NLDS Game Four Discussion Thread, Phillies at Rockies, October 12, 2009
Philadelphia Phillies at Colorado Rockies, Oct 11, 2009 10:07 PM EDT
One more game to go!
The Phillies look to Game One victor Cliff Lee to close out the series against the Rockies, who counter with their own ace, Ubaldo Jimenez. Game temperature will be somewhere above "can't feel my fingers," which is good stuff.
A Phillies victory would catapult them to an NLCS rematch with the Los Angeles Dodgers, starting in California on Thursday. A loss would send this series back to Philadelphia for a decisive Game Five.
Discuss the game below.

came home to TBS bald dudes wailing about umps. On talk radio this a.m. I believe Angelo Cataldi on WIP brought up point that Utley once was ruled out on a play that he had stopped running on when it hit him.

Let’s go Phillies.
There were two times before when the Phillies clinched a best-of-five series on the road: 1980 in Houston and 2008 in Milwaukee. We all know how those years ended.

I saw him at bat on MLB TV today from a 2003 game vs. the Marlins. At least he was out there trying to beat those damn Marlins. I hadn’t realized he was on the Giants roster for the 2002 postseason (went 0-5 in the Series) but his division series stats were okay from 2003. Postseason LDS in four years his average going into today’s game is .296. LCS average: .143. And World Series average: .261. Overall postseason to date: .250. No home runs and including last night’s walk he has walked three times in 25 postseason games.

Colorado had a magical run in 2007 before getting swept in the World Series by the Red Sox, but they swept the Phillies on the way?
I wasn’t sure about that, but after the 18th time the announcers have said that tonight…

With the way Ibanez has been seeing the ball, that was a ballsy call. Borderline stupid, but it worked out, so it gets the tag “ballsy.”

Are you sure you know what racist means?
I would probably have to insult a specific race to be a racist. I’m more basing my (although it is really just how Dodgers are known down here) “criminal” claim based on the 30 man fight that broke out this year, not to mention that you can’t buy beer in the outfield anymore due to the ridiculous fights that constantly break out.
However, way to read between the lines and look for racism.

Meanwhile, does Werth look a bit pissed off to anyone else?
After he got back in he dugout, he was kind of staring a hole through whoever was in front of him.
Utley got the same stare after Werth almost ran him over in the outfield, and he’s been looking rather upset at himself after his previous at bats.
I think Werth should be made angry some more. Colorado wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. Though I did see him crack a bit of a smile a couple minutes after the home run.

Well, I think teams are pretty interested in selling their brand when they get national exposure. It can lead to a lot of revenue even if you just pick up a couple thousand causal fans over a series. Having biased announcers for the other team will prevent, for instance, that person in Idaho who is watching because nothing else on TV is on and may start rooting for the Rockies just because.

I’ll take that strike zone for Cliff and feel pretty confident about a complete game 1-run gem from our ace.

actually, ramen noodles without the seasoning is not such a bad way to go either. You can mix in some curry powder or a few other spices, or sauce and it is pretty cheap with a quite a bit less sodium, not to mention MSG and other things
