I guess Shane is the guy you go year-to-year with, considering that he's still a ways off from free agency and the Phillies have some outfield prospects on the way. He also might not be a guy who ages well, given his small stature and fairly reckless approach, though at 28 this isn't a concern yet. The main significance here is simply that avoiding arbitration with him this early in the process frees up that much more time and attention to the tougher cases of Blanton, Werth, and of course Howard.
