Make or Break
Well after last night's turd-thrashing, I've pretty much come to the simple fact that these next three games are going to pretty much decide what happens the rest of the season. We come into a three game series at Shea three back of the Mets. Three possible outcomes really.
1) The Mets sweep us or take 2 of 3. If we get swept, it's pretty much time to pack it in and the Eagles chants will be out at OFJAB. Take that Jimmy!! If we loose 2 of 3, I still think we're in a really bad place; 4 back, no more head to head with the Mets. Also, the major difference between our two schedules will be the timing of our series with the Brewers vs. the Mets/Cubs series. We get 4 with the Brewcrew at the end of next week, while the Mets get 4 with the Cubs during the last week. By that time, we'd probably need Chicago to lay a whoopin on the Mets, but they should be all wrapped up and playing the 22 year olds. Also, dropping games to the Mets at this point gives them alot of confidence and momentum.
2) We take 2 of 3. We make up a game and get back to 2 back. That may help a bit with momentum, but other than that, we're still counting on teams to do our dirty work for us... Don't like that idea.
3) We sweep the Mets. Obviously, the best possible outcome. The Mets come into the series pretty hot and three games up; we come in after a huge let down last night and dropping 2 of 3 to the AAAA Nationals. We leave flushing on a three game win streak and even in the standings. Obviously getting even in the standings would be fantastic, but moreso the comparisons to last September will be drawn again. We sweep the Mets to get back in it. We have the momentum and the Mets aren't feeling too good about themselves. Also, given their bullpen, I'd feel alot more comfortable having to finish the last few weeks one game better than them rather than to have to try to make games up.
I think one thing that could help alot is if the Brewers can somehow get to a game or two of the Cubs by the final week of the season, which will force Chicago to take their series with the Mets seriously.
Well we send Myers, Moyer and Hamels against Pelfrey, Martinez and Santana... At this point, those are our three best pitchers so that's helpful... If it's got to come down to this series, at least we have them going. I hope this team realizes that the Mets series is basically a playoff series and doesn't roll over and die tomorrow like they did against the Rockies last October...
Thoughts?

I go back and forth between helpless rage at the Brewers for sucking so hard this week, and frustration at the Phillies for failing to take care of business these last three months to the point that they didn’t need any outside help.
My gut is that they take two of three (or maybe two of two—weather here really doesn’t look good for getting that game in on Saturday). Which basically means that the series against Milwaukee becomes another must-win.
I hate to say this, but the Mets this year remind me a lot of the 2007 Phillies. We took so many devastating, painful losses last year of the come-from-ahead, bullpen-meltdown variety… just like the Mets the last few months. And we almost always won the next game or two afterward… as the Mets have done since Jerry Manuel took over. I have a lot of trouble seeing them go into a protracted tailspin because that team just seems to have a resilience (or maybe it’s forgetfulness) now that they lacked in 2007.

I think that we still may have a chance!
For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?
