The Return of Cy Redding: Phillies at Nationals, 9/1/08
Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals, Sep 1, 2008 3:05 PM EDT
So the Nationals have won six games in a row. Really! They beat the Dodgers and Braves three times each.
And the Phillies come into town and face their inexplicable tormentor, Tim Redding, who flummoxed the Phils over six innings on August 21, allowing just a single run and getting a no-decision in a 4-3 Nationals victory.
The Phillies counter with Kyle Kendrick, who has been erratic at best over the past month or so.
It's cliche beyond belief, but these are games that playoff teams need to win. The greater the margin you can build up against the league's also-rans, the better off you'll be.

Ryan Howard chases a high fastball in a full count on what surely would have been ball 4 with runners on 2nd and 3rd. To me, that has been one of the things that has defined his season this year: the inability or unwillingness to take ball 4.
@ the game today.
Kendrick looks awful and cannot seem to pitch with 2 strikes at all. Zimmerman just hit that homerun a mile. I think Happ needs to become the 2008 Marty Bystrom
@ the game
You picked a bad one, unfortunately.

can someone tell me why taguchi would ph there?
Oh, and the Mets just pounded Gagne for three in 8th. The Phils really need to bench him an juggle the rotation so Hammels starts Sunday at Shea.
Just got back...
It was a pretty bad sight in person, probably just as bad on TV (esp. if you had to listen to Carpenter/Sutton)…stadium was half empty even though the ‘paid’ attendance was about 28-29k.
I thought Charlie could have put someone better up than Ruiz with the bases full in the 6th.
Although I love the song, Nats Park really turns me off to ‘Sweet Caroline’.
