, and only struck out once in the whole game. This game appears to be more of the same.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 8:51 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Utley with RISP….ugh

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 8:55 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Please prove me wrong Chase….pretty please?

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 8:56 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

_ with RISP. Same thing lately.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 8:56 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Chase continues to disappoint.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 8, 2008 8:58 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Phils 0-4 w/ RISP tonight. A hit in every inning, at least 1 LOB every inning. Maddening.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 8:58 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Terrible that I was thinking the same thing: “two guys on base, lefty on lefty, no shot he does something good.”

If you’d told me three months ago that anyone could lack faith in Chase, no way I would have believed it.

Now we have right-wing nutjob Jim Bunning in the booth. If Slim gets lit up this inning, that will be why.

by dajafi on Aug 8, 2008 9:00 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Jim Bunning is a jerk and a half.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 8, 2008 9:03 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

wife is watching the opening ceremonies to the olympics (which are pretty impressive I’ll admit) so I’ve got the sound turned down on the broadcast. Would’ve liked to have heard Bunning. I hear he’s a bad congressman.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:05 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

between the phils and the eagles … the olympics can wait … I’ll watch the opening ceromonies on youtube monday whilst pretending to work

You don’t have to worry about the gentleman from Kentucky f’ing up the FO in this inning

Ryan Howard showing Freddy Sanchez that he is indeed a ‘teddy bear’

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:01 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Come on you jerkholes, get some offense for the man!

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:05 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that was a painful at-bat to watch.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:06 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Blanton

ESPN Scoreboard has Blanton as one of its top three performers – for 6 IP, 1H, 0 Runs – and he’s not winning!

by phillyinportland on Aug 8, 2008 9:06 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

At least the Phillies have a bullpen and the Pirates don’t after Capps.

by christonabike on Aug 8, 2008 9:08 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

First time through the lineup against Maholm:
8 AB, 2H, 1K (Blanton), 1 BB
Second time:
9 AB, 2H, 3K, 0 BB
Third time (so far):
5 AB, 1 H, 4K, 1 BB

SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW IT GETS HARDER TO HIT A PITCHER THE MORE TIMES YOU SEE HIM!

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:09 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Cy Maholm is just eating them up….just like last time. You swear these guys don’t ever watch film of these pitchers.

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:09 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That was quite possibly the worst inning out of many very bad innings that the Phils have had all season.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 8, 2008 9:10 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

could have been worse….could’ve started with a leadoff triple.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:11 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Here comes the manufactured run in the Phils 1-0 loss

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It’ll be 2-0. Somebody goes yard this inning for the Pirates, and that’s it.

by dajafi on Aug 8, 2008 9:13 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Too close for comfort there

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:17 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Juan Samuel

If he was in the lineup tonight he might have swung and missed at a few curveballs, but he’d probably have scored by now as well.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Blanton pissed after that walk to McLouth.

Seriously, at this point we’ve got some big bruisers on that pitching staff. Blanton, Myers and maybe Hamels should just start beating the crap out of the regulars.

by dajafi on Aug 8, 2008 9:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hamels track to the majors was already delayed by breaking an appendage in a bar fight. I’d prefer he didn’t resort to fisticuffs.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:15 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

if i was cole, i would take a shit in j-roll’s gucci shoes.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 8, 2008 9:15 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And waste a perfectly good shit?

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:16 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

haha, touche sir, yet again. you are on a roll tonight.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 8, 2008 9:18 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

for a second I thought the 2 run HR prognostication was correct. Whew.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:17 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

97 pitches for Maholm. This has got to be his last inning. Unfortunately, he’s facing a slumping Coste, worthless Bruntlett, and then either Blanton or So Taguchi as the useless PH with 0 on and 2 out.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:19 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Watching Coste has been absolutely painful in the past few weeks.

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:22 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ok, months, but especially the past few weeks

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:25 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

on the other hand, the whole offense has really been absolutely painful the last few months.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 8, 2008 9:26 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, but at least I have hope, no matter how useless, when the top of the order comes up….spots 6-9, I just want to put a .45 in my mouth and pull the trigger

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:29 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Kind of like when he first came up. I honestly thought there was no way he would ever hit major-league pitching when he started out something like 0-for-10.

by phillyinportland on Aug 8, 2008 9:24 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He may have been 0-10, but I don’t think he had any Ks so I was impressed.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:29 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I’d cut either Taguchi or Walrond and bring up Jaramillo right now. No way he could be any freaking worse than Coste or Ruiz.

by dajafi on Aug 8, 2008 9:25 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Jaramillo is hitting .260/.324/.377 in AAA. I’d say there’s a pretty significant chance he’s worse than Coste and a decent chance he’s worse than Ruiz.

by christonabike on Aug 8, 2008 9:29 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So ain’t even so-so. He has been a wasted roster spot all year…but wait we got Eyre for the stretch run. What a joke. I guess with the 30 or so sell outs at the Bank the cheap ass owners are busy counting their pennies instead of getting a quality PH and cutting “Must Go So” loose.

by Steve-O- on Aug 8, 2008 9:33 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Tip O' The Hat To Blanton

Shame to see him have such a good line and will get a ND. Guess he knows how Cole feels. Jesus this is painful.

by Steve-O- on Aug 8, 2008 9:29 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Again, way too close for comfort

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:32 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Warning Track Shot #2 for the Pirates tonight.
Phils last ball out of the infield:
Ryan Howard flies out to left to start the fourth inning.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:32 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Just tuned in. Seriously, WTF is going on?

Since the all-star break, this team’s greatest strength has been its starting pitching. The bullpen has been so-so, and everything’s being ruined by our terrible offense. When did we enter the bizarro universe?

by taco pal on Aug 8, 2008 9:33 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Pirates have 1 hit tonight. That’s good, right?

by christonabike on Aug 8, 2008 9:34 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by FuquaManuel on Aug 8, 2008 9:39 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Just wanted to pick you up a little tonight

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:40 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

with the offense so atrocious it’s hard not to be negative.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:40 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If I were NYM or FLA, I would call up every LHP I could get my hands on and throw them at the phils.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:43 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Utley and Howard

0-8

0-4 w/ RISP

4 K.

That’s why this team can’t score.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:45 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This is embarrassing. No discipline, indecisive at the plate.

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:45 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It’s amazing to think about how good Ryan Howard is with his mediocre-to-terrible pitch recognition.

by christonabike on Aug 8, 2008 9:46 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Harry… goddammit.

by dajafi on Aug 8, 2008 9:50 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Harry went into his homerun call….ugh

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:51 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Harry made that so much more disappointing.

by christonabike on Aug 8, 2008 9:51 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Looks like he gave it a ride…say why’d they move the fence out?

by Steve-O- on Aug 8, 2008 9:51 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I wasn't so sure

Hell – poor Harry. He tried to will the Phils a run. He’s gotta be bored outta his gourd watching this catastrophe.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:52 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No homers, no runs.

by FuquaManuel on Aug 8, 2008 9:53 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Too bad the homers in the booth don’t count

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:54 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As terrible as that is… at least they’re getting on base. RISP is basically chance, so they’ve gotta improve at some point.

...right?

by christonabike on Aug 8, 2008 9:55 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They better improve starting tonight, this certaintly isn’t a play off caliber team we have been seeing.

by Steve-O- on Aug 8, 2008 9:57 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wendlestedt’s strike zone has been quite inconsistent tonight. He’s not biased towards a team, but it’s not very good. If I was a pitcher I’d be ticked off.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:54 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Zero after zero after zero tends to ease that pain a little.

by dajafi on Aug 8, 2008 9:58 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

fair enough. It’s not like everybody’s walking or getting squeezed. Just inconsistent.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:59 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I did see a bit of that, earlier.

by dajafi on Aug 8, 2008 10:04 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Did the phils double switch?

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 9:58 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 9:58 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I thought I saw Manuel with the scorecard at the mound, and the web box scores are pretty bad about catching that. MLBTV didn’t make any mention either so figured I’d ask….

by dajafi on Aug 8, 2008 10:14 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I’m pretty sure Madson is unavailable after pitching 3 straight, so that only leaves Walrond, Condrey, and Eyre. Given the batters the Pirates have coming up I think it makes sense.

by christonabike on Aug 8, 2008 10:42 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Doumit

Hmm ….Phillies could use a switch-hitting catcher hitting .333.

by phillyinportland on Aug 8, 2008 10:47 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

phils could use a switch hitting catcher batting .240

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 10:48 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I was about to amend it to .233.

by phillyinportland on Aug 8, 2008 10:49 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I guess that’s not techincally a “caught stealing” but that’s what i’m calling it.

I’ll forgive Jenkins for perpetual suckitude if he puts….....nevermind. Didn’t even get to finish typing before he swung at pitch 1.

At this point any west coast games will get done before this one.

I just moved back to Philly so I’m no longer using it. I figure if you’re sadistic enough to be watching this game at this point, you deserve it. All you have to do is promise me that you’ll actually use it. Email kauffj@gmail.com.

It turns out that when you put in a minor league pitcher even minor league hitters score runs.

I’m turning this off. Just don’t see it ending well.

Lovely lovely thing this is.

Happy Pete mighta got that one. I’m so glad we batted Bruntlett instead of Dobbs tonight.

The Great Unwashed is coming in to ‘relieve’ Walrond.

Thes kinda games make me think about getting ready for fantasy football…but I know I will be back tomorrow for the continuing torture. God I’ma sick sick bastard.

You and me both….I need a reason to go see the doctor, and the ulcer the Phillies have given me will only get bigger

Wasting Greg Dobbs

Start Eric Bruntlett, never PH Dobbs, then put him in in an extra inning game, after you’ve given the other team the lead, and in the lineup where he’s due to bat 6th in the next inning.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 11:05 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Don’t be too hard on Bruntlett, he’s hitting .125 in August.. That might be the team high.

So now the Pirates have outhit the Phils.

Ruiz should have taken Fuqua’s advice.

Swing at shit, above .200 you’ll never hit

Hansen has been wild throughout the minors and majors. I’m staying optimistic.

by christonabike on Aug 8, 2008 11:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

it’s very irritating to keep score for 12 innings in a loss.

Time for the Utley two-step

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 11:16 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

at least I’ve got hope that I might get to go to inning 13. Utley and Howard can’t go 0-10 can they?

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 11:17 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

turns out they can’t

by christonabike on Aug 8, 2008 11:21 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

bad plate discipline by Utley. Swing at the first two pitches from a guy who’s walked the last two.

by Bilzo on Aug 8, 2008 11:18 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Pressing horribly right now

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 11:19 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I’d throw Utley one in the dirt right about now. i’d trade a whiff for howard up with guys on 2nd and 3rd if I were the pirates.

What a fitting way to end the game.

Wheels didn’t seem too upset by Victorino’s blunder

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 11:22 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That was exhibit A as to why the Phillies aren’t going anywhere. Bad offense, bad management, piss-poor bullpen decisions, head in the ass baserunning.

Did I miss anything?

by Cluttered_JML on Aug 8, 2008 11:24 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

23 scoreless innings in a row

Larry Anderson just put it perfectly: “It’s not like Sandy Koufax is out there.” Still in first by a game – amazing. I’m going to stop paying attention to this team for a while.
