Right-handed bat off bench?

IF he can be had cheaply, it might not be the worst move in the world. He can play multiple positions (albeit poorly in many cases) and can still hit lefties. Will he really come cheap?

Remember when we debated "Who's Better? Jeter, A-Rod, or Nomar?"

It’s times like this I wish I had a time machine so I could send 2008 Nomar back to 1999 to switch places with 1999 Nomar. Then the loss of Pat the Bat wouldn’t sting as much.

Of course, if Nomar switched places with himself we would be confronted with a question: if 2008 Nomar was playing in 1999, then that would fundamentally alter the course of Nomar’s career (and the history of baseball for that matter) and there would be no 2008 Nomar for us to sign. A paradox if I have ever seen one. Oh the mysteries of time travel.

I like the move, if we get him at the right price. But Reuben hasn’t given us any reason to believe he won’t grossly overpay.

i would love this move

i agree Nomars best years are behind him, but i think he would be a great bench player who could come in and play when called apon

But the tendency i see with Rueben is that he has been signing mostly “has-beens” this offseason, first Raul Ibanez, than Chan Ho Park, then Marcus Giles, now Nomar??? is he just signing names he recognizes or guys he really thinks can still play

To me the Eagles are like that girlfriend that pisses u off, then u hate her, but the next morning you wake up and remember that thing u love so much about her

The more I think about this, the more I hate it. The Phillies are likely to pay a premium to Garciaparra in the hopes that he’ll recapture his form of 5+ years ago; meanwhile, they’re highly likely to receive performance at a level that could be provided by a minimally salaried journeyman utility guy, on almost certainly a one-year deal.
