Just Desserts: Phillies at Nationals, 9/3/08
Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals, Sep 3, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
The Nationals might be pursuing a strategy of grabbing pitchers who inexplicably give the Phillies fits -- Tim Redding, tonight's starter Odalis Perez (6-3, 2.70 ERA lifetime vs. Philadelphia) -- I wonder what Tomo Ohka is up to nowadays...
Joe "Cookies / Cupcakes" Blanton goes for the Phillies, trying to pick up his second win since coming to the National League.
LINEUP WEIRD-O-RAMAS:
Bruntlett in right? Werth in center? What did Shane do? Just slumping?
I've got a feeling they'll be scratching for runs tonight. Again.

We really need to decide whether Blanton is “Cookies” or “Cupcakes.” A fan club christening could be at stake.
Oh i was just combining cookies and cupcakes – i didn’t even notice his california hair…i bet he gets manny/peddys too
Metrosexual is not real – it’s just repression

Oh, THAT’s what lastings milledge can do – take out slides.
by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m not sure ‘fielders’ count…utley got taken out on a very questionable slide (to me, if a guys legs are pointed directly towards center field that’s not exactly a ‘kosher’ slide)

Pedro Feliz MUST BE GONE – he poisons this entire team
Adrian Beltre only has one year left on his deal after this one and the mariners are run by idiots…

WTF? 3 pitches 3 outs…is dusty baker managing the phillies?
by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m telling you – Pedro Feliz carries a disease – it prevents you from having good approaches at the plate – it only has a life span of 24 hours – but since he’s in the dug out every day he reinfects the team every day – he must be sent away…
This team is going to suck at third base for eternity aren’t they?

Karmic wrath for dissing Schmidt and trading Rolen. Kind of hard to blame the universe, really.
I do believe in the epidemiological phenomenon you describe.
I believe the only cure for this karmic wrath (and disease) involves the ritual sacrafic of dallas green?

Even if it doesn’t work, something positive for the franchise still happens.

All guns should be calibrated by an independent agent before every game or not used at all…just stupid.

We kinda NEED to win this game. I don’t have that much faith in our ability to dig out of large holes in the final month in two consecutive seasons.
3 games is not a large hole.
Not when you get to play the mets a few times and the mets buillpen is, well, the mets bullpen…plus the mets roster isn’t exactly renowned for its ability to handle pressure.
by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions
yes, but it is three games with one fewer to play. My point is not so much that 3 games is a huge lead but that we must be making up ground on or keeping pace with the Mets this month, not losing ground.
my point is that it’s the third day of the month

Hey look it’s time for the stupid pat burrell substitution moment.
Is this golsons first appearance since the call up? I haven’t been paying close attention

Dobbs should take some lessons on being fast from Golson

hehe, yeah, as far as my “inexplicable losses to bad teams” sense is concerned, this game was over when Durbin gave up that bomb.
However, you have been known to be prone to premature expiration

There was a time when those who know me from the boards considered me the most negative phan of phialdelphia sports out there…i really think you have me beat, by hectares.

I like the word hectares, since most people don’t know it it sounds vaguely science fictiony – and i thought light years was a bit much :)
we’re so screwed the life from screwed wont’ hit us for 1,000 years.
What the hell kind of name is bernadina?

As long as the rest of the pen doesn’t start pitching like who they really are…we’re good

Oh shut up, just shut up…i’m trying real hard to not be a negative nelly any more

I’d hate for JC Romero to remember he was on 5 teams last season, and why
by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Does anybody else...
…have the Nationals broadcast crew for this?
I mean, it’s bad enough watching Ronnie Belliard and Roger Bernadina beat the Phillies, but to listen to an awful broadcast crew blatantly cheer for their 53-82 team makes it positively unnerving.
Yes, I hate the nationals crew…i think they are morons – but they are employed to be positive about the Nats and ignore the fact that they are battling for the right to draft and over pay another boras client with the padres
by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:18 PM EDT up reply actions
WHy does it seem to me that JC Romero throws to an awful lot of right handed hitters?
by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:20 PM EDT reply actions
So a right handed pitcher WAS available huH?
by jemagee on Sep 3, 2008 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions
This may be an overgeneralization but it has seemed like the bullpen has been handled pretty well this season and that may be due to the number of quality starts the starters were giving – top three or so in the NL all year, I believe. But when you get a couple of early exits like Kendrick and Blanton have done in the last few days the bullpen starts looking like it did last year. Both Durbin and Romero have been used extensively and no one should expect them to be available every game at the level needed now. I was afraid that Manuel would try to ride Romero, Durbin and Lidge the way he did with Romero, Gordon and Myers last year. Three pitchers can’t carry a bullpen night after night.
