The Gong Show Presents Jamie, Parr: Phillies at Braves, 9/16/08
Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves, Sep 16, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
The Phillies start the final act to their 2008 season by entering Atlanta to take on a Braves team that is probably still unaccustomed to playing the role of late season spoiler. Despite the best laid plans and pre-season predictions, here sit the Braves with another losing season and little to do but hope for good health next season.
Jamie Moyer goes on normal rest for the Phillies tonight against 22 year old rookie righthander James Parr, not to be confused with Jamie Farr. Hopefully he won't gong our playoff hopes, like all these rookie pitchers always seem to.
The Phillies can move into first place in the NL East with a win and a Mets loss, or the Wild Card lead with a win and a Brewers loss. The permutations get pretty complicated, but for all intents and purposes playoff berths will go to the best two teams out of the Phils, Mets, and Brewers. Just win, baby.

Rollins
He’s scored one with the bat….but his miscue in the field cost 2 runs.
If this were hockey, he’d be a -1.
Ruiz
would you actually believe I picked Ruiz up as a backup catcher in my fantasy league. What’s better? I started him tonight over Chris Iannetta!!!
Parr has thrown 87 pitches through four, so we’re probably looking at a lot of Atlanta bullpen this evening.
that’s likely a good thing.
Moyer is at 54 through 3, so I’d say the Braves are going to see a lot of phils bullpen as well.
The Marlins leading the Astros by 5-0 in the 7th is nice, too. Especially when it was a game started by Mr. September, Roy Oswalt. I almost feel sorry for what’s happened to Houston – then I remember what they did in 2004 and 2005 and the feeling passes.

I’m not sure how that looked on TV, but on GameCast that looked like an ugly inning. Hope we don’t see many more like that this year.

I think Burrell has swung-and-missed his way into a spectating position for tomorrows game.

Could have used Matt Stairs there – but I doubt Charlie would do that mid-game.

Glad I didn’t put on the end of the Mets game; also, that they lost.
Stairs nearly cleared the bases with that just-foul on 1-1. But I guess we can’t complain of our luck overall in that inning.

Hey thanks Phills for helping us get rid of Yost, good luck in the post season. Maybe we will be there one day
We felt your pain. I knew that nonsense with Shouse in the 8th was going to get him fired—just figured it would take two more weeks.
Nice inning by Madson. This is the kind of game that teams that make the playoffs should find a way to win against an inferior opponent, especially when you get a few breaks along the way.

9-1-2 due for the Braves in the 8th, and Madson threw just 10 pitches in the 7th. So presumably he’s going back, and if you run into a problem it’s Romero.
Meanwhile, platinum sombrero for Burrell…
I prefer Olympic Rings.
Howard’s BA is now .001 below Burrell. Who would have thought?

What happened? My GameCast is stuck on 1-1 count to Jayson Werth.

Bruntlett in at LF. I still hate this move when we’ve got Greg Golson, a superior defensive OF, getting rectal splinters.
Madson still in for now.
Thanks for the update – GameCast came back and I saw about 12 pitches in quick succession – nice hitting on the 3-2 pitch by Howard.

I don’t feel secure about this at all yet.
Jones – McCann – Infante
This is the lineup that nuked Lidge a couple months ago in the nonsave situation.
