Phillies Breakfast Links, October 12 2009: Abbreviated Do-It-Yourself Edition

Due to getting 2 1/2 hours of sleep last night, I bring you... a few links.  But let's not let that spoil our fun!

If you read something good about the Phillies, add a comment and post your link!  This'll be awesome.

Redemption...thy name is Lidge

Here’s a link for a good Stark article on Lidge’s performance last night (err… should I say today)

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2009/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=4552842

One of the more interesting tidbits is a purported exchange between J-Roll and Lidge before he threw his first pitch:

So as he stood on the mound, waiting for the signal that the TV commercial break was over and it was time to pitch, Jimmy Rollins looked him right in the eyeballs and said, “You’re going to get them out.”

“Yeah,” Lidge replied.

“What’s that mean?” Rollins retorted.

And for a moment, Lidge seemed startled by the challenge. Then he looked Rollins back in his own eyeballs and told him: “You’re right. We’re going to get this done right here, right now.”

He should have said, "I am going to ROLLINIZE THEM! 1 strikeout, and 2 pop outs!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?

TBS

Their announcers are horrible. They hose the Phils with start times. MLB starts games too late….The Steve Harvey Show….

This is all their own damn fault. I’m glad there were 3 sweeps and I hope the last series only lasts 4 games.

Is Brett Myers not available?

I;‘;m not sure why they didn’t adjust the yankees/twins phils/rockies ‘back’ a time slot once the dodgers swept the cardinals…

I was mostly unconscious so only was awake parts of the game – god damn flu

I heard this morning that MLB put out a statement (although I can’t find it online) stating that they decided not to push our game back in the slot because they felt there was insufficient notice for fans and the fact that this could interfere with fans attending the Broncos-Pats game who also had tickets for the game.

woo karma. if anybody deserves the flu…its you :P

(i’m a poet…and I didn’t even know it)

Update

MLB announced that they are moving today’s game time to 1:43 PM so as to not interfere with the Yankees radio show which starts at 5 PM, and also to be certain that the game is concluded prior to the start of MNF, because they don’t want to compete with that for viewers.

They feel the 1:43 time PM slot has the potential to get the most viewership as they will only be competing with soap operas which are normally watched by non-sports interested women. They are a little concerned about a COPS marathon on FX sucking viewers away though.

Haha

I’m furious too. MLB has almost ruined this series for the Phaithful with this ridiculous scheduling. But seriously, what can you do but gripe? A class action lawsuit for intentional infliction of emotional distress?

Or you could get some perspective

why don’t you just lay back down, you’re sick you know…

by Bilzo on Oct 12, 2009 10:33 AM EDT up reply actions

yes … perspective… free markets, ratings, and the all-knowing network suits. It doesn’t make it right, and I still don’t have to like it.

by Boundforbeach on Oct 12, 2009 10:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Didn’t say you had to like it, just suggested some perspective, but first you’d have to know what that meant.

As for the ‘pathetic pebble people’ – the east coast gets the phillies after work today but for rockies fans to go to the game they would have to alter work and school schedules…

Everyones bitching about various scheduling against the phillies but todays scheduling makes it easier for the phillies fans in PA to watch – yet no one seems to want to comment about that.

Does a single day go by on these threads when you don’t try to insult someone on this blog?

You mean like ‘pathetic pebble people’?

So now you’re calling me out for poking a little fun at Rockies fans in jest? Not quite the same as suggesting I’m too stupid to understand the meaning of the word perspective.

by Boundforbeach on Oct 12, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh – I get it – when you do it it’s ‘poking fun’…got it – double standards…you’ve been ranting and raving for a while now…

And you still haven’t acknowledge that todays start time is fine for the phillies fans but screws Rockies fans quite a bit – wouldn’t fit in your world view that MLB is out to get the phillies right?

The scheduling of this series has been unfair to the Rockies as well. But they did at least get an 8pm prime time game last night.

by Boundforbeach on Oct 12, 2009 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions

my distaste

for your argument approach is that you don’t state your point.

You act like the other person is stupid for not seeing your side of it, but then you won’t present your side until prodded or made fun of…

exhibit A “Or you could get some perspective”

I think we have perspective. Obsviously different than yours. If you can find a way to state your approach without trying to precede it by painting the opposing view as moronic I would give more credence to your opinions, but as it is, I have a hard time taking anything you say seriously, because i honestly think you just like to portray people who disagree with you as stupid.

And….I think you ‘like to argue’.

Actually, that was my point.

But you haven’t actually stated what you mean by it.

by phatj on Oct 12, 2009 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions

the correct approach

would be to let the site of the game dictate the starting time, and that hasn’t been done.

Compromise is fine.

A 2 PM start in Philly doesn’t help anybody.

by Bilzo on Oct 12, 2009 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions

And to you pathetic pebble people...

Get a fucking atmosphere. Or a stadium with a roof.

Speaking of times

If (I’m only saying if) the Phillies win, do you think they’ll go directly to LA? Seems like that would make more sense than going back to Philadelphia. Make this a two-town road trip.

WHen does the NLCS start? If Thursday, go home, see your family, and fly out again, not really that much jet lag
