Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals, Sep 3, 2008 7:10 PM EDT

Next Game

Philadelphia Phillies
@ Washington Nationals

Wednesday, Sep 3, 2008, 7:10 PM EDT
Nationals Park

Joe Blanton vs Odalis Perez

Clear. Winds blowing in from left field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 85.

Complete Coverage >

The Nationals might be pursuing a strategy of grabbing pitchers who inexplicably give the Phillies fits -- Tim Redding, tonight's starter Odalis Perez (6-3, 2.70 ERA lifetime vs. Philadelphia) -- I wonder what Tomo Ohka is up to nowadays...

Joe "Cookies / Cupcakes" Blanton goes for the Phillies, trying to pick up his second win since coming to the National League.

LINEUP WEIRD-O-RAMAS:

Bruntlett in right?  Werth in center?  What did Shane do?  Just slumping?

I've got a feeling they'll be scratching for runs tonight.  Again.

No kidding. Just got home from running some errands and saw 1 post? Wow.

by Steve-O- on Sep 3, 2008 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We really need to decide whether Blanton is “Cookies” or “Cupcakes.” A fan club christening could be at stake.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 8:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

How about frosted cookies?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 8:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Does his hair justify it?

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Personally, I like pound cake.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh i was just combining cookies and cupcakes – i didn’t even notice his california hair…i bet he gets manny/peddys too

Metrosexual is not real – it’s just repression

Joe…It is not the umpires fault.

you are not very good

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 8:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

please madson….make up for your recent suckiness.

by Bilzo on Sep 3, 2008 8:50 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

how did they only get one out and NOT at home on that?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 8:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was hit to Ryan Howard.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh, THAT’s what lastings milledge can do – take out slides.

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hard to believe the fat sack o’crap couldn’t get through five lousy innings against this lineup.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 8:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

ryan² suckiness.

Madson – I’ll forgive you on this. Your fielders let you down this inning.

by Bilzo on Sep 3, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m not sure ‘fielders’ count…utley got taken out on a very questionable slide (to me, if a guys legs are pointed directly towards center field that’s not exactly a ‘kosher’ slide)

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Is all forgiven?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I think so.

Wow. When he hits ’em, they stay hit.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Pedro Feliz MUST BE GONE – he poisons this entire team

Adrian Beltre only has one year left on his deal after this one and the mariners are run by idiots…

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

See….coste follow feliz example…BE GONE

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

WTF? 3 pitches 3 outs…is dusty baker managing the phillies?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That was baseball malpractice. Period.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 9:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m telling you – Pedro Feliz carries a disease – it prevents you from having good approaches at the plate – it only has a life span of 24 hours – but since he’s in the dug out every day he reinfects the team every day – he must be sent away…

This team is going to suck at third base for eternity aren’t they?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Karmic wrath for dissing Schmidt and trading Rolen. Kind of hard to blame the universe, really.

I do believe in the epidemiological phenomenon you describe.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I believe the only cure for this karmic wrath (and disease) involves the ritual sacrafic of dallas green?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Certainly worth a try.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even if it doesn’t work, something positive for the franchise still happens.

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

MASN broadcast gun has Madson at 96. Who knew?

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 9:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

All guns should be calibrated by an independent agent before every game or not used at all…just stupid.

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Madson

They’ve got him at 97 now. That can’t be right.

by PhoenixPhilly on Sep 3, 2008 9:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Well WTF

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That’s just friggin terrible.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 9:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Durbin has become anything but reliable lately. I guess we all expected this though.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 9:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Not saying anything…

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 9:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

fine, but say something

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We kinda NEED to win this game. I don’t have that much faith in our ability to dig out of large holes in the final month in two consecutive seasons.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 9:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

3 games is not a large hole.

Not when you get to play the mets a few times and the mets buillpen is, well, the mets bullpen…plus the mets roster isn’t exactly renowned for its ability to handle pressure.

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yes, but it is three games with one fewer to play. My point is not so much that 3 games is a huge lead but that we must be making up ground on or keeping pace with the Mets this month, not losing ground.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

my point is that it’s the third day of the month

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey look it’s time for the stupid pat burrell substitution moment.

Is this golsons first appearance since the call up? I haven’t been paying close attention

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Greg Golson in da hizzy.

And with jem’s favorite player up, he should think about running.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 9:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Greg Golson serves his purpose…he is fast

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Stole it on a pitchout. Nice.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 9:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Pedro Feliz is the awesomest player in the world.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 9:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Dobbs should take some lessons on being fast from Golson

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

My “inexplicable losses to bad teams” sense is tingling.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 9:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

hehe, yeah, as far as my “inexplicable losses to bad teams” sense is concerned, this game was over when Durbin gave up that bomb.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

However, you have been known to be prone to premature expiration

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We will lose, if we do not, you can call me tinkerbell.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 10:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There was a time when those who know me from the boards considered me the most negative phan of phialdelphia sports out there…i really think you have me beat, by hectares.

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I never thought I would see the word “hectares” used on a blog about baseball.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 10:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And by the way, I am just guarding against the inevitable let down. It becomes much easier to swallow a loss when you had a feeling they were going to lose all along.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like the word hectares, since most people don’t know it it sounds vaguely science fictiony – and i thought light years was a bit much :)

we’re so screwed the life from screwed wont’ hit us for 1,000 years.

What the hell kind of name is bernadina?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I can vouch for both parts of this statement.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I might particularly hate Chad Durbin for waiting until August to start pitching like Chad Durbin.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 10:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

As long as the rest of the pen doesn’t start pitching like who they really are…we’re good

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh shut up, just shut up…i’m trying real hard to not be a negative nelly any more

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I might particularly hate Chad Durbin for waiting until August to start pitching like Chad Durbin.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 10:10 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’d hate for JC Romero to remember he was on 5 teams last season, and why

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

FM, how’d that guarding against the letdown work out for you?

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 10:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

great actually.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 3, 2008 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Does anybody else...

…have the Nationals broadcast crew for this?

I mean, it’s bad enough watching Ronnie Belliard and Roger Bernadina beat the Phillies, but to listen to an awful broadcast crew blatantly cheer for their 53-82 team makes it positively unnerving.

by PhillyFriar on Sep 3, 2008 10:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yes, I hate the nationals crew…i think they are morons – but they are employed to be positive about the Nats and ignore the fact that they are battling for the right to draft and over pay another boras client with the padres

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ve had this on mute most of the night.

And with that last double, I think even that’s too much.

Eff this.

by dajafi on Sep 3, 2008 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

WHy does it seem to me that JC Romero throws to an awful lot of right handed hitters?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

So a right handed pitcher WAS available huH?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This may be an overgeneralization but it has seemed like the bullpen has been handled pretty well this season and that may be due to the number of quality starts the starters were giving – top three or so in the NL all year, I believe. But when you get a couple of early exits like Kendrick and Blanton have done in the last few days the bullpen starts looking like it did last year. Both Durbin and Romero have been used extensively and no one should expect them to be available every game at the level needed now. I was afraid that Manuel would try to ride Romero, Durbin and Lidge the way he did with Romero, Gordon and Myers last year. Three pitchers can’t carry a bullpen night after night.

Who knew elijah dukes could jump

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:35 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Pat will keep the game alive – pat will give ryan another chance at the plate….oh…wait…you mean it’s jayson werth who will k in less than 5 pitches?

by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I really didn’t want to say 3 pitches :(
