Jo-Jo Reyes, Your Life is Calling: Braves at Phillies, 9/24/08
Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies, Sep 24, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
The Phillies close the season series against the Atlanta Braves, hoping fervently for one last victory.
The Braves send the hilariously named Jo-Jo Reyes to the mound against Brett Myers, who hopefully won't self-immolate (Jo-Jo Dancer style) like he did last week against Florida (4 IP, 10 ER, zOMG).
The implications of this game are pretty huge. The Phillies have an off-day tomorrow so you have to think the lingering taste of defeat over that stretch could have some undesireable effects. Given the likelihood of at least one rainout this weekend for the Phillies and the Mets, a win here would increase the chance that a theoretical make-up game on Sunday or Monday would be irrelevant to the postseason seedings and could just be cancelled, allowing for a rested pitching staff. A victory here would put enormous pressure on the Mets and Brewers and would give the Phillies a pretty clear shot at the post-season if they can win one of three against Washington. Nothing is assumed, however. That's why they play the games, etc.
Go to it, fellas.

Hey a new poster here – friend of Dajafi’s and hoping, given my years of superstion as Phillies fan for (dare I admit it) over 52 years, that just commenting/venting will have a useful effect, let me say simply that this is just not the time for Myers to revert to Double A form. Some folks handle the pressure (as he did last year as a closer), others don’t (like Brett as a starter last two outings). So please limit the damage and turn it over to someone else (perhaps Madson for 2/3 plus). Nice to see Chase bring it within !, but staying in the game is more critical now – Nine hits in 3 innings and an 86 MPH fastball up just won’t do. By the way David – your friend Rus
Good points – a shut down inning here is really needed. Keeping it close is nice, but it’s time for a big inning about now.

Rus, I’ve got one eye on the game at Shea… much more faith in Big Z tonight than Myers.
Though he’s loaded the bases here in the second. So maybe that’s no good either.
Big Z
Yes Carlos is our man against the Mets – we’ll take all the help we can get. I would really like however to make it a no doubter this year and put some runs up instead of relying on others. Hey I remember Ed Bouchee exposing himself to a 12cyear old girl in the 50’s so pardon me for wanting an emphatic win tonight . Maybe I can become your cynical historian who remembers listening to West Coast games on a transistor radip when I was supposed to be in bed. OK Ryan yowser – this is just what we need. More, more, more.
no/my bad
no my fault – as we all know as Phillies fans we have a unique ability to jinx every moment by being positive. If Brett can keep it at 3 runs through 7 we will lose (see they will now do the opposite and win big)
hard to watch – Jenkins would not have gotten Werth error either. Going from Myers to Durbin is like fueling the fire. However this game is still very winnable with some offense. Hope Scott Eyre does not morph into Jane Eyre (he’s been good so far). Agree with Louiosians lurker, this site has been a godsend – yopu guys know your stuff. I love to go back and fothe between this and my MLB live feed so I don’t break things in the house
that';s it
I should have just stayed quiet – signing off until game is over. hope we have some offense in last 4
By the way, I’ve been as big of a Jayson Werth supporter as anyone, but we can’t afford to leave him in the 3-spot any longer: he’s now 3 for his last 30 with 0 walks and 10 strikeouts. Burell’s picked it up a little bit the last few games, so go ahead and flip him and Werth in the order for Friday.
Julian Tavarez is an insane person.
The funniest part of that exchange was the replay of Victorino. He said, “What?” followed by “Come on!” and then pointed to the scoreboard.
And he’s right — why freak out about a runner on third, who’s going nowhere, when you’re up by SIX RUNS? Just crazy.
First time poster phuture phils regular.
Damn, guys, Is it time to panic yet fellas? Myers arm seems smoked since he went on three days rest. Hamels is smoked. We’re relying on Moyer, and Blanton it looks like.
we suck less
So Thanks to Luis Ayala, Derek Lee and Aramis Ramirez. Still 1.5 up on both East and WC. If we can’t take two against Nats and make it academic then maybe we should not be there. Pitching matchups in playoffs either way with only Hamels and Moyer reliable are disturbing.
