I'm really crappy at the prediction thing, or I'm a reverse jinx, so let me just say that there's NO WAY IN HELL THE PHILLIES WILL WIN THIS GAME.

That said, it's lefty-on-lefty tonight, as Mike Hampton goes for the Braves in an effort to earn a new contract so that his children may go to the best public schools available in Colorado, and Cole Hamels stretches his already very long season for the Phils.  Hamels has shown signs of fatigue, while Hampton has been pretty sharp lately, including last weekend versus the Mets (thanks for that, Mikey).

Good news: we can’t lose our playoff spot tonight, the Brewers lost a backbreaker earlier today.

Bad news: Cole Hamels is pitching, so we probably won’t score many runs.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 18, 2008 7:16 PM EDT reply actions

Well, two in the first ain’t bad.

Cole doesn’t look good in this first inning.

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 7:30 PM EDT reply actions

God damnit Cole. Have all these innings worn him out?

by FuquaManuel on Sep 18, 2008 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

And there goes the lead. Ugh. I am not feeling too good about Cole’s capacity to pitch well enough to win tonight.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 18, 2008 7:42 PM EDT reply actions

He doesn’t seem to have it right now. Maybe he’ll find it…

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 7:43 PM EDT reply actions

Useless piece of garbage Redding has fallen behind the Mets, 4-0.

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 7:54 PM EDT reply actions

Infante bails out Hamels in the 3rd, stranding two.

This is going to be a very tough haul for Cole tonight.

Is anyone watching the Phils broadcast? I understand Dubee said something about Hamels not being 100 percent…

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

HELLO PAT THE BAT!!
He killed that pitch

by Erufus2 on Sep 18, 2008 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

And then the Flyin’ Hawaiian is on second. Bring it on Phils

by Erufus2 on Sep 18, 2008 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

My main reaction to that Burrell bomb: relief.

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 8:45 PM EDT reply actions

Dammit—Ruiz hit that hard, but location’s everything, and it was a double play rather than a run-scoring hit.

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 8:49 PM EDT reply actions

Hamels finishes six, allowing just the two runs.

Ace-like performance on a night when his command was really not great.

I was just going to lambast the decision to put Madson in here, but damn he looks good.
Save a freak play there where he forgot to cover first. That’s not an error. Nobody would have been at first.

by Bilzo on Sep 18, 2008 9:09 PM EDT reply actions

Eight pitches, eight strikes, and then a little mess.

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Big mess. Bloody f-cking hell.

Rollins drops the ball out of his glove. Run scores, men at first and third.

can’t help but think what would have happened had bruntlett been in for pat

by char6587 on Sep 18, 2008 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought it should have been Pat’s ball…he was standing around while Jimmy ran by him and muffed the catch

by Cluttered_JML on Sep 18, 2008 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

not pat’s fault though if jimmy calls him off

by char6587 on Sep 18, 2008 9:16 PM EDT reply actions

come on pat.. redeem yourself

by char6587 on Sep 18, 2008 9:21 PM EDT reply actions

weak strike call by the ump. don’t think he went there.

by Bilzo on Sep 18, 2008 9:23 PM EDT reply actions

I bellowed, “Aw, bullshit!” at that one.

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s like Feliz was mortally determined to eff that one up: 2-0 count, Julian Tavarez, and he rolls one over to third to end the inning, stranding two.

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 9:31 PM EDT reply actions

I wanted to let someone else diss Feliz first, but yeah. Not the first time I have said this, won’t be the last…Pedro Feliz has the worst approach at the plate of any player I have watched. Literally, this dude swings at the first fastball he sees, regardless of the count. What wonders it has worked for him: a sub .300 career OBP.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 18, 2008 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Another run would be superb.

by WholeCamels on Sep 18, 2008 9:41 PM EDT reply actions

Yes,

Brad Lidge+1-run lead=new underpants for FuquaManuel

by FuquaManuel on Sep 18, 2008 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Blown save tonight? I’ve got this awful feeling…

by WholeCamels on Sep 18, 2008 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Now what did you have to go and do that for?

by FuquaManuel on Sep 18, 2008 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Strikes Lidge. Goddamnit throw strikes.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 18, 2008 9:51 PM EDT reply actions

Walk Chipper and go after Corky Romano.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 18, 2008 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

Never mindsies…game, set, match…

.5 game lead in the division maintained
2 game lead in the wild card

Holler.

woop woop woop.

7 games

i can get used to this

by char6587 on Sep 18, 2008 9:54 PM EDT reply actions

It is awesome to be the only team in this NL race with a bullpen. The Brad Lidge trade continues to pay dividends

by Erufus2 on Sep 18, 2008 9:56 PM EDT reply actions

William T. Sherman ain’t got nuthin on Charlie Manuel!

by dajafi on Sep 18, 2008 9:56 PM EDT reply actions

Getting a lot of milage out of that line I see.

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?
